Technical stuff:

While this pic follows the standard pin-up idea and as such is nothing mind-blowing, I'm rather proud how well I managed to turn my idea into image for once. When I was doing the pose / composition sketches I thought that I could maybe try to do a diagonal pose with strong light so the upper part would be illuminated and the lower part of the diagonal would be in shadow. The effect could probably be stronger but overall I'm rather pleased with it since this is the first time when I've consciously put in a 'trick' like this into my art.

Cock

So, apparently I succeed almost every time when I stop trying and just go with the flow... Before this I've never ever been able to produce decent inked lineart. For some reason this time it worked. In the sense that at least I don't completely hate it which is the normal case. Fancy that!

Buck & Belial

Face-wise it turned out to be one of my better pieces in a while I think. Maybe luck is shifting for the better again :P There are errors in this too since I kinda just blurted it out to the paper instead of carefully examining it. I think the foreshortenings are wrong.

As porn, I dunno how good it is since it doesn't shove the dick directly to your face. At least my attention is drawn to the faces a lot more. And to the fact that Buck is being mighty shy and the poor thing doesn't even know where to look even when the situation is escalating quite rapidly :3 But I'm sure he'll be fine, Beliel knows what he's doing.

I have had the sketch of this on my drawing board for so long so I finally decided to 'finish' it. And yes. Gay sex is always better in sepiaish.

Copycat

Something I doodled out of sheer curiosity. I tried to imitate one of my favorite artists a bit so hence the title.

I'm all out of titles

Meddling with mah new coloring method. It could still be faster but hey it's still an improvement. I dunno if the paper texture is going to stay ( or at least this specific paper texture ) but I felt that the coloring needed a bit of texture. Maybe when I create good enough brushes and overall work with the method more I'll be able to pull those fancy painterly textures from my ass so I don't need no paper textures no more. We'll see.

But. It's still no artistic picture of they year but considering that I didn't have to use stretch contrast or curvetool at all, and it didn't take an eternity to color, I'd say I'm pretty pleased.

And you know, I probably should write my 'workflow' down somewhere since every time I get back to this I have to re-invent half of the stuff :E

Mr & Mrs Butt

Perspective was being a bitch so I couldn't nail the sketch properly even after a lot of mucking and I got bored of trying. But because I still liked this one, it turned into airbrushing & technique exercise & generic goofing around with stuff. Those butts are pretty nice though and I like how with this airbrushing technique I can avoid the jaggedness of gradients. Meaning: mmm smooth butts. Even if they are a bit too ghetto bootay for my tastes. Meaning: fat.

A simple pic for testing out flat shading and texture brushes. It's a bit too toony ( and kinda sketchy too, lol sausagefingers ) for my tastes, even tho there are parts that I still enjoy about it. But the overall effect is too plain. There's a lot of people who can make flat shading look good, but apparently I'm not one of them x(

Maybe I'll try flat shading with textured brushes soon.

Face of god ( first try )

I've never studied arts properly and hence I've never drawn human/animal faces from life either. Which is why my faces are always something like this picture.

But I'm starting to get more and more interested in doing just facial pictures and studying faces because... well, it's interesting. And challenging too, of course. And some faces are super hot too :)

So yeah. Here's the first try. Kinda like a reference picture for myself. With this one I can start studying what makes faces look good and what makes them look bad and what makes the uncanny valley.

Body of god

That's the head that I painted over in the 'face of god' submission of mine. I quite liked it so I thought that I'd do the rest of the body too and maybe try to paint over that too.

But honestly speaking, I dunno what kind of body Josh is supposed to have, other than being fit. The weightlifter -frame has it's appeal, as has this more like triathlonist -look. I actually originally made him considerably buffer and ripped in this pic but I couldn't stop thinking 'guten tag, ich bin Günther' when looking at it. He looked like a steroid case porn star. So I toned it down, made the six-pack more subdued and gave him thinner arms. But this looks maybe too generic :/ Choosing the absolute best body shape is surprisingly hard it seems.

Ink

I used to struggle with inks. Now I don't. As a result, I can make doodles that look way more finished than my pencil sketches. Faster too. I can use strong colors to accentuate my sketches. With my pencils that was impossible. Erasing is faster and more precise and it doesn't leave digital smudges anymore. I can play with light and shadow better and faster now. It should help me understand form and light better since it isn't such a chore anymore to try things. And since I now have the 'missing link', ( so I'm able to produce inks without hating myself ) I can also start studying Franquin's / Tabary's / Debarre's / Deteindre's inks and hopefully be able to learn stuff from there too.

Another pic with toony flat shading. It's fast to do and it gives the pic depth so it's easier to understand even with a fast glance but it's also awfully boring. It'd probably be more interesting with stronger colors, but I'm not sure how I could use dramatic colors in such non-dramatic scene. And I can't do dramatic colors anyway!

Oh, and I'm pretty happy about the proportions in this one, even tho it was an 'easy' pic. Whee.

One of my better pieces methinks.

I've always wanted to try to paint without a lineart sketch like all the good artists do but I've always been too afraid to actually try it. I dunno why. I guess I've just felt that it would never work. But this is a proof that it does indeed work! So basically I did the background gradient first, then painted the rough shape and started to refine it. No lineart in any phase whatsoever. The trick is to think with shadows.

I'm proud of myself for once. And what's best, this took me maybe 1.5-2 hours tops.

Just dicking around with different drawing methods again, trying stuff and so on. Colors ended up muddy and unsaturated once again so I postprocessed this to hell and back ;O

I had a lot of fun while doing this one. Tho for some reason drawing asses always weirds me out ;O

Anyways. I feel that I can do decent sketches nowdays with relative ease but shading has been my problem for god knows how long. While doing this one I observed that I use a lot of time doing miniscule increments in the shades, instead of just slapping strong shades to the pic and be done with it. Also I spend a lot of time with tweaking the lines in places where they don't even matter.

Hopefully I can get rid of that nasty habit, and I'm planning to do more of shaded pics of various subjects and themes just to get some practice in it. It feels like I had discovered a whole new level in drawing :) Oh, and I love the hat!
