Dogs yell "MEL!"

He sits in a small, dark room with a single light bulb struggling to cut through the cold, lonely darkness; sadness envelopes him, he thinks dark thoughts, he is utterly alone.
What has lead to such an inner darkness?
Is there some hope to come from the feeble amount of light
cast upon him?
Is someone intently observing him through a window pane? He’s vaguely aware of the cold cement against his tan-blonde fur; his heart, it seems, barely beating as it’s held in a vice-like grip.
Is he in the devastation of a jilted lover, or did he find himself eating too many pickled beets in the vegetable cellar, slumping over with a sick tummy?
. . . we may never know the real answer.
