More birds! These were all done with a sumi-e brush, which is obviously more suited to this style of art than yesterday's ballpoint or even the dip pen. This should be the last of the miniseries... no more arrays of Asian birdies. Aww.

I like this one so much better than the first!

I borrowed the Mustard Seed Garden Manual of Painting from my English teacher. This book is a document originally from about the late 1600s, intended to instruct in traditional Asian-style art. Sooo, I set to wasting class-time drawing these pseudo-Oriental birdies.

The first three are done in fountain pen and the fourth was done several hours later with a ballpoint. I love the second and fourth ones, they're so cute! I'm going to try this again, the style is really simple and fun.

Inspired by my so-called "magical" ability to get creepy people to go away. Am I that intimidating? Haha.

That stuff between her paws is condensed magic, y'see. Yup.

play.jpg
Image: play.jpg   675x400 86781 bytes 2005.12.15

I think that this is just so cute!

The zombie gryphlet wants the normal gryphlet to play with it, but the latter gryphlet is disgusted. Poor little zombie.

fledge.jpg
Image: fledge.jpg   600x497 50017 bytes 2005.12.13

Awwww, it's a little fledgling gryphlet! I don't know WHAT happened to this, the scan messed it up somehow.

velores3.gif
Image: velores3.gif   545x800 32344 bytes 2005.12.11

VERY basic lineart for Velo's commission of himself and his mate Resin. Their markings aren't even delineated yet, but this'll be coloured.

willow.jpg
Image: willow.jpg   400x508 54124 bytes 2005.12.04

I dug up my old Canson Mi-Teintes pad... thought I might as well get back into the swing of using coloured pencil. This is Willow the Siberian husky/Alaskan malamute, that old cannibalistic devil from my now defunct/on hiatus comic.

I don't like this. The pen is too harsh in comparison with the softness of the colouration, I think, and the drawing itself was poorly done. It's a great paper for coloured pencil though, so naturally, I'll try again.

merleback.gif
Image: merleback.gif   385x800 20570 bytes 2005.11.30

Merle's back, the reason why she tends to wear halter tops. I might have said she was a golden jackal before... disregard that, I guess I had forgotten that she's a black-backed. After her creation, the mark of the beast was carved into her back. I may change the arrangement of the 6s to more of a triskelion... it'll look cooler. I screwed up the feet VERY badly, so I cut the bottom off.

It looks like she's checking her watch or something.

isthiswhatyouwant.gif

I hate the holiday season. Why? Every year I'm forced to churn out landscapes/floral scenes DEVOID OF ANIMALS for relatives. I love drawing animals. If there's no sentient life in what I'm drawing, I lose interest and it becomes a chore rather than something enjoyable. When I lose interest, quality goes downhill. So, is THIS what you want? A dinky little flower looking as if it could have been drawn by a toddler?

merleaxe.gif
Image: merleaxe.gif   437x700 17922 bytes 2005.11.30

"Meine damen und herren, thank you and good night. I'll be here all week."

Just a quickie pen doodle of Merle with a weird-shaped axe. She's a maven with most traditional weapons. Which leads to the question: which is scarier, a giant biped jackal coming at you with a axe, or a giant biped jackal coming at you with a roque mallet?

vespergrrr.gif
Image: vespergrrr.gif   500x500 28653 bytes 2005.11.28

Vesper, angry for some reason. She has a much more unstable personality than Siegerin and is therefore prone to violent mood swings.

Do dogs have uvulae? I don't know.

draka.gif
Image: draka.gif   600x633 47515 bytes 2005.11.28

I almost never draw dragons, so I thought I might as well do so. I like how this came out.

siegpants.gif
Image: siegpants.gif   519x700 28147 bytes 2005.11.28

Siegerin in some fun cargoesque tent pants. She had feet originally, I guess they're under the pants now? One of her spots is too big and her eye looks anime-ish. ARGH AND HER CROTCH IS CROOKED. Blergh.

eskiegryps.gif
Image: eskiegryps.gif   500x481 16296 bytes 2005.11.28

American Eskimo.... Gryphon! It's silly.

belle.jpg
Image: belle.jpg   478x567 27387 bytes 2005.11.28

I learned Friday that Belle had died. She was a scrawny, balding cockatiel, not at all a bird who grabbed your attention when you walked into the animal shelter where she lived the last few months of her life. I, however, fell in love with her. Initially a fearful, VERY aggressive creature (My hand ended up perforated as a result of my first meeting with her), I eventually transformed Belle into a wonderfully affectionate little bird.

This picture doesn't much look like Belle, but I want to remember her. I'll miss her.

huskypsa2.jpg
Image: huskypsa2.jpg   423x572 54040 bytes 2005.11.27

I had drawn this for an advertisement for animal shelters... thought I might as well upload it 'cause it's cute.

leriechar.gif
Image: leriechar.gif   900x692 207067 bytes 2005.11.24

This is from July. It's a simple character sheet of my zombie gryphlet character Lerie, who first made herself known in a comic. She's so cute.

moribund.gif
Image: moribund.gif   700x587 23027 bytes 2005.11.21

This is Moribund, a fairly old character of mine whom I rarely draw. Despite the rather effeminate appearance, Moribund is indeed MALE. He was originally a (severely deformed) white-necked raven gryph but now he's pretty much just a (severely deformed) generic corvid gryph. He's the second of three death deities I created for stories, but I forget exactly which stage of the dying process he represents. I should definitely draw him more often.

AND SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS, SEND ME FEEDBACK. Not just about this, about anything. I love knowing what you think about my stuff.

tournipaint.jpg
Image: tournipaint.jpg   500x387 41642 bytes 2005.11.21

And here's the part where we see why ol' auntie avelacuna isn't a watercolourist, yes yes? Oh well, at least this was fun.

Dingy Tourniquet. She's in serious need of a design update. Most of the colour on her is just foreign material she's picked up... she's grey. Just grey with a bit of black.

huskygirl-ink.gif
Image: huskygirl-ink.gif   500x755 25555 bytes 2005.11.21

Tentative design for a therianthropic husky I plan to use in a short story i may or may not write. There was originally a Pzychobitch logo on the tank but I completely screwed it up. Aww.

pauraque.gif
Image: pauraque.gif   850x442 45683 bytes 2005.11.18

An avianthropic pauraque collects its book after dropping it in surprise.

A pauraque (Nyctidromus albicollus) is a type of nightjar found in the Western hemisphere with VERY complex camouflaged markings. My rendition of the species is one of almost absurd simplicity. Google pauraques NOW. They're so cute. If you don't think so, there is something seriously wrong with you.

sieglay.gif
Image: sieglay.gif   593x800 47408 bytes 2005.11.15

Siegerin lying around being the lazy thing that she is. The pose was unfortunately improvised as this was drawn in class. I didn't add any value to the dark area around her eyes and muzzle because I'm way too wimpy to attempt that with my inking skills...and yes, the part DOES extend down her neck.

I might colour it: hopefully two versions, one digital, one traditional.

headfallsoff.jpg
Image: headfallsoff.jpg   800x406 80965 bytes 2005.11.13

This is old. So very, very old, but still likeable, I think, so here it is.

winglessgryph.gif

Cute little wingless gryphon. That's all.

IMPETIGO.gif
Image: IMPETIGO.gif   535x510 110962 bytes 2005.11.10

I think I'm coming down with the dread disease IMPETIGO. Again. Second time in three months. It's much more horrid than the image suggests.

uglyuglyugly.jpg
Image: uglyuglyugly.jpg   472x451 33456 bytes 2005.11.10

Tomorrow is my mom's birthday. I'm notorious for either making her gifts she doesn't like or not making them at all. So I decided to draw her the thing she loves most: IN ADVANCE.

This is her Chihuahua. She loves it more than me, my sister, and life itself. I hate that "dog". Off topic, I know, but it's an animal so it still counts. My mom had better like this picture. If not, HEADS WILL ROLL.

xibalbanraven.jpg
Image: xibalbanraven.jpg   825x531 93783 bytes 2005.11.08

The Xibalban raven is a species of large, bipedal, terrestrial, sapient corvid descended from a flock of ravens that entered the Mayan underworld of Xibalba and became trapped. No, they don't exist in Mayan mythology. I created them a while ago for use in a story I was writing but abandoned.

They have three fingers and two thumbs on each hand, a long, stiff feathered tail for balance, and they are capable of limited flight. They're too heavy to really fly. There is little external dimorphsm between the sexes. Both sexes adore body paint, as this image shows.

This picture is from August or so, the design of the Xibby has changed since then.

tourniscreech.gif
Image: tourniscreech.gif   391x300 52978 bytes 2005.11.07

Tourniquet the gryphon making some noise.

I should draw her more often: she's pretty in color, even though she doesn't have a finalized form...

Giftie for Louve 'cause i lovelovelovelove her stuff. Her hair looks like carrots. Damn.

come on, tie me to the wall!"
