One of a race of reptillian creatures I've been bandying about for a while. The race is known as the Chalim, or, translated, the singers. They sing with their headspikes, which are hollow and have a tube running to the lungs. The writing above and below him (yes, it's a male) reads "Sech'kasano Avala'kechir'ko," or "Sech the hatchling, son of Avala (his mother) and Kechir (his father)." The drawing and lettering suck -- I think I messed up somewhere with the letters -- but I like this piece. Chala (c) 2000 Melissa Stanley

A zirena, one of the food animals the Chalim keep. It is used for its meat, milk (its milk glands are under the wings) and for its eggs. Zirenim can be very vicious, so those who look after them must be especially wary.
