I just love how these came out!
A pair of badges for Stealth Ferret and Xylophagous, who are sisters of very different species... odd.

Done in June/July

wwaaoo I haven't uploaded here in a while, despite my having done some pieces...

Chanticlair's redesign: a narwhal-unicorn horror. SHE LOST HER BADGES.

Done in May.

I had some free time today and did a loose ballpoint bird doodle in green pen which quickly became this unholy avian monstrosity. Some of the green's still visible. I call it a pseudocorvid because it looks a lot like a crow with a raven-beard, but missing the abundance of rictal bristles that most of true corvids seem to share, as well as the distinctive corvine scale configuration. Maybe it's an artamid?

la renarde

I felt inspired to draw a fox. I am forced to play one in an upcoming French assignment, hence the title...

i love the flow of the body. I need to work on anatomy though... GIRAFFEVIXEN.

The pen I used to ink skipped, making the task somewhat annoying.

forestbadge.jpg

Badge for Chanticlair, her forest shapeshifter spirit... Forest!

Screwed up a marking. Aaaah. Sparkly silver around the figure, sparkly yellow around the letters. Sparklesssss.

If I may be so conceited, this is a VERY pretty badge. In person, at least. The scan does it no justice. None. It is intensely sparkly and has a lot of pale shading which unfortunately did not show up... lots of very tiny ink lines look faded as well. This also marks my first time using my Copic 003 pen... so fun!!

Badge trade with Aurin/Sunwolf.

rikkibadge.jpg

Urghh... did this on a paper that was apparently not-so-good for pens and markers.
So it looks a little funny. Colouring the area around the name resulted in nasty grunginess, which I suppose fits with the character, but not my personal badge aesthetic. Hah. So I tried to fix it with sparkliness.

ANYWAY. This is my half of a badge trade with Underdog Rikki.

Lerie (lee'-ree) was initially a composite of my first two zombie gryph characters and over the years she became her own entity. This is the first ref I've done in ages.

NO LIGHT SOURCE SSHHH. The other ref is now officially void.

My first entirely digital lineart! I'm quite happy with it. Lerie's design has certainly changed some since the last time her full body was drawn. Right now I'm in the process of turning the larger black/white version into a reference. yeeeeeey

Drawn in Photoshop CS, tinted in Elements.

beeeeater.jpg
Image: beeeeater.jpg   255x300 32284 bytes 2007.01.20

An exaggerated and simplified little bee eater in a terrible bastardized Faboarts ripoff, but lacking the warmth and roundness.

I cut off the feet and body. They looked dumb.

It's coloured pencil, but it looks kind of oily.

graphitehead2.jpg
Image: graphitehead2.jpg   390x400 50234 bytes 2007.01.06

My new character looking over her shoulder. Er... her neck. She has a very long neck.

She's got this stripe of long fur running over her sternocleidomastoid muscles (the ones running from behind the ears to the medial part of the clavicles) which she can lift higher than the surrounding coat... that's what's going on here. Yup.

It's been a while since I've done something entirely in graphite. This version is slightly different from the one at my DA gallery.

Final ATC? I LIED

Gift for MY TOP PERSON, zweipelzeulen of DA Her birthday is today (12/28) so I was finally able to give it to her.

She loves rose-breasted cockatoos, so I felt it would be an appropriate gift. Happy birthday, Eve!

chiz.jpg

Commissioned badge for Chiz, on DA as untitledthought. Blah.

newcharheadclr2.jpg

OKAY LAST VERSION OF THIS PICTURE I SWEAR.

Took some coloured pencils to the original. The colouring's rough due to the paper's being completely unsuited for the waxiness of the pencils. It's a great paper for doing the ballpoint headshots, but I probably should have printed a copy onto a toothier paper to colour. Oh well.

This coloured version is a little more accurate than the other, but its "grunginess" makes it unsuitable for ref purposes. Blah.

newcharheadclr.jpg
Image: newcharheadclr.jpg   400x390 25715 bytes 2006.12.19

Rather hasty colouring of the headshot I did earlier. Not entirely accurate, but it serves its purpose for now.

newcharhead.jpg
Image: newcharhead.jpg   400x390 39499 bytes 2006.12.18

Another ballpoint headshot of my new character. She's still nameless, but I plan to colour this.

giraffecard.jpg
Image: giraffecard.jpg   193x250 23951 bytes 2006.12.17

Final mini-ATC holiday gift (for now). Apparently my step-grandmother likes giraffes? This is supposed to be a calf. I know the anatomy is a little off, but I've never really drawn a giraffe before.

Details have been EATEN.

badgercard.jpg
Image: badgercard.jpg   185x242 21336 bytes 2006.12.16

Second of the "series" of little cards I'm doing as gifts. This one, for my uncle, is a Eurasian badger. Never drawn one before! Why a badger? Why not? What kind of monster doesn't like badgers?

I used a mélange of refs for this, including the infamous cartoon.

moldcard.jpg
Image: moldcard.jpg   300x224 32427 bytes 2006.12.10

ATC-like thing (but a quarter-inch smaller in both dimensions) ... a gift for my grandfather. This is my grey, Moldy, because she loves him.

The scan really bothers me.

weirdwolf.jpg

Li'l extra for Schulo.

giaheads.jpg
Image: giaheads.jpg   610x532 79309 bytes 2006.12.02

This is Elegia. She's a corvid gryphon... part crow, part raven, but mostly the former. You probably haven't seen her before, but she is by no means new... I've had her since I was 13 or 14. If you HAVE seen her prior to this and the one other image she was going by a different name. And I am not going to tell you what that is.

Elegia has two physical forms, a small fledgling form (#1.) and an adult form (#2. and 3.) She can have pupils or go without them, but she's usually drawn blank-eyed.

She represents innocence and playful lunacy for me.

girlbust.jpg
Image: girlbust.jpg   254x300 29993 bytes 2006.12.01

Not an animal. NOT AN ANIMAL. (well yeah, but you know what I mean.)

Despite the relative simplicity of this (and its tiny size) I'm pretty pleased with the result. I never draw people, so this was kind of refreshing... no ref though. Would probably help.

I love the sort of weary-and-skeptical look I gave her. Heh.. you can see how the ponytail was originally sleek, but that didn't exactly fit with the rest of her hair so I added some poof.

h3dzzz.jpg
Image: h3dzzz.jpg   323x600 51179 bytes 2006.11.29

Two headshots of my new character... "normal" face and snarly face. Info on her is NOT TO BE KNOWN BY THE PUBLIC for now. She is NOT canine (the teeth hopefully reveal that). She does have her colours now. I hope to upload a coloured pic soon, and then will I reveal her inspiration info, species, and all that.

Ballpoint on cardstock... DON'T colour these. They are not a template for your character.

crazyneck2.jpg
Image: crazyneck2.jpg   600x462 53811 bytes 2006.11.27

Second draft of a character design I'm working on. Wow... compare it to the first!! Much better.

I plan to digitally give her preliminary colours later.

Same materials as the first draft: blue and black ballpoint on cardstock.

trinity.jpg
Image: trinity.jpg   461x600 125479 bytes 2006.11.20

Trade with DA's Pink-Wolfie... her fennec character Trinity in ballpoin on pretty blue parchment. This image leapt out at me almost immediately after she sent the character description! Her hair should be wavy though.. oh well.

And no, her neck is not short, it is just tucked in. I have no idea what she is supposed to be doing. Balancing? Wanting a hug?

calydone-1.jpg
Image: calydone-1.jpg   381x400 78768 bytes 2006.11.19

Badge commission for Calypte! Reupload as Ch'marr was kind enough to clean it. How nice!!

crazyneck.jpg
Image: crazyneck.jpg   700x518 33944 bytes 2006.11.18

Blue ballpoint sketch outlined in black ballpoint! I think it looks neat. Anyway, this is a rough design for a new character... yes, the neck is supposed to be long. I think for the next "draft" I'll have to shorten the neck and/or make her head bigger. There are two flowing blue lines in the neck indicating its ACTUAL thickness... the rest is just fur!!

blackhuskie.jpg
Image: blackhuskie.jpg   800x632 47482 bytes 2006.11.15

Lineart commission for Blackhuskie!! Craaazy proportions and toefloof!

kachexieparchment.jpg
Image: kachexieparchment.jpg   163x200 19445 bytes 2006.11.04

Li'l Kachexie head to test coloured pencils on parchment.

dootdootdoot... her vision is very weak and she relies almost exclusevely on her senses of smell and hearing to get around. Her sight is especially poor in the dark because her pupils are fixed in miosis.

YEAH THIS IS ALL WELL AND GOOD AVE NOW HOW ABOUT SOME BODIES SERIOUSLY
