Cizkaro's char (c) to Ciz himself, art (c) Pshaw, 2004. Ink and Prisma markers on bristol. This piece has a long and checkered history, including being stolen, lost, partially bug-eaten, and finally, finished and posted on VCL for you, the furry public. I'm doing this noirish, artsy thing where I crop off parts of the character and use this moody grayscale.

Believe it or not, I've been working on this since March. Not full time, though. I'd started it as a submission for the MFM t-shirt contest, but I never sent it in. Life gets in the way, you know. Technical pens and watercolor on bristol, Sept. 2004, (c) Pshaw.

I've always wanted to paint something cool on the back of my biker jacket. The total working time here was about twenty hours, not including the initial sketch. Acryllics with iridescent medium on leather. December 2003. Listening to: "Cold Mountain" soundtrack and Jerry Jeff Walker, "Great Gonzos." (c) Jessie Thomas

This one took some time to finish, but I won't get into all the stalls and pitfalls here. The original measures 14 x 14 inches, and had to be scanned in four sections. What's going on is Syrris, the lion with the plate of fish, builds mechanical gryphons, one of which is Steelclaw there on the left. He's just given her a sense of smell, and she's checking out the scents of all the foods, while Pshaw helps herself to some stuffed mushrooms. Sept. - Dec. 2003

My Christmas card art for the year! Finally. Emile the Red-Nosed Gator wishes you a happy holiday! Dec. 2003

Collect them all! I reworked this from a marker drawing I'd done in 2001, though it's a bit late out of the gate, since they don't make a certain brightly-colored computer anymore. They all come in white now. Watercolor and pencil. Dec. 2003.

Not much to say about this one, but aiming for a "cleaner" inking style than I normally have. Also unusual in that I did this all on one sheet of paper. Normally I transfer sketches I like onto fresh paper for inking. The black bar at the bottom is an intentional part of the composition. Nov. 2003.

Just a technical-pen portrait of Floyd Mephit of Texas. The bike in nominally a Harley, but it's just my usual schizophrenic mish-mash of machinery. There's one major thing wrong with it, can you spot it?
561x750 97212 bytes 2003.08.31
An updated "Down and Out," since the previous one dates from 2001. My drawing skills have improved somewhat since then. ;> I use this on my Furbid auction page, and have a saved copy with no text, so I can put whatever witty remarks I like on the sign. Mixed media, blah blah blah, August 2003.

More Cassie fun, this piece from March or thereabouts. Mixed media, and a pose I struggled mightily with. Cassie (c) Earl "Foxonian" Bacon, art by Me.

Prisma portrait of Steelwing, the mechanical Golden Eagle, who's (c) himself. He uses this as a LJ icon. :> (c) Pshaw, April 2003.

A mother Peregrine Falcon and her nestling. Baby birds are sort of ugly, huh? Mother's Day 03 illustration - watercolor and pencil. Prints available - email me to find out more.

Ah, I'm very pleased with how she's come out! A test-flight for some new techniques and what seems to be a new style I'm evolving, as I said, I'm delighted. Hope you are, too. This naughty gryphoness is mixed acryllics, watercolors, and pencil, leaning on a watercolor stone wall. (c) Me, April 2003.

Vicki Fox ( (c) Mike Russell) goes to visit south Louisiana during Mardi Gras for gumbo and good times! Of course, if you're eating Pshaw's gumbo, you're eating the best. Not that I brag on myself or anything. Seriously mixed media (as in I used everything in my art box) on board. January 2003.
546x900 56162 bytes 2003.04.12
Personal drawing, for my own amusement (I'm going to hell, I'm sure of it), a pregnant nun Gator. Mixed media, (c) Pshaw, April 2003.

Nauta Sinneau strips for some skinny-dipping at the beach. This is watercolor and some pencil work on board, with Photoshop tweaking, I'm very pleased with it. Shorts by PhinSkins, surfboard by Local Motion, and artwork by Pshaw. Nauta is (c) hirself. (nauta.lostweyr.org) Orcan Industries Shipyards.

Commission for CyBear and Morningstar, a cybernetic Polar Bear and a Dimar Dragon, respectively. Each character is the (c) of their players. The usual mixed media suspects, March 03. I like the color scheme here.

She came out of the Texas desert to get revenge for her fellow 'dillers, squashed on the nation's highways by careless human drivers. SUV owners, beware!! Mixed media and Photoshop, March 2003. Sketch originally done, May 2002.

Love is in the air! Or is that the odor of a decaying cow? Either way, romance blossoms between these Turkey Vultures, my Valentine's Day card for 2003. My buzzard love lovein'! Graphite and pencil on sketch paper, Feb. 2003.
555x825 70950 bytes 2003.01.05
Yay, it's everyone's favorite sexy vixen-herm, Xial Lunashine! Mixed media on heavy paper with CG effects laid on (smudging and such). Xial is (c) hirself, and the art is mine, of course. January 2003.
585x800 137614 bytes 2002.12.31
This was a commission done for Foxonian, of his character, Cassie the Rock 'n Roll Vixen. You can look at his collection of other Cassie fan-art and stories at www.cassietherockvixen.furtopia.org/. Mixed media on illustration board, December 2002. Cassie is (c) Earl "Foxonian" Bacon

Aww, isn't she sweet? Maybe not quite as pure as your regular unicorn. This spun off from sketches I was doing for a commission and took on a life of her own. Ink with CG coloring, December 2002.
567x600 200530 bytes 2002.10.12
No one seems to want to buy this, so I'm stuck with it. That's okay, I like it well enough, but it's actually quite large, twelve inches square or so. Mixed media on illustration board, March 2002.
447x450 80103 bytes 2002.10.12
I did this for a mail art call on the theme "Books2Eat". Marker and ink on toned paper, March 2002.

Made for Expandranon, after those little warning signs on the sides of trucks. Pen and ink, heavy computer work. Auagust 2002.
466x600 192365 bytes 2002.06.16
Another piece done for a mail art project, this one was "A Pride of Leos" notebook. I couldn't think of anything great and profound to write about being a Leo, so I drew a picture. Markers and technical pens on sketch paper, mounted on heavy colored paper.
603x900 522998 bytes 2002.05.20
The "aged" version of Swandog's portrait. That means the noise and sepia tint are supposed to be there, it's like a vintage picture. Swandog (c) Xenia Arrick. May 2002
603x900 320681 bytes 2002.05.20
This is part of a trade with everyone's favorite Honk-woof, Swandog! Her Saluki-Swan Gryph is (c) Xenia Arrick, art is, of course, (c) me. Technical pens on drawing paper. This is the standard version, and since the pose was inspired by a pose in a vintage photo, there's a tinted "Vintage" version of this. May 2002
675x668 134851 bytes 2002.04.12
This image was inspired by a dream. I got up that morning and sketched it out, so please don't crucify me on the details of the armor or anything, I tried to be true to the image I had in my head. I also decided *not* to re-size the wings, since at this size they worked better in the composition. Mixed media on illustration board, original sketch done Feb. 12, 2002.
543x750 123232 bytes 2002.04.01
"May all beings be free from fear." In the end, I decided against coloring this piece, I like the ink work too much. This was drawn from a Tibetan sculpture of Kuan Yin, and I have no idea who the original artist was. Of course, their Kuan Yin was human, but I didn't let that stand in my way. Besides, Cats at rest bring meditation to mind. Technical pen on sketch paper, March 2002.
