"A Fairytale About Slavery" is a really pretty song by Miranda Sex Garden. Katharine Blake has quite a nice voice. That thing on Verveine's leg is supposed to be some sort of a snare.

I had some free time today and did a loose ballpoint bird doodle in green pen which quickly became this unholy avian monstrosity. Some of the green's still visible. I call it a pseudocorvid because it looks a lot like a crow with a raven-beard, but missing the abundance of rictal bristles that most of true corvids seem to share, as well as the distinctive corvine scale configuration. Maybe it's an artamid?

Kachexie the zombie Icelandic sheepdog looking as if something she was pursuing just flew off.

| Image: AMY!!.jpg
599x593 103803 bytes 2004.10.26
A sketch of Amy, because I haven't drawn her in forever. I rather like the face, but I REALLY screwed up on the wing. It's funny- birds (particularly corvids) are my favourite animals, yet I detest drawing wings and have a morbid fear of heights.

600x466 99213 bytes 2006.03.06
Amy's design has changed pretty significantly over the years. Back in 2003 she had an almost rabbit-like body: more weight in the hindquarters and small front limbs along with a sail-like crest.

This was originally drawn in February, but I managed to dig it up while searching for pieces to display in an upcoming art show.

468x700 68589 bytes 2006.03.06
Amy Lacour-Delacroix in human form! She's a gryphon who can take the shape of a human and anywhere between the two species. The bars on her arms are always present in any of her forms though: they're remnants of her scutellar scales. She retains several other avian characteristics in this form; long, flexible neck, curved talons, a penchant for mimicry, and an obvious furcula rather than typical human clavicles.

Basic inking for my "about me" page on Furbid. I'm going to experiment in adding a few more values to this than just the solid black and white.

This is done as it'll ever be, I think. I'm kind of happy with the results. A little.

If I may be so conceited, this is a VERY pretty badge. In person, at least. The scan does it no justice. None. It is intensely sparkly and has a lot of pale shading which unfortunately did not show up... lots of very tiny ink lines look faded as well. This also marks my first time using my Copic 003 pen... so fun!!

| Image: axolotl.jpg
600x545 82972 bytes 2006.09.19
In my recent DA journal I asked for suggestions on which non-canine and non-avian creature to draw and Chanticlair suggested some sort of herp, so I chose one of my favourite amphibians, the vacant looking AXOLOTL. It is a Mexican salamander that some people eat. (eeewww) Most of the ones I have seen are leucistic, with dark eyes, white skin, and pink gill fringes.

Kachexie came out like lame x500, especially in the scan.I think I'll have to go over it again.I'm glad I got to show her black gums and pink/green/black patched rotty tongue though. The whole thing looks MARGINALLY better in person. When I did the lines/colouring my hand was aching like crazy, so I think that had something to do with it.

185x242 21336 bytes 2006.12.16
Second of the "series" of little cards I'm doing as gifts. This one, for my uncle, is a Eurasian badger. Never drawn one before! Why a badger? Why not? What kind of monster doesn't like badgers?

255x300 32284 bytes 2007.01.20
An exaggerated and simplified little bee eater in a terrible bastardized Faboarts ripoff, but lacking the warmth and roundness.

| Image: belle.jpg
478x567 27387 bytes 2005.11.28
I learned Friday that Belle had died. She was a scrawny, balding cockatiel, not at all a bird who grabbed your attention when you walked into the animal shelter where she lived the last few months of her life. I, however, fell in love with her. Initially a fearful, VERY aggressive creature (My hand ended up perforated as a result of my first meeting with her), I eventually transformed Belle into a wonderfully affectionate little bird.

I've been drawing a lot of this shiba inu lately... maybe she'll become a character soon.

Another brightly coloured gryphon.

Finished commission for DA's Darlenewolfen, pretty happy with it. This her character BlueScar.

400x369 63155 bytes 2006.05.21
Trade with DA's wingedwolf2004. Not as sparkle-intensive as the others, but just as destroyed by the scan... the letters are kind of weird, but I do like how everything else looks in real life.

Just a little something for myself, but if you're taken by him and really want him, email me with an offer.

A scan of brightgryph.jpg before I coloured him. Please don't recolour this.

Finished trade with DA's scbordercollie01, her character Brynn.

1001x427 43191 bytes 2005.12.20
I borrowed the Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting from my English teacher. This book is a document originally from about the late 1600s, intended to instruct in traditional Asian-style art. Sooo, I set to wasting class-time drawing these pseudo-Oriental birdies.

| Image: bunch-o-birds2.gif
1300x323 42077 bytes 2005.12.21
More birds! These were all done with a sumi-e brush, which is obviously more suited to this style of art than yesterday's ballpoint or even the dip pen. This should be the last of the miniseries... no more arrays of Asian birdies. Aww.

| Image: caffeinefree.jpg
400x388 69790 bytes 2006.08.25
Kachexie is a zombie with a VERY slow metabolism, slow enough that it is difficult to detect. This is why she requires caffeine as her main "energy" source! As a stimulant it boosts her metabolic functions and she can digest what she eats and perform CELLULAR RESPIRAAAAATION. She's somehow able to glean more energy from her food than a living dog her size after receiving her caffeine fix, but as her bodily functions are regulated by so fickle a source, she stores a good deal of glycerol as FAT. Not excessive fat, but adipose tissue nonetheless. This is also why she fails to live up to her name. (kachexie = cachexia = atrophy) Other zombies, such as Lerie, lack fat entirely and appear completely emaciated.

Badge commission for Calypte! Reupload as Ch'marr was kind enough to clean it. How nice!!
| Image: campin'candiru.gif
644x734 43194 bytes 2006.03.31
This was inspired by a really amusing chat with xenidra in which we discussed the horrible candiru, which is a wicked Amazonian catfish that likes to invade the urogenital system! And I wondered whether or nor they could "camp out" in the uterus, which led to this...

| Image: caput-mortuum.jpg
370x500 106466 bytes 2006.03.02
"Death's Head". I have really been bitten by the painty bug lately. I wanted to make the head itself an ACTUAL caput mortuum colour to fit the title better, but... no. I have a pretty limited watercolour palette.
| Image: channiclurr-got-th-RABIES.jpg
435x600 106250 bytes 2006.09.13
When Chanticlair got her tablet, she made a journal entitled "MASSIVE FOAMING AT TEH MOUTH"... which inspired this.
