Azhar Serpent-Slayer was offered as a the prize for the Rage: Apocalypse tournament at Origins 2002. Back view.

His tail looks really odd in this picture because of the angle it was taken at. The blood splattered by his foot and leg is supposed to be his own. He has a wound on the chest, so the irregular splotches goy applied to the ground to indicate he'd just walked from somewhere else, leaving the blood trail.

Azhar Serpent-Slayer was offered as a the prize for the Rage: Apocalypse tournament at Origins 2002. Back right hand view.

The actual title etched on the underside of the base says "Azhar Serpent Slayer of the Sept of the Shattered Stone Spring". None of the pictures turned out showing off the spring well. You can see some high shine off some of the rocks from the angle, but not well. There's actually a water effect, with the water bubbling up out of what appeares to be a metorite amidst a pile of broken stones. Thus the shattered stone spring.

Azhar Serpent-Slayer was offered as a the prize for the Rage: Apocalypse tournament at Origins 2002. Azhar is a Theurge Silver Fang of House Wiseheart. He's visiting the States from Israel. At the time the storyline was being written, the current Palestinian-Israeli conflict hadn't flared up, otherwise an Israeli Fang probably wouldn't have been included.
Due to Azhar's background, I breifly toyed with painting the cloth wrapping the sword as either a prayer shawl or a keffiyeh (the checked thing the Palestinians wear) or doing two wraps, one of each, but finally decided someone would take it badly, and just painted it this greyish blue.

Azhar Serpent-Slayer was offered as a the prize for the Rage: Apocalypse tournament at Origins 2002. He's one of the current storyline characters. (read storyline at http://www.geocities.com/fenris_lorsrai/) He's a Theurge Silver Fang.

Azhar was done by applying Apoxie Sculpt over a foam and wire armiture. The base is a foam base with a veneer of Apoxie Sculpt over it that had natural stone and sand pressed into it while wet. He was painted in acrylics. The water effect was done with clear Elmer's School Glue gel.

What's up with the sword? Azhar doesn't carry it around in the Rage storyline, doesn't dress like this normally, and isn't much for combat. This is basically depicting an incident from the past at his home sept, before he came to visit the US and got involved in the current storyline. Hopefully I'll get more into Azhar's background in one of the upcoming storyline segments. And into Lone Wolf Circle's background as well.

I love the cloth wrapped around the sword, especially where one of Azhar's claws is pokign through a hole torn in the cloth. Its a lovely detail that turned out real well.

This sculpture went to a Rage: Tribal War tournament in Helsinki, Finland (hopefully. At the time I'm writing this description, it was stuck in Finnish customs because it was "suspicious")
The subject matter was chosen by the previous tournament winner, a fellow by the name of Samuli, who's won several of the Finnish tournaments, thus the werewolf in the sculpture is carving another notch into his rifle stock. He gave me a very vague description of a Shadow Lord character he wanted done, but left me lots of leeway. As Tribal War has a Wild West theme, we went for the bandito kind of style here.

Flatline the Shadow Lord werewolf- overhead view.
This picture came out a bit more heavily shadowed than I intended, so you can't quite see the stock for the rifle clearly and the fact that he's carving a notches into it, per the Wild West cliche of putting them in for the kill. Amusingly enough, the person this was modeled on, after racking up many tournament victories, failed to win at the tournament Flatline was offered at (the Helsinki Spring Equinox brawl).
Oddly, he was slightly damaged in shipping, but it was the very meaty hand holding the rifle that developed a crack fault rather than the much more delicate outstrretched finger on the other hand or his ears. From the description I got of the damage (which was repaired neatly by the tournament director so it ended up invisible), it sounded like the crack fault occured at a spot where there was a join in the underlying armature. The other seemingly weak points, the outstretched claw and the ears, are heavily reinforced with steel wire, so cracks are hard to make. The crack fault on the other hand occured at the wrist, where there's an armature join. I think I may start having to solder the join points instead of leaving flex points.

Flatline the Shadow Lord, sideview. The photo is a bit blurry, but this is primarily to show the positioning.
As with previous statues, this was done as a wire and styrofoam armature with a layer of Apoxie Sculpt over the top, which was how all the detailing was done.
The base is native Connecticut stone, which necessitated actually signing the pieces with a sharpie marker, instead of carving the signtaure into the base as I normally do.

Happy news, Finnish customs listened to reason and released the statue to the tournament director, no problem, once he actually showed up to claim it. (though they must have been terribly surprised to find a werewolf in a box).
This is a view from the left side. There's a greenish tint to the picture due to my terribly photography skills. He's actually a slatey grey, was highlighted in a pale brownish grey and washed in black.

Flatline the werewolf sitting on a rock- back view.
That's a genuine Connecticut rock he's sitting on there. The trick with using actual stone as part of a sculpture is finding one with sufficiently small crystals and grains that it doesn't look out of proportion. Since the whole sculpture is less than a foot tall (less than 30CM for you metric types), you need to be careful that the crystals be in proportion to the actual sculpture. Since this is Werewolf: the Apocalypse style werewolf, he'd be roughly 9 feet tall in Crinos, so imagine the crystals in the rock, nine times the size they appear here. And you thought picking the right rock was easy!

Flatline the Shadow Lord werewolf- kind of front and left hand view. The reason thing look a little off kilter in this picture is because Flatline in actually laying on his back and side in this picture so I could get a shot from in front and below, which wasn't happenin with him sitting on the rock normally.
The picture is oddly tinted because of adjustments in photoshop to lighten it. The rife stock came out a lovely dark and light marbled color once I was done painting it, like real wood. I was very pleased with it and the leather bandalero he's staoring his shells in. The pendant has the glyph for 'raven' on it, from Werewolf: the Apocalypse, put it's so small the detail wasn't showing up in the photograph.

Flatline the Shadow Lord werewolf- front view, looking up
It's not clear in the picture, but he does have twotoned irises, not just simple black and white eyes. I went a lot heavier outlining the eye and lids on this one than I had previously, and it really makes them jump out in this piece. Ths same goes for the lips as I did I left larger portion of the smooth part of the lips exposed in his. You can't really see the flash of teeth from this angle, but I was extremely pleased with how the expression came out overall.

Gillian Fangs-First (a Lupus, Ahroun, Get of Fenris) was offered as a prize at the Rage: Tribal War tournament at GenCon 2002. Richard Kane Ferguson's depiction of Gillian in the Rage CCG was used as reference. Back view.

Gillian looks a little off balance from behind because she's partially turned. The blood dripping from the head is only down the one side of her body to indicate the direction of the turn as she was lifting it into position. The blood trail behind her indicates she was travelling, not simply standing and lifting.

I really like how Gillians hands came out. Even though neither hand is actually in the gore of the severed neck, she had to get the head off the body somehow! So both sets of claws and her face are stained with blood from having battled the beast and then removed its head.

I despise her tail though. I moved its position several times during the initial positioning. Once I'd sculpted her to the shoulders, I finally decided it really should follow the line of her spine for balance, which meant it really should be tucked partially between her legs. So I then SAWED OFF the tail I'd orginally sculpted, and repositioned it in this down position. I couldn't quite bring myself to put the conquering hero's tail tucked between her legs like it should be for balance reasons. So it looks a bit off.

Despite appearances to the contrary in these photos, Gillian is not actually white. She's a very pale blue grey. She was heavily highlighted in white, but her undercoat is actually blue. The camera just wasn't picking up the color correctly. I kept the blueish color scheme from Ferguson's original color scheme, but passed on the big yellow teeth. Her's are shiny white. The eyes are also a bit more detailed, having a couple different shades of yellow, instead of the fairly flat one used in the CCG picture (which incidentaly matched the color of her teeth. Ick)

This sculpture was offered as the prize for the Rage: Tribal War tournament at GenCon 2002. So here she is. Richard Kane Ferguson's depiction of Gillian in the Rage CCG was used as reference.

Gillian has a thing for heads. In her Crinos depiction in the CCG, she's shown holding up a trophy string of severed humans heads, with one guy still struggling, tied into the mass. Rather than doing a direct copy of the picture, I chose to have her carrying off the head of a monster she's killed, holding it overhead and howling triumphantly.
It's gory and violent, but less so than her original depiction. Here she's clearly a hero, fighting evil Wyrm creatures. In her picture for Rage, because she's shown with humans she's killed, and one she's clearly torturing, its very ambiguous as to whether she's a hero, or just a murderous psychopath.

Gillian Fangs-First (Lupus Ahroun Get of Fenris)was offered as the prize for the Rage: Tribal War tournament at GenCon 2002. Richard Kane Ferguson's depiction of Gillian in the Rage CCG was used as reference.

Gillian, mighty warrior that she is, has balls of steel. No, really. Because the sculpture is so tall and light (less than a pound) I partially hollowed out the base and included 4 steel balls in the bottom which then got covered in Apoxie sculpt so they're hidden. The steel balls were from a railroad steel joiner, which is a machine they run along the tracks to spot weld joints.
She's really stable now, you have to whack her pretty good and high up to tip her over.
The people at the GenCon tournament were amused, since in tournament, Gillian (the CCG character) was kicking serious tail. They atrributed it to the ferocious rendition of herself. It's like she had herself as a personal totem!

I'm very fond of the eyes on both heads. Gillian has a proper ferocious intensity to her gaze, emphasized by the dark outlining around her eyes. The dragon's eyes are only vaguely visible in the photo, but they're rolled in two different direction and partially back into the heads. They're done in a pale bluegrey (matching Gillian's undercoat) and the pupils were done in a midtone grey instead of black, so as to give it that proper fisheyed dead look.

Gillian, like most of my sculptures, is Apoxie sculpt over a foam and wire armiture. The base is foam with a veneer of Apxie sculpt over it with sand pressed into it while still wet. But now I know the secret to getting the sand to adhere better, use damp sand instead of dry. Not wet, but damp. And let it dry without brushing all the excess off.

With WW Garou, its pretty hard to indicate gender. Gillian compared to my other Garou has longer thinnner limbs. Her hands and claws in particular are a light lighter than the other Garou. She's a bit narrower across the skull and has a more distint waist, but that's about it. Garou in Crinos aren't supposed to have external gender signals. So no breasts for Gillian. And the males don't have anything hanging out. The official party line on males is that they're retractable. O-kay.

The severed head was actually sculpted seperate from the rest of Gillian. It was placed in her hands after she been sculpted all the way to the elbow. The forearms and the hands were the last part done, and the finished head was placed between them then after the rest of the structure had time to dry, so it would sit securely.

Hunts ties some hapless victims entrails across the sign to the Ragnarok Casino's neon sign. She looks so gleefully happy about it too... hopefully they belonged to someone very bad.
The blood effect on the entrails was done by adding red acrylic to Elmer's clear school glue gel and slathering it on liberally to give it some extra 'weight'. It also dries with a high shine.

Hunts' fur color was a bit of a shot in the dark, as her depiction in Rage has her in heavy shadow much of the time, but she has a golden orange color on the edge of her fur (the lit part) in the Lupus picture. In Crinos, in shadow, she's brown. So here she's shown with a somewhat mottled coat of yellows and browns. The same dusty orange was used in the background for the Fox girl picture http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Fenris-Lorsrai/foxgirlfinal.jpg as it was done while I was waiting for Hunts paint to dry, and I had a lot of leftover orange...

For some unknown reason, chocolate bar brown (the name of the acrylic paint) always photographs maroon when I use the digital camera. In real life, Hunts mane and spinal ridge are a dark chocolately brown, not this odd red color. (correcting with photoshop just makes the rest of her funny colors)

The neon sign is supposed to be the one on top of the Raganarok Casino owned by the Gte of Fenris, but I didn't feel like doing the whole darn sign, so it cuts off after the first two letters and a bit of the third. If I send more scukpures to Helsinki, I may finish the rest of the sign, so if someone is lucky enough to win the rest they'll have the whole sign...and it'll glow under black light!
