For Crescent Moon from the ACEOfurs exchange group for July.

A small piece of a much bigger whole, what would fit on my scanner at the time. A prarie falcon-based griffin, its attention caught elsewhere.

This is the complete image, not just the truncated version I used for the stamp. It is styled after a malamute, but highly inspired by the wolf-dog connection and the circular symbol represents both a wolf's moon and a northern dog's curled tail.

Tenax Raccoon Badge

A commissioned badge for Tenax, of his very happy green-eyed raccoon taur character.

This is a custom painted drum commission for Ravynwolf. It is painted on a 12" deer hide drum. It has a really high, sweet tone to it, and it's a drum I have been holding onto for over a year, waiting to find it the right owner.
The symbolism of the spiral represents a path, one with a distinct beginning and end, but many curves along the way. It is a very personal-relating symbol. The horse represents strength (standing strong but moving forward), feminine energy, empathy, and emotional wisdom. The blue and water themes are just that; a symbol of life, rejuvination, healing, power, and comfort.
The real version is much more vibrant in color and detail :)

This was a commission piece, the image is painted on a 12" octagon-shaped deer hide drum.
The colors and painting are much softer and more vibrant in reality.

Heron is a symbol of patience and wisdom. Heron people are generally good orators and leaders, powerful speakers and good listeners. Heron medicine teaches people that good things are worth waiting for, when to speak and when to listen.

A commission for my "Heron Dance" Image on a custom shield. I made the shield myself, it's on the high end of sizes I can make right now, at 18" in diameter.

These shields have a surprisingly good tone to them, which I found out by accident, and actually would work well as flat hand-drums. They aren't very loud, but are very deep and rythmic. Good for traveling, too, because they are so flat!

Hondo and Sam's Confiscated Concoction

A custom beer label I created as a gift for my father, in likeness of his two previous K-9 cop partners, Hondo (the brown shepherd) and Sam (the black).

Ok, this is not the sort of piece I would normally do, and I've never drawn a gun or uniform before, so I suppose it warrants a little explanation.

My father was a police officer his entire career, and he worked with the K.9. force through two long-lived canine partners. He traveled the country and won many national awards for his excellence in the field, and he worked also as a S.W.A.T. officer, called in when they needed the dog for special work.
I don't know if my dad realizes what a big influence he had on me, and how much I admire what he devoted to his career.
So here's Hondo - his second partner, with his usual attitude - if only he stood on two legs and could carry a gun. ;)

The Horse, the Wolf, and the Oats

A collaborative piece between Thornwolf and myself - she sketched the image and I painted it.

A wolf, rambling through a field of oats, meets a horse. “Look,” says the wolf, “Here is a fine field of oats, which I have saved just for you. I shall greatly enjoy the thought of such a fine friend enjoying such a fine feast.” The horse replied, “If wolves could eat oats, my fine friend, you would not have indulged your mind at the cost of your belly.”

There is no virtue in giving away what is useless to oneself.

I love african hunting dogs, their big ears and spotty coloration is just wonderful.

Porcine Sea Monster

I have an affinity for boars (and their feral cousins) and was struck the other day by the idea of a hippocampus-type boar creature. This is the end result of that, a red river hog/koi mix.
I want to do a boar next!

"Ikkakujuu Einhorn"
The little girl looked up with dark eyes, almond shaped pools of wonder. Breathlessly, letting the whisper roll off her lips with languid awe, she mouthed one word. "Unicorn". The creature dropped its head to her outstretched hand and met her gaze. "Unicorn?" it asked, arching a feathered brow. "Have you no idea what I am?"

I had a dream last night about a kirin and a little girl. I woke up with an itch to draw the creature. I rarely use red like this, and I wanted the challenge of trying a warm color scheme. 8 1/2 x 11", watercolor, acrylic and india ink on illustration board.

I know, I know... I don't usually do anything cartoony but now and again its fun. :)
A collaborative tribute to the Pokemon dynasty - I drew this little guy and my husband, Mbala, colored him. It’s a binturong posing as an ivysaur.
It just sounded better than bulbaturong. ;)

Kalak - Maned wolf pendant

The kalak, or maned wolf, isn't actually a wolf- it's not closely related to any currently living canines at all! Though it is sometimes called a 'fox on stilts', it is not a fox either.
This was a custom designed pendant where the commissioner requested some coloration on the glyph image. I think it turned out really fantastically in person!

This pendant was a commission for Canislupusfrax, who was a wonderful commissioner to work with!
