Juel and Fabian

Savannah asked me to do her Shibu Inu character Juel with three-point-one-four's character Fabian (though I fear I don't know what species Fabian is!).

Fabian is helping Juel with his cravat, though what with the whole ripped up graveyard goth clothing it probably won't make him any neater. Juel is just being happy.

Taking the Tree Out

It is absolutely important not to ignore your tree when you go out! If necessary, take it with you. All miniature bonsai turtle trees enjoy a good swim.

10 Years

I am having a fairly bad night. So rather than hover over a dying pet, I made up this montage of how my artwork has changed over the last ten years. I thought there would be no changes in style, but I was very, very wrong. I have gone from almost only ever using pen and ink to a vast range of materials, which is probably the best thing about my progression.

Unseelie Orchestra - Mandolin Player Pencils

Here are the pencils in progress for my mandolin player from the Unseelie Orchestra. I am trying to toss up if I colour him with copics or wimp out and do it on the computer because I'm too frightened to ruin the original pencils.

Porcelain and Rook-in-the-Garret had names that leapt to mind instantly, but unfortunately I keep wanting to call this guy 'Chicken Eater'.

Griffon pencils

For colouring. But the basic idea is down, anyway. He's got a leopard backside, and a Phillipine Eagle (I think) head.

Orchestra Owlet

This is a present for someone at work in the office Kris Kringle. However, he's also an Orchestra member. I'm not sure if he plays an instrument or if he's some sort of little roadie. Suggestions are welcome!

Endless Forest Doe

I play the Endless Forest (http://www.taleoftales.com/TheEndlessForest/home.html) when I can, and I enjoy it a lot. The one thing that always saddens me is the fact you cannot play a doe. The stated reasons essentially boil down to 'females are boring' more than anything else. I could go on for a while, really, about how sad and disenfranchised the whole computer game industry makes me feel. But have an Endless Forest Doe instead.

Silverblue of the Roses

And here she is, finished, Silverblue of the Roses - with her rose covered top hat.. I'm getting the hang of this digital painting thing! This is using an entirely new technique I've been exposed to recently - a way of painting using gradient fills on layers to modify the colours beneath. I really should have worked from an inked sketch instead of a very basic pencil rough, but I'm quite pleased with her.

This is Softsweet the Unseelie Orchestra's Flautist. She's an owl during the day and elfin at night, which is very inconvenient for her...

Brams

This is the completed colours of Brams, my Fruitbat Pooka character. Brams is, admittedly, rather flaming, but he does enjoy it.

Each Uisge

The each uisge, pronounced ek-ooshkya is a Scottish water spirit, in Ireland called the Aughisky, and is similar to the kelpie, but far more dangerous.

Sosael

Sosael is a destructive moth-butterfly-cocoon with many, many incarnations of various kinds. Usually female, but drawn male here for Egypturnash, and belonging to her.

Onager - Indian prince

This is an onager, a type of donkey known as the half ass or the Asian Wild Ass. Specifically this one is a Khur, dressed up in the costume of an Indian Prince. Onagers have the most amazing faces.

Zebra - Nomad

I did another one in the equine series - this is a Zebra, with her costume based off that of a Masai tribeswoman. She's got her foal held in a sling at the back by means of a head support, which is traditional for the culture. The clothing is a little less so, and she lacks the ear stretching - I found too many conflicting clothes references to be really sure of what I was doing.

Eohippus - Flint Knapper

This is Eohippus - he's about twenty centimeters tall at the shoulder as a non-anthro, and his feet haven't yet become hooves. The one here is making himself a spear blade by knapping flint.

Przewalski's Horse - Tea Merchant

This is a mongolian tea merchant demonstrating his wares - he's a Przewalski's Horse, and his species is the only remaining truly wild horse in the world. He's a very hardy fellow, and very proud of the quality of his tea.

Misha and Milo

Misha is a fairly shy little thing, and for that matter, so is Milo. They had been dating about a year, when Milo succumbed to a somewhat Edward Gorey end.

Misha's aunt, who was a voudoun priestess, was quite pragmatic about this - she simply raised Milo back up as a zombie. Having young things crying around her was just not on, and it was a quick solution. Now the two of them spend a lot of time hanging out at coffee shops and so on, trying to blend in with the other waking dead.

Omnia Somnia

This is the completed picture. There are a bunch of things I'm not massively thrilled with, however! Various symbols inside are:

* Whipporwill, rabbit
* Life/Death

And probably more! And Omnia Somnia means 'All is a Dream', pretty much.

These are the pencils for a painting I am going to finish off hopefully at some point in between NaNoWriMo. More dream imagery than you can shake a stick at.

Clouded leopard/bird of paradise griffon.

This is something of a revisit of my Routing the Black Knight picture - a mouse scout on a snowy owl. Originally I was going to sketch another barn owl, but found too nice a reference picture for the snowy. I'm quite proud of this one, despite the fact that the scanner has removed at least fifty percent of my delicate pencil shading. I really need a digital camera.
