6 of diamonds picture for the Fur of Hearts card deck. I have my doubts as to whether the project will come to fruition, but it seemed like a decent way to get me drawing again. The original piece is 5" by 7".

The second part of the Greetings from America project, a set of 4 X 6 inch images meant to look like old window decals. Well, sort of like old window decals, I mean, if you think *this* green is screaming, imagine if I had to stick with the old four-color printing process, it would be the limest of the limes.\r\n\r\nI sure hope that southern ladies (belles?) hold their hand fans like that, 'cause that's the way I drew it.

Layin' out on the porch swing with an ice cold bottle of No Label beer, I tell ya, it jes' don' get any better than this.

And finally, the cover. Featuring the "tourist decal" mini-prints that I made for this portfolio. Once again, that URL is:\r\n\r\n

Conbadge for a fictional character. Won't you please hire me to a conbadge for a real character? That is to that represents an actual person...never mind, go bid:\r\n\r\n

And then there's the lovely Marla. ;) So just why *do* all our human-animal combinations always gotta have an animal head and a human body and animal feet and human hands and etc.? Huh, teacher, huh?\r\n\r\nOh, and all those folks who claim that genetically engineered anthromorphs are just a few years away should accept that the scientists in charge of it will probably create a lot of these poor creatures before they get anything aesthetically pleasing.

I promised myself I'd do a Halloween picture in time for Halloween this year. So here it is, for those of you for which it is still technically Halloween. Arr.

Squirrelo bandito. Ground squirrel, too, because I'm all original and stuff (and there aren't many trees in the Mexican deserts). Inspired by the Daily Show (long story), and drawn in sepia conte on a nifty piece of cardboard that I got in a wall calendar about two years ago.

Guess I never uploaded the bage I made for Further Confusion this year. Anyway, here it is. An improved version is now up as the logo of my web site.

Image: badgepoly.jpg   260x349 42422 bytes 2006.07.22

I wanted to get this one done for Further Confusion back in January, but due to schedule problems, didn't. I'll still wear it if I go to another con, but I'm afraid that by that point, the sell-by date on this particular bit of pop culture will have passed (if it hasn't already). Oh well.

Thinkin' 'bout the times we drove in my car, thinkin' that I might have drove you too far...\r\n\r\nAnyway, this is an example conbadge I whipped up for my conbadge auction (buy! buy!), which I'll probably never use because I may never go to a fur con again, and also because I got a better idea for a badge for me if I ever do go.

Image: basque.jpg   400x521 31738 bytes 2003.05.15

Look, I'm being cultural. A Basque lynxess (Spanish lynx) does a traditional Basque dance in Basque clothing. The pose was adapted from a photo of my former next-door neighbor.

Inspired by an online conversation, and revealing one of my guilty pleasures: coloring with purple. I may have sacrificed some artistic effect to realism by modeling the teeth after photos of fox skulls I saw on the internet (instead of making them interlace perfectly gap-less), but oh well, I should hope the effect is still unnerving enough.

In the nineties, there seemed to be a lot of bands with girl bassists. Maybe this is due to some hormonal inclination of females to bass instruments, but my theory is that there is something sexy about a girl holding a disproportionately large instrument and deftly running her fingers over the strings to produce music. There's a certain girl bassist I used to know whom I thought of when I drew this, but the initial inspiration was actually the girl bassist in Scb, the garage band on the show Home Movies. Mmmm, poorly drawn cartoon hottie...I need a date.

Sort of a for-fun drawing of two skunk characters, sort of a Daria & Jane pairing. Changed the name of the red one back to Carmen (I wanted Carmine badly, but it turns out to be a somewhat common Italian male name), and actually put clothes on her this time.

Reupload due to recent edit. I was never happy with the way the grass turned out on this picture. Recently, I got my hands on some acrylic paints for another project, and decided to apply them here. I still think I should have made the grass larger relative to her, but nonetheless, I think this picture looks ten times better than before.

A particular sort of Pirate (colored)

Colored (and mirrored, and...erected) version of my pirate drawing from last year. Original will be on sale at FC in January.

Another commission, this one features Dali, a red wolf, and a pack llama. I looked at photos of red wolves before drawing this, and I still came out with something bright and unrealistic (but not dissatisfying to the commissioner, thankfully). Plus, the scan didn't catch all the yellow bunch grass, so the background is missing an element. Well, you win some, you lose some.\r\n\r\nDali is her player.

Image: deadeye.jpg   407x562 78989 bytes 2003.05.15

Parts of this I'm proud of, parts of it make me cringe (the mystical ball of mystical red/pink flame, mostly). It also highlights my main problem with doing free art for people, and that is that when folks don't have to pay, they don't feel the need to put any effort into having an interesting or aesthetically pleasing character. This is a silly mishmash of disparate elements. Plus, the requester pulled the old disappearing act on me, without so much as a thank you. Well, that only had to happen twice for me to say "Screw you guys, I'm goin' hayome," and start charging for any time I felt like doing somebody else's crap (this was early 2000, btw).\r\n\r\nDeadeye is some flake...I mean, her player. \r\n

Image: eclipsd.jpg   500x500 31509 bytes 2005.10.31

Of course this is on-topic, they're *anthropomorphic* celestial bodies! :D

Image: errick.jpg   371x528 45671 bytes 2003.05.15

Actually, this may have been a requested picture as well. But at least he was a nice guy.\r\n\r\nErrick is his player.

Image: fishing.jpg   500x653 107380 bytes 2006.07.23

Commissioned pic for Moldred of his characters Stephanie Foster (fossa) and Charlton Forte (jackalope) in the mountains fishin' for furred trout.\r\n\r\nCharacters Moldred

Moon. \r\n\r\nCrack, stretch, rip. \r\n\r\nGrowwwwl.\r\n\r\nHappy Halloween.

Image: headlights.jpg   348x517 49595 bytes 2003.05.15

A cloaked coyote in the rain by the side of the road, illuminated by the headlights of an oncoming car. An attempt at an atmospheric sort of picture.\r\n

Be vewwy vewwy quiet. She's hunting foxes.

Image: jacko.jpg   500x663 39376 bytes 2003.11.01

Okay, I was wrong, I do have another holiday related picture, and I'm sneaking this one in just under the wire for those who haven't already left for their Halloween shindigs (or already gone to bed in Europe).\r\n\r\nThis is my jack o' lantern for 2003, the first one into which I put my whole ass, or at least 7/8 of it. And it looks nice, I think. I'll have to check the VCL sieve to see if anybody else carved one this year.

It's all about duality. And the secrets of a supposedly normal young girl. And mixing four or five colored pencils to get "industrial green" for the subway walls. I now have a Prismacolor pencil that reproduces that color pretty much exactly.

Image: jehrtash.jpg   400x570 16476 bytes 2003.05.15

Upload #1, and it feels so good. Anyway, the earliest piece from my archive I feel good about putting up. I used to do folks' requests for free, and this is a romantic picture featuring a somewhat Egyptian-dressed lioness (Tashly), and an otter (Jehr), who was supposed to be physically non-morphic, but I ain't havin' that kind of hanky panky, so I compromised a bit. The cop-a-feel is perhaps a bit out of place, but one of them suggested it, and I was all too happy to comply... \r\n\r\nJehr and Tashly are their respective players.

Image: kansas.jpg   500x655 98794 bytes 2005.05.22

And finally, since I'm never one to let a good idea go to waste (sort of), here's the official female portfolio version of the first Kansas picture.
