Resolution Interrupted

Normally I try to keep a seperate set of artworks on my VCL and FurAffinity galleries, but since this recent FA submission has some bearing on future events in the comic, I figured it should go here too.

A more detailed description of the image itself is on my FurAffinity page (same username), but you can get the gist of it by reading her body language, and the note she's writing.

The Perfect Pumpkin (muddy)

Alternate version of my (still) extremely mild Halloween pic for 2007. Tina carts home a jack-o-lantern candidate from a pick-it-yourself field that apparently was part quagmire. Those platform maryjanes came in handy, didn't they? More detailed description at the [Comment] link.

Sausage Factory!

Round about the time Y! Gallery banned anthropomorphic artwork , a lot of yaoi artists flocked to FurAffinty, with the result being a lot of "sausage" being posted.

So I depiced FA as a 'sausage factory' running full-speed overtime way into the night, where Bastien and Cynthia stare and wonder.

Cynthia experiences an oft-used phrase here come to life. Sorry, but I've seen it used so often that it just begged to be illustrated. One of the few images I completed in 2002 in anticipation of getting an account here.

The Scanner Ate my Pic

This used to be a common claim on VCL. I made fun of it back in 2003.

Then in 2007, I resurrected the pic and colored it like I was using Illustrator. Only without Illustrator. Or Photoshop. This required a process so long-winded you'll have to follow the [Comment] link to learn more about it :)

Prior to my hooking up with VCL, I spent a year and a half crafting a comic (now on my website) that explained how my characters, which pre-date my knowledge of fandom by up to a decade, came to appear here. Here, 'Tatiana' is depicted the way she appeared in the comic. A color version, as well as similar depictions of the remaining cast is slated for the near future.

After I posted the B/W version of this pic, I noticed that I had not drawn her jacket the way it appeared in the comic. So, after redrawing the necessary details, I present my latest attempt to re-acquaint myself with digital color. The base color of her jeans were color/textured using a photographic sample.

Tina loves platform shoes. But a quirk of hers is she gets a kick out of slogging through gooey mud in them (the platforms let her go deeper without getting any in them). Continuing where the last comic left off, she's about to do the dirty deed to a pair of maryjanes you can see by Googling "Demonia Sin" (just so you know I'm not exaggerating the ones in the pic--and yes, the style name is just a coincidence). Up to seven more pics are slated to follow this one before the next comic.

Second of a series of 8.

Tina walks out into the mud, apparently pleased at the wide margin of protection her platform shoes are affording her. It's a pretty good bet she's going to go further.

3rd of 8.

A few steps further, and Tina is in deep enough to have to pull hard to overcome the mud's suction on each step. Never mind her expression though, she's getting a substantial thrill out of this. And as a bonus she still hasn't gotten any mud inside the shoes yet.

So far, the hardest part of these pics has proven to be coloring the mud and the footprints she's leaving in it. The pencils and inks for the whole series was done in September, but I only decided to go ahead with completing and posting them shortly before the first was posted.

4 of 8.

Originally these pics were going to have captions of Tina's thoughts, self-narrating why she gets such a kick out of slogging through the muck. At this point she would've been describing to the viewer what a thrill she's getting standing in almost eight inches of gooey muck wearing only maryjanes, (of all things), and still hasn't gotten any mud inside them, thanks to their massive platform soles.

I've been experimenting with ways to improve the shading, highlights and outlines of the eyes. I may actually be on to something.

5th in a series of 8, and first pic I've completed in '05

Now more confident in her shoes' ability to handle the mud (remember those massive platforms hidden in the muck), Tina ventures into an area even wetter (evidenced by the pools of standing water), and sinks in just a little bit more.

Number 6 of 8 (but only 7 being posted)

In case you forgot just how big those platforms were...
Tina, momentarily off balance when her left foot sinks a little further than expected as her weight shifts to it.

In the course of trying to depict her mud-caked right shoe, I may have inadvertently learned how to draw a very wet surface. I wonder what that may be useful for, hmm...?

(yeah, I know--pr0n :D) Anyway,

#8 Conclusion.

Having successfully crossed the mud, Tina takes a seat on solid ground, displaying the mess she's made of her shoes. Just as intended, she made it across without getting any inside her shoes.

#7 in the series was skipped since the original intent was to let her bog down past the tops of the shoes, after which she'd go for broke and keep slogging forward till she reached dry land. When time came to color these, the conclusion was altered, leaving it an orphan.

And yes, the 'panty shot' was an entirely unplanned detail.

That was Foul, Yo!

Cynthia assured Tanya that it was OK to cross that huge slush puddle. After all, she's wearing the same boots and standing in the deepest part with no effect whatsoever.

However, she didn't tell her about wrapping her feet in plastic bags before slipping into those boots. I think that was intentional, since zippered boots usually aren't waterproof :)
