Be My Cuttlefish

Just a valentine going out to all my fans and friends, especially Will! <3 So it was a bit rushed, but I still think it's cute. ^.^

A beautiful blue-eyed lion. Practice with oil pastels. Came out rather nice. Even the scan looks good.

Cute little cross fox. I drew this from a reference pic from a taxidermy website of all places! But I got interested in cross foxes, and that was the only decent picture I could find on the 'net of one. So cute still!

Looking though old sketchbooks... this is almost recent, not more than six months ago. I drew a giraffe. Ah yes, I remember drawing it too... I swear, they gave giraffes spots like that just to taunt me! Very difficult things for me to draw. Looks good though.

We had a wildlife artist speak at Biology Club(yes, I do attend their meetings from time to time, what can I say I'm a nerd) and he let us draw some things from his bug collection. I chose a particularly creepy-looking insect. Its body is about 2 inches long with these huge ovipositors coming out the rear end. Yes, those are the things it lays eggs with. Weird huh?

Lion I drew in class. I didn't use any references, it just came to me. I think I wanted to make a winged lion, but I like just normal lion now. For some reason I've suddenly developed a lion fetish... *shrugs* I think it's my mate's mane. :)

Cute little lion cub I drew. I decided that since I almost never draw baby animals, I would, because they're just so cute. :) I used a reference pic for this one. It was from a book called "Pride's Progress" by Emma Haas, published back in the 60's. And I think I did a good job of capturing a baby lion! Got the paws a bit off, but I'll work on that. Like I said, I never draw baby animals... :\

Reily and Petey

My half of a chibi trade with Risha! This is her beagle, Reily, and her neighbor's cat who hangs around her house, Petey. Reily wants to play but Petey doesn't get along with him. ^^;

Really neat saber-tooth tiger skull. I gave it eyeballs. It scared my friend Jen, but then again, she's so easy to scare...
I drew the outline around it because of a facial anatomy assignment I did in drawing class recently and thought it was kind of fun. And it looks kind of lumpy and lopsided because I used a bad-quality Internet photo for reference.
Putting it in the Real Animals directory because it was a real animal at one time.

Yay, my first scratchboard piece! Not too bad. I got to go to a scratchboard workshop at the Peterson Nature Art Festival in Jamestown over the summer, and this is what I made. I used a picture that I took at the Buffalo Zoo for reference. I like zoos...

For Earth Day my school had this Earthfest thingy and there was a petting zoo and I got to sketch sheep for about an hour. I like sheep! Anyway, this is the finished drawing I did afterwards. I think I've gotten a lot better at drawing sheep after doing life sketches. Remember kids, sketching from life is important! I need to draw more sheep, they're one of my favorite animals and I don't draw them nearly enough. :)

'Nother giftie for my sister Taj Marleau! It's he cute kitty Sissy, who now lives im my room because Taj joined the Navy and can't have kitties on base. Done in oil paints, because they're fun and I haven't played with them in a while.

unicorn.jpg

Why are people so adamant in insisting that unicorns can't exist? I think that unicorns are probably one of the most plausible mythical creatures. Think about it, a horse with a horn on its head, nothing more(except for the mystical powers they are said to have, but I won't even touch that right now.) Well I certainly beleive in unicorns(and other mythicals!)! I've been seeing unicorns in my dreams quite often lately as a matter of fact. This is what they look like in those dreams.

As for technical notes on this, I think I'm getting better with equine anatomy. I've been doing more backgrounds lately too, with some prodding from Will. :) The ocean and pirate ship in the background were his idea as well. :) And of course it din't scan very well. *mumblegrumble*

One thing I've noticed when I go to the zoo, most people don't talk about the beauty and majesty of the tiger, but rather discuss how fast it can eat you....
I think tigers are beautiful animals that deserve the same respect as any creature. Thus, here is a beautiful and majestic tiger. Drawn with colored pencils. Somehow I am not happy with the water... Everyone else seems to love it though.

Some practice with drawing more normalish animals again. Yay wolfies!

wolfwoods.jpg
Image: wolfwoods.jpg   800x530 151669 bytes 2005.02.26

This has got to be one of the most detailed backgrounda I've ever done! I added some buggies because the wolf seemed to need something to look at. Dragonflies work great for that! I'm lovin my pastels, yes I am!
