The soft red glow blossomed briefly in the dim light, crawling up the length of the cigarette as the collie inhaled. A pause, and it exhaled smoke in twin streams through its nostrils, blue-grey smoke dancing and eddying in the gently disturbed air. Long brown-skinned fingers pinched the cigarette, holding it poised in front of the dog's thin lips. "They're always there," the collie said slowly, in a low and raspy sleep-deprived voice.

It glanced to the side, its face illuminated in the lamplight for a moment. Older than it appeared in silhouette; creased skin framed its glazed eyes, patches of thinned fur speckled its long snout. Its heavy-lidded gaze returned to me, level and unblinking, as it replaced the cigarette in its mouth.

so, in an art rut, I opened up Photoshop and iTunes, grabbed my tablet, turned on my playlist and decided to sketch crap inspired by the lyrics playing. "I Think I'll Disappear Now" by Crash Test Dummies made this one pop out, and I liked it enough to colour

a concept sketch type thing for Halo armor on Iatro's griffin form. I went with the Elite's armor because that is my favoured skin in Halo 2 multiplayer ... and the helmet works a lot better on a bird's head.
