Drawn while watching one of my favorite movies, The Prince of Egypt, and wondering what it all must have been like. It's Kay, sitting and thinking about something sad maybe? Or something really happy and she is full of joy. Even i don't know, and thats not too good... The background..i got stuck so i made a storm outside the cloth but not inside... I like where the lightening meets the ground. And do you notice her new makings? A big thank you to Leona who sent me her suggestion that i fiddled with to get something i liked :)

*Guess it wasn't fuzzed enough..oh well. Not too hard to fix up...* I had chipped all the paint off my necklace in study hall and designed a new pic to go on it. The face is on the front and the name and rat logo are on the back. The star is a charm that was already there. My dad wanted to know why i put the dog on there and why the word RUNT was on it... You think he would get it by now :P \r\n

Since the other one had long since fallen apart, i made a new dog tag, this time a set, and actual dog-tag size! And Cricket actually looks like i've always wanted her to! I'm very happy with these :) And the number, btw, is my ICQ number lol

I always wondered what she would look like with a long tail... I don't like it, and i donít think Cricket does either :P Poor pup; she'll get her short tail back next time!

I was really tired in class yesterday, so of course, Runt is tired. Coloured and inked while at home, otherwise, done in study hall, along with several other pics that aren't done yet. My brother thinks its strange, but good... Anyways, Runt © Laura Westrate\r\n

Bigger version of my newest avatar. Shrinking it lost some detail, and i like it okay as a regular pic. Flash 5 over a pencil sketch (which i like better than this final one :P and it's in my Sketches directory).

Not only is this a pic for Rio, whom i had to put down today (3-26-02), but also for all my other rats who have passed away; 23 of them, and i remember every one. From Keta who lived 3 days, to Pearl, Wilburt and Rio who lived to be 2 or more years old. Lulu with her broken back, Pipinís broken nose and stubby teeth. My sweet Midge and her tumor, Igor my worried little man. Mink and his feetÖ I love them all more than i could say. Its so hard most times to have a pet you love so much, but know they will be gone in one to three years. \r\n\r\n For those of you who don't understand pet rats, imagine the love you have for your dog, cat, bird, whatever, overflowing in a little critter that people run away from and insult, and who will die in the time it takes other pets to even become an adult. I love the way theyíll lick your fingers, groom your hand, fall asleep on your lap. I watch them eat, and the comical ways they find to sleep, the silly things they do. I love it when they grind their teeth with joy, pleasure, happiness. Each rat is so different from one another. They are just so wonderful and i wish more people could understand... Sleep well my little friends; you are loved.

Just put one of the last of my baby rats down. Well, Wilburt was over two years old, but he was still my baby. Had him since he was born. He and his siblings were born three days before my birthday. Best gift i have ever gotten :) Little ratties are so fun and cute! Sort of a self-portrait of me too, with my earrings, necklace and ring. I have a shirt thatís yellow like that, only it has the Captain Crunch cereal logo on the front with NEWSBOYS written under it (and BREAKFAST NOT SERVED HERE written over flames on the back :D ) I am left once again with only 5 rats, and i doubt my mom will be so nice as to let me get another one :( Oh Wilburt...

I was trying to be artistic... From a few months ago, since her markings aren't current. Coloured pencil with a watercolour wash over it.

Look, symbolism! Went to a Third Day concert and was inspired to do this pic. And no, her nose is NOT bleeding, thank you very much. Pics that mean so much to you are often ruined by what people that dont understand them say. Oh well, such is life. Runt and rest of pic © Laura Westrate, which would be me, not you :D k, yah... laters

This started in Study Hall. I was fussing with the key chains on my backpack and noticed the finish was wearing off one of them. The pattern looked kinda like this to me. I took the last half hour of class and drew this. Finished it up at home with an eraser and blending nub. I rarely draw gryphons, iím sure you can tell now...i will leave them to the more experienced people and stick with my rats :)

Yeah, yeah, they may not look like much, but im proud of them lol\r\nI am such a narcissist >.< (dog form at least)\r\n\r\nTotal time to complete the mood theme, including sorting them out over at LiveJournal, but excluding a botched computer-colouring attempt: 8-9 hours.\r\nIf you like these and think you want me to make you a set of your own, think twice. Mucho dinero...things like this wont come cheap from me. I enjoyed it, but they were a pain in the butt! lol\r\nAlso, if you think you can steal these, DON'T. I will get after you for it. It will make no one happy. Thank you :)

I couldn't help myself! XD There were some drawings that just didn't fit the emotion i had assigned to them, and others i had originally forgotten about, so i had to make some more!\r\n\r\nAnd again (just to be darned annoying), i shall reiterate: If you think you can steal these, DON'T. I will get after you for it. It will make no one happy. Thank you :)

Apologies for the greyish photo... I wasn't keen on the idea of spending the same amount of time piecing together scans of this image as it did to create the whole thing in the first place.\r\nJust 3 hours of mindless scribbling on a piece of 12x18 inch paper. Tis LolliPup, a character of mine who doesn't get drawn much. Yay for incense...

This pic was inspired by a rat i had many years ago. Lulu, a beautiful blue hooded rat, used to be this sleek, hyper little girl. She could jump several feet (high and long, with a record of 40-some inches long once...). Somehow, that changed and Lulu started to gain weight; eventually she could no longer jump so well. My brother got the quote from some Disney "documentary" on wood ducks, and it fit poor Lulu perfectly! Sadly, a few months later Lulu fell about 4 feet from her cage and broke her back. She regained some movement, and i made her a little harness and she had swimming therapy sessions, which seemed to help, but after another few months, she had to be put down. She was almost 3 years old though, which is pretty good for a rat. Prismacolor markers, gel pens and some fancy paper and printer ink.

I just put my pencil to the paper and let my hand go. This is the result. Maybe its some deep inner emotion of mine that needed to be let out ...riiight. I think itís cute. I like it. Itís in a frame on my bedroom wall. Ink and Prismacolor markers and coloured pencils.

I got new inking pens a few weeks ago and tested them out on this pic. Keep in mind I wasn't trying for anything even remotely good, just a test. The coat was inked in black and the head in dark brown, though you can't really tell in the scan. Coloured/poorly shaded with Prisma markers.

Rio(hooded rat): "Man, they need to put warning labels on these things!" (I wanted it to look kinda sketchy and for as messy ended up it sure did take WAY too long. I wont do it again. The can was kinda fun though...)

I did the pencil sketch of this in my journal on the way to Yellowstone. Over a month later, i finally scanned it and inked it in Flash, then coloured it in PSP 5 ('cause Flash was being mean). If i've got my Spanish right, Melado means "honey-coloured" which i thought was cute for him...

New char. Midge, after my favorite rattie. This is the top half of the whole pic. The dress wrinkles are going to take me forever... I love Medieval/Renaissance stuff so thatís where her dress came from (though i doubt that there is one like that..i made it up). And that braid on her head, itís not real! lol Maybe thatís why she has that kinda smug look on her face.

This is a very rattie uploading session huh? Mink is another fav rattie of mine. More on the pic itself. And again, if you steal it, Wilburt will come break your arm :) Such a sweet rattie...good boy :D

I shoulda known better... my rats are my muses! I feel like i could draw a human right now! *gasp* But i wont, it's late and i need to go to bed. Oh, this is my only male rat that i have right now. His name is Monty and he's such a sweetheart :) Just a doodle that took over an hour while waiting for a friend to come online.
458x392 43502 bytes 2002.04.06
The most detailed drawing i did while watching my 4 rats in the living room today (in my sketches section). I squeaked at them and Mori looked up just like this. She looked really cute (as is normal for her). I think i captured her face quite well if i do say so myself...

Yeah... erm.. does anyone have a background idea? I'm totally stuck lol

Finally finished this commission after... *ashamed to say* way too many months. Anyway, this is Murashu; he's an aardwolf. The combination of my scanner and .jpg compression really dulled the colours, but i am happy with this for the most part. And just a random side note, i think he looks pretty cool with inverted colours lol\r\n\r\nPrismacolor markers and coloured pencils with a touch of white gelpen\r\nMurashu © 1996 his player, image © 2002 Laura Westrate

Testing colours for my commission... It has taken me about 7 months to get this far, several sketches and now an inked pic waiting for the colours to be okayed. I'm ashamed of myself, so slow...
