Hunts-by-Neon, Bonegnawer top dog, overhead view. Hunts was offered as a prize for the Helsinki Fall Equinox brawl.
Overhead view to show the positioning of her arms. Tying the guts on while making the armiture was really difficult. It was eventually done by taking two stips of wire, laying them flat next to each other, then coating them in marking tape. Then they were bent onto the frame of the letters, and sculpted over. Odds of them breaking, about nil. They're reinforced with 20 gauge wire.

Hunts tail is not as short as it appears in this picture, it just curves away from the camera, making it look unusually short. Hunts is technically female, but Garou tend to look rather androgynous in Crinos. And they don't have huge bouncy breasts to indicate gender. Sometimes its hard to tell just by looking.

Lone Wolf has one of the most complicated paint jobs I've ever done, which was done in many, many layers. The white belly and underparts were done first, and then succesive layers of darker shades of brown were painted along the edge. Then he was highlighted in reverese order, the darkest color being dry brushed onto the adjascent shade and so on in each shade. He was then washed in black and highlighted in off white.

I'm very fond of Lone Wolf's expression and positioning, as it changes the mood depending on what angle you're looking at him from. From this view he looks more shocked than anything else. The important thing to note here is which hand has the blood on it. Why does the hand not touching the wound (on the nonvisible side of his face) have blood on it. Answer.... it must have been self inflicted.

This picture unfortunately came out a little fuzzy around the eyes. However the positioning is the important part here, where he looks like he's been cuaght midmovement, flinching away from the upraised paw. The bent arm supporting him really helps with the effect, as a straigth arm would hold him stiff and rigid, rather than like he's still moving.

Lone Wolf Circles gouges his own eye out. Note the hand he's resting his weight on is the one with the blood on it, not the one by his face. Note the gouged eye is also white. He was blind in that eye already. He gouged his eye out so that people would incorrectly assume he'd lost it in a fight, not that he was born with a blind eye. (he's also deaf on the same side) That doesn't mean it was easy to do though, thus the look of shock and pain on his face.

This shows off the way Lone Wolf is sprawled out. I'm very fond of those pose, which happened quite accidentally. I droppedthe armiture while positioning it, and the legs fell in that sprawl. The paint job looks a little busy this close up, but you can view him half finished at http://vcl.ctrl-c.liu.se/vcl/Artists/Fenris-Lorsrai/Sketches/lonewolfsketchinround.jpg and see the body positioned without any facial expression.
The hand by his face came out kind of funny looking. I'm not terribly happy with it, but the rest of the sculpture is great.

Did I mention how much I like Lone Wolf's pose? The roll of the head really please me, and the line of his whole body. The half bent arm he's supporting himself on makes it look like he's being crushed under the weight of the world, or cringing, warding off a blow he thinks is coming. From this underside shot, it also makes him look like he's looking up towards the sky, like asking "why me?" Lone Wolf is my favorite character from the storyline.

Just showing off where his tail is. I find positioning the tail is often one of the hardest parts of the sculpture. The rest, you can put yourself in the position and work from that real life picture, but unless there's artists out there with real tails, you have to guess about the tail.

showing off the painting on his belly and chest. The base is a natural stone which I dug up out of the brook by my home in Connecticut. Putting sculptures on rocks can be tricky because you need to take into account that they need to be to scale with the figure. He's roughly 1/10 to 1/12 life size, so any crystals in the rock have to be imagined 10 times as big. If they'd look stupid that big, pick another rock. This one was chosen because of it looks like a miniture version of much of the glaciar cracked and rubed rock you find in new England.

Mostly this shows the positioning clearly. It also shows the little white star on Speaks forehead thats not visible in most of the pictures. He got the star as he's playing a Stargazer, which are supposed to Eastern mystics. So its a subtle little hint at the third eye used for seeing the mystical. Who knew paint jobs were so symbolic?

From this angle you can see Speaks just starting to turn his body in the direction the spirit is pointing. For some reason he looks walleyed in this picture. The eyes really are pointing in the same direction, the angle is just awfully funky.
You can also see, a little bit fuzzily, that he's got four toes in front and back. Normally, for the Crinos garou, I do five in front as hands, and only three in back. Since he's in Hispo, he's got these great spreding four toed feet instead. The feet are very large and heavy comparitively, sort of a stab at the "like a lynx" I got as part of the original description.

This shows off Speaks marking very well. The description I was given said he was grey and silver and had markings somewhere in between those of a lynx and a wolf. Mostly I took lynx as the key colors, and did wolfish markings. The base coat was white across feet and belly, then antique white, then several shades of grey, and fianlly black brushing across the spine, tail tip and in crosses across the back, hips, and shoulders. The darker sections were dry bushes over the edge into lighter ones to give a transition between the colors instead of distinct markings. The whole thing was heavily washed in black to add depth and make him look a bit dirty and travelworn, then dry brushed in white and silver to give him some extra shine.

In this overhead view you can see the spirits outstretched hand really well, pointing at some distant objective, Speaks' head just turning to look. In other angles you can see his forefeet and legs are positioned to incidate he's just start to change direction.
The hand's a lot less delicate in reality than it appears! There's a "skeleton" of 20 gauge steel wire supporting those fingers. Speaks actually took a tumble off a shelf while I was painting him, crash, under a slate floor. With no damage to the actual sculpture itself. There's a picture in my sketches directory showing the actual damage.

The winner requesting Speaks be shown on Hispo, a sort of giant wolf form, rather than the standard Crinos, manwolf form most of my sculptures are done in. He's also got a more realistic paint job than many other characters. There's about five basic colors making up his fur, two highlighting colors, and a black wash. The spirit's got about four colors, one highlight color and a black wash. The wolf was standard brush work, but the spirits mottled swirling pattern was done by fingerpainting. Yes, fingerpainting. it gave it a nice mottled, swirled pattern that way.

Wrestles-the-Shadow, Uktena werewolf, battles come Banes, view of left side.
His expression isn't visible in this shot, but it does clearly show the positioning of the two spirits, and where his hands are in relation. The right claws at the one coming out of his chest. The left ineffectively grasps at the other Bane as it slips between his claws.
The laid back position was to emphasize the struggle with the thing passing through him. Before the arms and head were done, he rather looked like he was doing the limbo. His back probably should have been more heavily arched.

From this particular angle, he seems to be taking great joy in this whole endeavor. The thing I love most about this sculpture is how different his facial expression appears from different angles.
The sand base, since there's a good view of that in this shot, was done by pressing sand into the Apxie sculpt on the base before it set. This didn't make it sufficiently 'sandy' in some places, so I went back over it with elmer's school glue gel that had some tan acrylic mixed into it, and applied more sand. that's why some portions of the base are darker than others.

the description I was giving of Wrestles was kind of vague, appearance-wise. I was told grey with some brown mixed in, and let he was a mic of Bonegnawer, Silent Strider, and Uktena heritage. So he's got a patchy appearance to his coat. Grey base, black blothing with brown highlights. The eye patch wasn't specified, but just happened somewhat accidentally during painting and really set off his expression well. On the left side of his face, he appears to have a bit of a manic grin, which is set off by that jaunty eye patch. On the right side however he looks far less certain about what's going on.
I'd be worried too if there was an evil spirit emerging from my heart.

There's two banes, but only half of each one is visible in the picture. The one emergign from his chest is the one by his nose, the one in his left hand, that's the tail of the on coiled round his leg.
The black eedging around the eye really sets off the expression so he looks quite uncertain about what's going on from this angle.
