Wolf Nymph Badge 2009

Thought I'd commission myself for a full body badge, hehe! =) Actually, I've had this sketched and waiting to be colored since I graduated, and thought I'd take a small break from commissions to do this for myself. What do you guys think of my new wing design? Been leaning away from a naturalistic pattern to something more bold for her.

I hope to make a fully updated reference sheet with new art someday, then you'll see both sides of her wings. Someday I'd love to make references for all my characters, many yet to be seen in my gallery.

While digging up the sketches for old commissions (which I'm working on now) I found this little pencil drawing of my puppy Wolfy, which I must have done before he died. He seems like a happy little dog ghost in the drawing, thus the title.

Added the Kanji for dog (Inu) just for fun!

Nice Hat

He has a great hat, right? XD Slightly belated valentines day piece for my wonderful boyfriend of 4.5 years, Preston! It's sort of a continuation of this piece, which I did for him a little over 2 years ago. I figure that dragon would have gotten a little bigger by now! I do rather like this piece, though I lament the lack of a background. Alas, no time! I have lots of school work to do. =)

Maori Red Dragon

I've been dying to color this sketch for ages, so in preparation for FC I dug it out of my piles to color it up! The designs I added to his body reminded me of Maori Tattoos, thus the title. He's supposed to be a white dragon with tattoos, but the pink feet, hands and nose make him look a little fleshy! XD That's ok, I still like him. I added some red Swarovski crystals to snaz him up a little more and make the original look really cool.

The Aquarian

Many people associate the sign of Aquarius with water, seeing as it's derived from the word "aqua". However, Aquarius is dominantly an air sign, and means "water bearer". Being an Aquarian myself, I can't help but revisit the concept again after making this piece back in 2005. I also can't help myself with these chunky swirly designs. XD

Kataragon War Regalia

Finished commission for *kcravenyote of her Kataragon character Kace! For this one, I put her in some war regalia that her particular subspecies wears for ceremonies. Their culture is similar to ancient Celts, thus the Celtic knots. This was a fun challenge, I think this is the second time I've drawn Celtic knots to date.

Keo Ishto

Arctic Spectacle

Another holiday card commission, this time for ~Artic-Dragoness of her character Artic, a white dragoness admiring the Aurora Borealis spectacle. I live in Colorado, and only once in my lifetime have the Northern Lights visited my home, and I was only months old at the time. It's always been a dream of mine to see them. ^^

Snow Play

Holiday card commission for *pekingin-ankka of an anthro Akita playing with two arctic foxes in the snow! This is one of my favorities by far, because I love the foxy-orange fur and bearish face of the akita, and arctic foxes are one of my absolute favorite animals! I have lots of arctic fox art in my apartment. ^^ This is another one I printed for myself to enjoy in my own home.

Peaceful Winter Perch

First Holiday Card commission completed for the awesome and sweet ~kcravenyote! This is her gorgeous cataragon (cat/dragon) character Kace, enjoying her wintery perch. I'm actually very fond of this piece, and I've made a print for myself to enjoy on my wall this winter season. =)

Mushroom Dragon

Completed illustration for my digital illustration class! This piece serves a dual purpose, as part of an upcoming dragon themed card deck project, which I'm lucky to be a part of.

I struggled with this piece at first, given the constraints of the assignment. But I found a way to save the composition, and get exactly what I wanted. So I'm pretty happy with this. =)

Blu

9" X 12" Marker and colored pencil commission for ~Keyox! I don't have this color blue in a straight marker form, so I had to layer up ultramarine, true blue and lilac over and over to get the color I wanted. Blu here is a beautiful little midget wolf, only 2 feet tall! Can you say CUTE! ^__^

Dark Io

Finished Part 2 commission for ~Psychopomp16 of DA of her character Io! This is the dark/demon version of Io. The wings are all black, but I tried to get that transparent membrane look a little. Did this one on 9" X 12" bristol with prismacolor markers and a tad of colored pencil.

The Purest Soul

Happy 17th birthday to my pup Wolfy, who passed away nearly one year ago at the age of 16. Instead of remember his death and have a somber day, I tried to remember his life, what he did for me as my best friend growing up. So happy 17th birthday little brother. You are missed and celebrated....

Darkwings

Sorry if you're getting sick of seeing canines with feathers or wings, maybe I should branch out and draw some felines with feathers or wings. XD When I'm back in school, I won't have a chance to indulge this favorite drawing subject of mine, so I guess I'm getting it all out while I can.

Marker colors: Black, 50% cool grey, 30% cool grey, blondewood and eggshell.
Colored pencil colors: sand, white and black
And some graphite in there to refine texture/accentuate shadows etc...

Lightwings

Besides American Eskimos, I don't think I've ever drawn a specific breed of dog. So I tried my hand at a light colored husky, and gave him some cute little wings to add to his cuddle-ability.

Anyway, did this with prismacolor markers and graphite on 6" X 8" bristol. The colors I used were black, 30% cool grey, 20% cool grey, blondewood, sand, eggshell (for his fur) clay rose, salmon pink (for mouth and ears) and some true blue for his eyes.

Flamecrest Sentry

I was going to save this one for the Further Confusion art show in January, but I couldn't resist putting it up now. Another of my feathered canines, but with a background this time! This 5" X 7" painting was my attempt at making my art cheaper for your guys, by making it in a smaller, yet still enjoyable size. Once I had it sketched though, I got carried away and painted a background in acrylics. I'm going to be double matting this piece in red and black.

Eye of Spring

"The Eye of Spring chooses it's Keeper, channeling their life force into the turning of seasons. They are blinded, for only the Eye may see what is to come. At the end of the Keeper's life, the Eye chooses another being through which to channel the coming of spring."

I christined my new sketchbook with this drawing, and ended up going pretty far with it. Done with the whole shebang of mediums! 90% Prismacolor marker, 10% graphite, colored pencil and acrylic, on 9" X 12" smooth bristol.

Luna Halfblood

Yet another dragon girl! This one is for Preston, because today we are celebrating our 4th year anniversary. Four strong horns for four strong years, and a bright red gem on her brow symbolyzing the coming year and how it will shine! Oh, and a nice round rear, symbolizing... sexiness? XD

Can you tell I'm on a black and red kick lately?

This was a sketch from my last sketchbook that begged to be colored. I actually messed up on the coloring and struggled for most of the night trying to fix it, and it turned out pretty darned good! She is meant to be half dragon half human, but she looks like a demon I think.

Spark - Character Sheet

I've been kicking this character around my head for over a year, going through a bunch of little stories and ideas, not really knowing what to do with her. When I saw the Iron Man movie, I knew where she fit! I wanted her to be an original character, not linked to any existing universe (not a fan character), but she fits so well in the Marvel Universe with Iron Man and the Avengers Initiative. I may still create a parallel Kinsey who isn't a Marvel character, but I wanted to do this first.

I'll admit, it's because I'm a raving mad Iron Man fan. XD

Griffon - Avian Companion

Commission for Botchiball! I actually finished this one a week or so ago while I was in Arizona visiting my dad, but I didn't have a scanner there, and when I got back to Colorado I forgot all about it! ><; Bad me. *slaps wrist*

This Griffon is a companion to a race called Avians. It is very intelligent and built a lot like a large heavy dog. Thi version of a Griffon cannot achieve true flight, but use their smaller wings and fan tail to glide. They have extra talons on each wing to help with climbing and manipulating objects when not in flight.

Had a ton of fun with the colour scheme of this one. Half dog half hawk colouring! Done with Markers, pencil (as in graphite) and a tad of acrylic paint.

Jonny Appleseed Helps the Wolf

I haven't uploaded anything for a month, so I thought I'd finally post this children's book illustration I did for class last semester. This is Jonny Appleseed helping bandage the wolf's leg after finding him in a hunter's trap. The wolf then becomes his traveling companion!

I painted this entire thing in gesso and payne's gray acrylic before glazing color (also in acrylic) over it. It was my first time trying the technique. I think it was successful in creating ground and environment textures, but I'm not pleased with the way the wolf looks. I like Jonny's face though, I should paint more humans.

Sorry for my absense! I'm in a bit of an art lull, but I wanted to share some stuff that's been sitting around with you anyway.

Earth Bender Dog Girl

FINALLY I finished this! This drawing has been sitting in my sketchbook since the beginning of spring semester, just waiting to be inked and colored. I think this is a testament to my practice with markers, because this is 90% prismacolor marker, with some acrylic and mechanical pencil touchups.

Anyway, as you can see I'm a fan of Avatar. Although I think I'm very close to being a water bender, I just had to go with Earth bending for Wolf Nymph. If she could, she'd do both, but I think that's against the rules of the Avatar universe. But, so is an earth bending anthro dog girl, so I'm breaking the rules no matter what!
