I drew this in the Seatac airport while watching people-- even babies, getting scanned by metal detecting wands watched closely by the eye of bomb sniffing dogs.

A new character. A simple housecat, I suppose. This is one of the first drawings I did of him. His fur is black with blue-grey points (ears, face, paws, tailtip). His name is Spikah.

More often than not my life feels dull and meaningless. My apathy leads to nothing good. But my motivation often leads me to failure because what little expectations I have for myself are too high. And I'm never willing to lower them.

My entry for the VCL's January Competition. My characters Mukilteo and Matrices before and after. Yeah... so I've had 3 years to improve (drawing skills)... but have they changed? heh heh heh.

A Greek vase design assignment I did for my Art History class. I used the banding styles from the Orientalizing period. The figure (Matrices) I just threw on there last minute. It doesnt go with the orientalizing style, but whatever, I still got full credit, even though I half-assed it.

I bought prismacolor markers and was experamenting with them combined with prismacolor pencils. This was my little experimental picture.
His head is gigantic, the anatomy is way off.

Just a ballpoint pen doodle. I started with the mouth and did the rest of the head. No pencil undersketch (except for when I was trying to decide on where the eye should be placed, which I did last)
He kind of looks like he's either yawning, or laughing, or in pain or maybe yelling.. heh.

New_Matrices_Mask.jpg

The New Matrices mask, all finished. Its almost too big for my head, unfortunately. I had to pad the inside so it would stay put. The nose is foam rubber stuff, the rest is fake fur, I had to dye the fur grey, thats why it appears a few different shades. I tried to make it blend as well as I could.

PaperMacheCharacterMasks.jpg
Image: PaperMacheCharacterMasks.jpg   696x731 133648 bytes 2002.10.11

I make a mask every year for halloween, this began in 1999 (when I made a mask of Mukilteo).
The "old" Matrices mask was made with flour and water paper mache, with corrugated cardboard to shape her nose and ears. The Odium mask I used wheat paste and water paper mache, plus watered down glue, with cereal box-type cardboard to shape his nose and ears and styrafoam to make his tusks.
This year my "new" Matrices mask uses just cereal box-type cardboard and watered down glue. and its stronger and lighter than the other two masks pictured. I plan to cover it in faux fur like the others as well.
I've been trying to redesign Matrices so she is easier to draw, sculpt, etc. specifically just her ears and how they behaive. Usually I draw them folded back, which is reminiscent of when I was learning how to draw and couldnt draw ears, so it was simpler to just have them folded back (which became part of her and Mukilteo's characters) So I'm trying to break out of that, but still keep it as Matrices, instead of /completely/ redesigning her. So I've made her ears look more relaxed rather than rigid & erect like Odium's, or lazily folded back like the "old" style.
If I have any left over fur I plan to make paws & a tail to complete the look. Although fursuiting doesn't interest me other than on halloween or possibly to a convention or a party, its really a fun process to make your own mask. I obviously like talking about how I do it, and look forward to creating a new one every year. (and sorry for such a long description)

This was an assignment for my college class, where I had to draw a "still life" (even though this is my dog petunia. she was still, and she was life, so that was good enough for me) using one continuous line on my paper to trace all the contours of what was in front of me. And I couldnt lift the pencil off my paper, I had to find another way across the paper to keep it on the page.

Here's a tablet drawing of the tanned bobcat's face I used to have sitting above my monitor. The "eye" was the lens of my webcam.

Meet Roy, he's a wolf, er, well the wolf character I made up for him at least. His mother said it wasn't "noble" enough. Whatever, its a cartoon, what do you expect?? :P
