Something I've been working on over the past few days, thought I'd post a work in progress... I need to finish all the grass, and the character, of course. And some finishing touches, I think probably a little more work on the sky.

So far my only off-topic upload, so I hope it is okay... this is a sketch for my parents of a commission for their Christmas card for this year... The idea is Christmas as a state of mind... inside it looks and feels like Christmas, while outside its not exactly a White Christmas...

Having lived in Los Angeles for the greater part of my life, this was (if not literally) a reality for me... as we had no snow. The living room interior is supposed to look like one part of my parents living room at home, as I remember it...

I don't normally upload doodles, but I thought this one was irresistible. I did this on an envelope while Noriko was cooking beans and cheese, and I just had the sudden urge to draw a bumble bee, which turned out to be the cutest bee I've ever drawn.

The sketch portion of a piece I have just started - Echo the genet feeding koi in a koi pond/japanese garden. I shall now proceed the coloring process, in which I shall attempt to be very patient and very detail conscious. Since I definately wont be able to finish this in one sitting, I will probably be doing more work in progress scans, I dont know if there is any interest in that.. but hey. Echo is © Kacey Miyagami PS. I tried to clean up the scan after severely 'leveling' it with Photoshop - hence the dark fish at the bottom. The truth is that I just draw too darned light ^.^

pebbles colored first.... just because thats the part I chose to start with ^.^.. Colored with marker, colored pencil and acrylic ink. Moving on....

I couldnt mess with the levels too much with this scan because it needed to be in true color to show the way the pebbles look.

And a bit more... done with watercolor as a base instead of markers like I did with the pebbles. the distant rocks are painted in only with watercolor at the moment, though they will be subtly shaded with pencils later. I have a feeling I am going to be completing the upper part of the background first, so that I can partially mirror it in the water afterwards. I like to finish little areas one bit at a time - rather than working up the whole thing slowly as a whole - I tend to be able to retain more patience that way.

And some more... I hope its not too pale - I wanted some atmoshperic perspective. I suppose I could always darken it if need be later.

Now the sky, the fish and some of the pond... with some minor reflections from the objects in the foreground... Now all there is to do is the rest of the pond - which will be reflections .. and the character and her clothing. Once that is done I will do finishing touches on the areas of the piece that require unifying. The sky/clouds were done in marker and colored pencil, the dark water of the pond done in marker and colored pencil, and the fish and reflections done in colored pencil.

This is a pencil sketch of an in-progress piece, of a '55 Thunderbird, parked on a bluff on the Sausalito side overlooking the Golden Gate bridge. The size of the piece is 24"x36", and it is on illustration board, and drawn in pencil. So far the work has taken approximately 8 hours. I plan on finishing the piece in acrylic paints, and possibly other media if the need presents itself.

I'm very excited, and at the same time daunted by undertaking this task... as it is a major challenge for me, but a hurdle I must overcome... A large painting, depending entirely on scenery, mechanics, and architecture.. my weakest points.

A horse anatomy study... unfinished and rough - heck, I didn't even sign it ^.^,

A couple of anatomy errors were pointed out about my "Perfume" piece, and so I thought I'd polish up my horse anatomy with a study sketch =). I think it did me some good... I think the legs and the tail were the parts I was 'fuzziest' on.

Pendant concept

This is a quick sketch of a pendant concept I designed, and was hoping to get custom made for myself. Unfortunately, the design is apparently complex and out of my price range to have made =(.

Rising Moon (sketch)

A sketch I did tonight. Its been a long while since I've drawn a realistic werewolf.

For colors, I'm envisioning a grey wolf with a gold moon... I'm looking forward to painting all the fur texture and patterning.

Posting a sketch since I've gotten comments from people wishing to see more in-progress pics. ^.^

Pencil on illustration board.

Okay, here is draft 2... I got a lot of really good comments and suggestions for alterations - many of them I used, but some of them I did not (sorry!) - but I considered all of them, and may use the ones I didn't use here on other pieces later on - Most of the suggestions I didn't use would have required a full re-draw. I like her movement a lot better now, and the background wall area I feel works a lot better as well. The trick now will be to get the depth really going through the color =).

A work in progress - the idea behind the piece is a clouded leopard female in ancient China, practicing swordplay. Inspired by Hong Kong swordfighting films such as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and Hero. I am planning on coloring the piece as if it is raining where she is. Dramatic lighting, pools of water collecting around the stones at her feet, small splashes and such. (Firelight coming through the temple windows, perhaps to counterbalance all the blues and greys)

Feedback and critique would be most appreciated. I may not take all critique suggestions, but I would like to hear and consider, and possibly use them.
