Image for VCL "Class Photo"\r\nKitsune is 2002 Jonathan Roth

This is an old picture, but I'm finally alowed to upload it. This is my younger brother's (now long-defunct) red panda character, Tabasco. He was also to serve as the animated mascot for a cooking show plot he was working on, but has since let that lapse.

Cheyene, Delahaye and Avanti of FurryMUCK. The Nissan in this image was given to me as photoreference. When I finished the gift, I discovered the player of these three had recently come into ownership of this exact car (in white), customized to the f***ing _GILLS_. Unfortunately, it was in storage for the winter, so I couldn't get a ride in it. Shucks...\r\n\r\nArtistic note: I think this will be the last time I use this heavily Photoshop "Super Cel" color style, so I can focus on improving my color technique. Besides... I got markers for christmas! =D

Image: DJ-Joy.jpg 600x829 155304 bytes 2002.01.25

My Christmas card this year: Joy. Featuring the most recent "forest critter" design of Dope, Jazz and the rest. All characters are (c) Jonathan Roth.

Part of a christmas card and gift to the folks back home, friends, and the cast of Fuz Comics. Clockwise, from top center: Me, Orcinus, Bahumat, Shaka, Slicky, Jia (holding Monica), Rei, Shanti_Wolf, Duke, CleverFox, and Maskwa. There;s about another 10-20 other furs in Edmonton, but i figured I'd stick with the ones i knew when I left.

Ok, this was fun. One pretty, and non-typical femme otter, 3 unusual animals, Multiple implied puns, and two movie references. Not bad for an underwater adaptation of those old poker paintings. ;D For sale at AnthroCon.

Image: talinbarnweb.JPG 684x408 78057 bytes 2001.07.24

Commission for Talin of FM: Five lovely ladies restoring a mirror found in an old barn. This may be on sale as prints, depending on interest. Hope you enjoy!

Image: spiderbattle.JPG 800x581 154141 bytes 2001.07.24

Not quite my usual subject matter. This was on commission for Vega Altair. Some warriors try and fend off the demon spider that has been feeding off the girls of the village. It dosen't seem to be their day; who will emerge victorious?!

Image: platbutton.JPG 232x235 27806 bytes 2001.07.24

It's me! Platinum of FurryMUCK. Keep an eye out for me at AnthroCon, I'll be wearing this on a button.

Grasscutter Revisited. I've always loved traditional Japanese prints. You can not only see the same stylistic unity, much like other pre-rennaisance forms, but also shows a tremendous vitality. This was also an excuse to play around with pure brush and ink, and with the handmade papers. I'm really happy how this turned out. For sale at AnthroCon.

Image: LAIKA.JPG 400x507 72843 bytes 2001.07.24

Translation: Laika She wants you! Join the soviet space military!\r\n\r\nFun with styles. Russian Propaganda. For sale at Anthrocon. Hope you like!

Image: Ivy_Rose_Xp.jpg 600x769 81631 bytes 2001.06.18

An experiment in using alternate papers. This is a handmade paper that includes rose petals and grass in the press, which helped influence the idea and the layout of the drawing. However, the inked background drowned out the character, so I had to watercolor her to bring her back to focus. It turned out alright, but I don't think this will work as a marketable piece for the Anthrocon Art show. I have a few other papers I'm playing with as well, so I'll upload those when I'm ready. More art will come in the next week, as work calms down and commissions finish up. =)

After Ambush sketch: Draw yourself as a king! Since i was busy finishing Amy's memorial picture, I did this one as an fter ambush sketch. \r\n

Amy Diane Evernham and I met on FurryMUCK, and fell in love. Although we had deep feelings for each other, the relationship we had was one of the strangest I've ever encountered. Still, she was the spirit of kindness itself, and a FurryMUCK helpstaffer. She was smart, funny, brave, and so very sexy. \r\nOn May 21, 1997, she died without warning of a respiratory blood clot. To this day, although my feelings fer her have always been true, and I have had ample proof that she existed, I still have not seen her face. The conflicting feelings about our relationship, and the pain of losing someone so perfect has kept me from honoring her. This is the first time I've drawn a public image of her... the original letters I wrote with her character sketches were placed in her coffin by our mutual friend, Buretin. \r\n\r\nShe deserved so much more...

Image: Harvest.JPG 288x450 41588 bytes 2001.04.24

Ok, this almost counts as a 'sketch'. This vixen took only 2 hours from thought to finish; my personal record. Harvest Gold is (c) myself.

Image: Jiafinal.JPG 640x465 61669 bytes 2001.04.24

Jia, a good friend of mine, and the RL/VL Significant Other of Dion "Rei" Turner. She was complaining that no-one drew here character, so I had to do something about that. She's a 'Dramon' half dragon, half human, able to become either at will.

Image: hardlessons.jpg 600x398 70763 bytes 2001.03.31

A young apprentice must learn a hard lesson about the true nature of healing when a childhood friend is seriously ill. Will she learn the true value of being a healer to her community, or will she learn that sometimes you simply can't save them all? This is an original 10 by 15 watercolor painting for sale at FurryBid. If you like it, you can own it. =)

Image: shantibike.jpg 600x667 90530 bytes 2001.03.31

For Shanti_Wolf on IRC, a friend of mine from back in Edmonton. It's a polaroid photgraph of Shanti the dragon-wolf on her custom chopped Harley. Fun little way to make a poorly centered original look right. ;D

Image: foxgym.gif 335x424 23581 bytes 2001.03.31

Original inked drawing of an unusually buff male fox advertising his gym. Why don't you come by and get pumped? Heh, it's a tame image though. He's covered by his logo. This was done to satisfy a well-meaning friend who wanted me to make sucme FurryBid bucks. =) \r\n

Image: tanyatrade.jpg 600x394 59721 bytes 2001.03.31

It's another art trade! This one is for Opal Weasel, who drew Platinum in return. You can see his great sketch back at under the Guest Art section! Thanks Hellenic!

Image: transketch.gif 600x412 57341 bytes 2001.03.31

Before I started drawing Furry critters, I drew dragons. I guess this is me getting back to my roots. Trantalin Darksbane, a draconic warrior, and one of my oldest recurring characters. (c) me, therefore.

Image: lavawing.jpg 381x528 81587 bytes 2001.03.31

Probably my last pokemorph pic. I intended to have two 'teams' up, but ennui got the best of me. Besides, I named the Ninetails-vixen 'Firefoot' after an old video game character, then discovered the name was being used by an artist on here. Out of respect for her talents I shall not post it. =,

Image: mocha.gif 702x499 97090 bytes 2001.03.31

Mochaccina, HollyAnn R'ela'h's Wox-folf mutt peasant vixen. A tragic figure, don't you think? The art trade with HollyAnn was goin to be with Pantera Atra-u but I sketched this one up quick enough to make it a free extra. The Pantera picture will come in a week or so. To see Hollyann's picture, check out my site at

Image: racspic.gif 400x552 96881 bytes 2001.03.31

A commissioned inked drawing for a local couple, Mitch and Maury. I believe the characters are Racs and Whitefur, but I might be mistaken. They are, however, still copyrighted to their players.

Image: valentine.JPG 400x437 39437 bytes 2001.02.15

o/~ My funny Valentine... o/~ It was either this, or be angsty and alone. This was more constructive, i think. =) Dedicated to my friends at the Studio Les Artists on FurryMUCK.

Image: pitch.jpg 558x751 81736 bytes 2001.02.11

Alright folks, I admit it, I have a Tapestries Character! Pitch is a Dreamwraith, a creature that enters the waking world through strong dreams. Pitch is a bit of a kleptomaniac, as well as a roving artist and storyteller. In either male or female form, Pitch wears clothing of small patches, made from what they could scrouge, steal or afford.

Image: sphere.gif 536x620 41007 bytes 2001.02.11

An interesting individual I met while on Taps. A shapeshifter. The natural form is the bubble, this cat is appaently one of it's more popular forms. She/he/it liked it. =)

Image: conte_vixen.JPG 500x688 129292 bytes 2001.02.11

And Now for Something Completely Different (OK, no, not really): Vixen a la Conte. I love working with this stuff. Expect more in the future.

I moved from Edmonton, Alberta to Portland, Maine around Mid November. While this was a good move for me in almst every way, It meant having to leave friends both old and new in a hurry, just before my birthday and Christmas. I just finished coloring the sucker today. Lyrics should be a treat for the Canucks in the audiance. =,

Another creature from Dougal Dixon's"After Man: A zoology of the future." "After Man" combines good science with BEAUTIFUL artwork. This is a Truteal, a blind insectivore (The dark spots are nostrils). Creatures are 1981 Dougal Dixon. In case I haven't made it clear, you should go find yourself a copy of this book. ;D
