Image is a photograph, original dimensions are 31x17" on scrap plywood.

I am known to paint from time to time, though I didn't realize until tonight I could paint with acrylic. Weird.

Looks prettier in reality, the camera loses so much texture and detail. The black base/background actually has a fine mist of metallic silver on it, which is where the goldish reflection comes from(Yellow lamp bulb).

I did it for me, before my head explodes. Maybe 12 hours of work max over three days?

Maladaptive Chibis - Dealing with Sales Reps

Social anxiety doesn't give me a very long fuse when it comes to high-pressure sales people actively chasing you in the damned mall.

Poor Rowan, he really needs a squirt bottle for Sakara.

Maladaptive Chibis - Cat Love

My relationship with my cat is...odd. Particularly for her breed(ragdoll). I guess it isn't that weird for cats though.

The corvid at center is the first creature, a few weeks later I made the tiger and unicorn. Ink, marker, and watercolor.

ATCs are 2.5x3.5" miniature pieces of art.

An assortment of 8 ATCs, mostly because they're therapeutic for me. The only requirement for an ATC is that it fits in a 2.5x3.5" area.

An in joke from a Halloween filled with fecal humor.

It's cute nonetheless.

Maladaptive Chibis - Insects and Expletives

Backstory: Whilst driving to college today, I had my window down with the heat in the floor because I like it for some odd reason. Out of nowhere, halfway to my destination, I feel a WHACK to my temple. Only to realize...there is a yellow jacket in the car. Ohshit. Thankfully it has been cold here and the wasp was dazed, so I managed to make it the rest of the way to school with it exploring my lap and shirt in circles. I even set the darn thing free by coaxing it onto a piece of paper and out of my car when I got there.

The other part of this is that when startled or made suddenly angry, even when minor, I tend to say things that would make a pirate blush.

Maladaptive Chibis - Reptile Keeping I

Backstory: In trying to coax my leucistic leopard gecko out of his cage to clean it, I got bit pretty good. This particular leo has always been skittish and for very good reasons, but I still felt sadfaced for a bit. XP He was quite the angel once he realized my hand was not a Leo-Eating-Monster.

When keeping reptiles, one has to acknowledge the fact they are tame, not domesticated, and certainly don't have any comprehension of mammalian affection.

Maladaptive Chibis - Obligatory Political Art

That's pretty much it from me.

Back to being quiet now. :3

AnthroSketchXChange - Pac Rat

For PacRat over at the AnthroSketchXChange.

I looooove that I got a person who let me try for the creepy side of things, moreso that I got someone I could do a rat with! Rats can be tweaked into such wonderful monstery things.

Pac has a partially fused cranium and double tongues in each mouth. <3 The blood is largely because I don't imagine many things with fused faces are terribly healthy...

This is a lot less work than it looks like, the inks are only 6x6".

Happy Halloween all. <3

Maladaptive Chibis - Tutoring Freshman

Rowan's morning and night job at grad school is...an english tutor. God bless his soul.

Anyone who's ever helped the less...academically blessed has probably contemplated the coming action.

Maladaptive Chibis - Dosing Challenges

PremeSyn actually is more like a mega tranquilizer for me, despite it's over the counter use as a PMS med. Rowan has been witness to my total inability to stay awake and walk in a straight line after taking the adult dose. I really am less than 100lbs, but in my defense, I'm an inch shy of five feet tall. >_>;

Maladaptive Chibis - On Sharing

I'm much better these days than I was two or three years ago, but a very long string of bad experience had led me to...jump the gun in defense of things. When :iconarris-theblue: Rowan and I first started the poor guy probably felt this particular Sakara face staring at him from time to time. Thankfully that evil face is usually left to That Time Of The Month instead now. : D

Maladaptive Chibis - Iori's Back Story

I once had a series of one-panel wonders and other silly doodles I used to put under the name of 'Homocidal Chibis'. Given that I'm not really full of teenage rage these days, I decided to redub them 'Maladaptive Chibis', which seems to be more true to my life.

Every time I do an art trade and ask for Iori, inevitably in the comments on the other person's half people speculate or make fun of Iori's quite ridiculous scars. So I present to you the totally non-canon but MUCH funnier reason he looks like that: TOTALLY lost a fight with lawn mower. Probably dissed it's momma.

Fleece - Dragon Hat

Another fleece hat, lovingly modeled by a tiger plush since I don't have one of those handy foam heads.

This was a pretty successful experiment. I'll be changing the pattern I used in the tail area, but it was pretty close to what I was attempting to achieve. I'm quite happy with the adorable, pointed ears. This is a four panel pattern as opposed to a one-panel type pattern for a stocking hat. I'm going to experiment with the stocking pattern for solid color designs, but I'll be keeping the four panel to see how hard an Iridium hat would be. I figure if I can customize my own characters, I aught to be able to figure out how to do so for others.

Fleece - Tiger Hat

Another fleece hat, this time experimenting with a big cat pattern. The stripes and ear details were reasonably successful, I think I'll bob the ears much shorter next time.

Fleece - Red Fox Hat

Another fleece hat, this time a red fox. My boss told me I absolutely had to make one after he saw my blue and black cat hat at work. :3 I think it's really cute and it's lovingly modeled by one of my WAAAY too many white tiger plushes. His name is Iori. Yes, as in my big, scar-happy tiger guy. The little whale shark plush came from the Atlanta Aquarium and I LOVE HIS STUPID FACE.

It's made of polar fleece off a pattern I painstakingly figured out with many experiments as seen in the original 'Fleece Kitty Hats' picture. I'm going to try and make a few of these hats with different color schemes or animal types. I do need to bring my sizes down though. e.e;

Fleece kitty hats by me. You can see how INCREDIBLY short I am. That's me at left, my boyfriend Rowan is in the middle and his sister Reine-Haru at right. Rowan's just about six feet tall.

These are made from brushed, medium-weight polar fleece and are surprisingly warm and comfy. Other hat ideas are in progress, but I do plan on making a lot of various color-combo-ed kitty hats for individual sale.

despairrefsheet.jpg

A reference sheet at long-last for her, though it is admittedly quite quick. I mostly made this so poor miss Io will actually have something to look at for our trade!

I tweak Despair a great deal in my artwork, since she does come from a world where reality is dictated solely by the mind, but this should be a good general idea of her appearance.

Despair's counterpart, as the two vices can often go hand-in-hand. He's needed a refsheet as well, I should draw him more often. Rage is originally derived from Iori, if it isn't obvious. ;3

His form can be altered somewhat, but as long as he's a furless, rams-horned, burning black tiger...it's all good.

An incredibly simple watercolor wash painting of sand dunes. No reference, started a weekend or so ago and picked up again today.

dragonspeaksfire.jpg

An older picture from around July(For those who watch my livejournal) that I went ahead and finally finished today.

It was originally going to be Niobium, but he ended up exceptionally bright, though all the physical features and patterning are correct. I really do love saurian-faced dragons. <3

thaniousandjaia.jpg

My half of a trade for bluewolfcheetah of her werewolf Thanious and his dearest love, Jaia.

Thanious struck me as being Iori-like, but I figured for the sake of a loving picture like I was imagining I should make his stance a tad more regal.

Colored pencil(Why god, why do I actually LIKE colored pencils?!), yellow cardstock that falls short of being bright enough to see from space, and some white acrylic paint.

Somehow Jaia ended up looking entirely too much like me, but I think that's because I'm also blue-eyed with long blonde hair parted on the side.

thelancastriankiriban.jpg

An image for Lancastrian of Quinine, for my recent Kiriban. I hope you like it!

I kept trying to fit cookies, balls of yarn, jawbreakers, and other cute things in the composition to really show size(She's only cat-sized), but it didn't quite work. >.< That metallic gold look almost killed me. XP

I played a great deal with the character design, trying to blend equine with eastern dragon. I think some of it was successful.

I did the ink lines on bristol, scanned them, reprinted them on bright green cardstock, then went at it with colored pencils.

Luke's Contrition

This painting did not go the places I wanted it to. Luke's colors are wrong, he should have a more gold body with either same color hair or slightly lighter. I also apparently did not tape off the edges evenly.

Grrr.

Anxiety art therapy.

Several stamps, metallic ink, and a disembodied marker heart.

A 9x12 watercolor. The technique I screwed up in the octopus painting actually worked out this time here. I also chose Ultramarine for my blue since Winsor blue was kinda weak and more like day.

I just like the whole concept of this. I didn't set out to make anything in particular, I just wanted to paint. When that happens, cool things usually abound.

vaultedfurnace.jpg
Image: vaultedfurnace.jpg 482x754 121067 bytes 2008.10.06

This is a 5.5x8.5" watercolor painting of a real place in my head, but I find whenever I paint it I purposefully make it a little abstract or at least surreal. It's become a mixture of the clockwork beneath Sakara's world, a place in my Afterworld, and my boyfriend Rowan's 'Lacuna'.

The image is of a vault-like structure, burning in the bottom with machinery while steam vents through to the surface. What that machinery is or does can be interpreted, as well as whether the vaulting is a natural occurrence or something made.

watercoloroctopus.jpg
Image: watercoloroctopus.jpg 764x493 146665 bytes 2008.10.06

A watercolor octopus. The color is the result of a failed attempt to wet the paper and bleed one color down over another. I ended up using FAR too much water to apply the second color which is where the running-ink effect comes from.

In an attempt to have not wasted a 5.5x8.5" piece of paper, I tried doodling on it. Lately cephalopods of various kinds seem to be my favorite random doodle subjects. The octopus itself is just a black pen and a white gel pen.

therollingcity.jpg
Image: therollingcity.jpg 747x478 96629 bytes 2008.10.06

A 5.5x8.5" little painting of a massive, blacked-out city. Just playing in watercolor. Holy crap, Sakara can paint things OTHER than beasts or anthros!

Something I discovered in scanning this one(And the next three) are that my paintings look FAR better in real life than they do scanned. Translucent mediums just seem to loose so much when digitized.
