I was vaguely wondering what Silverblue would look like
if she was male. As most of my friends said, not that
much different from the female version - she's not an
intensely feminine character normally, so this really
isn't much different.

But I would have liked him to be a little more handsome...

"Chaos Conquers All"

I've been working on my Chaos Warhammer army (all
power to the Great and Glorious Slaneesh!), so I
decided to ink a chaos beastie while on camp.

The 'dies irae' in the background means 'Day of
Wrath'.

inkfox.jpg
Image: inkfox.jpg   373x600 47634 bytes 2002.12.08

Inkfox, which I was going to do for the recent inking
tutorial thing on DrawInk - but I just utterly lost
strength, due to illness. I did end up completing
him, at least.

Inkfox is copyright himself.

revar_listenwind.jpg
Image: revar_listenwind.jpg   482x660 51916 bytes 2002.11.24

Revar helped me out in a big way recently. This is a
thankyou to the bat behind the Belfry. Revar is listening
to the wind to hear what news it brings.

Go to: http://www.belfry.com/comics/ for a heapa heapa
big list of furry comics.

arphalia16th.jpg
Image: arphalia16th.jpg   377x560 44399 bytes 2002.11.20

Arphalia, if Arphalia was from the 16th Century.

And looked vaguely Bishi.

Arphalia is copyright themselves, as well you know. Done pen to paper direct, coloured in prisma markers. Pretty much a 'bored at work' scribble, and what better to do than draw pretty furries?

fogofwar.jpg
Image: fogofwar.jpg   600x585 49873 bytes 2002.11.14

I love paladins. The entire concept of paladins, the
knightly power, the courtley love, the certainty in
belief and power. In my mind they slide through the
fog of war in dark armour and no one may gainsay them.

This is for Ashryn, who I respect and admire, who's art
gives me pleasure.

Entirely photoshop, one end to the other.

Ashryn is copyright herself.

harvest.jpg
Image: harvest.jpg   368x552 64588 bytes 2002.11.13

A very belated Halloween picture, which I, alas, lacked time
to finish on the night itself.

I rather like my strange green tied up cat thing. I think
I'll draw them again. Male...female? I think female but
androgynous. Mmm...androgyny...

Thebans_Bane.jpg
Image: Thebans_Bane.jpg   610x460 48896 bytes 2002.10.13

The Sphinx, when outriddled by Oedipus, decided not to kill herself after all. We find her here in some dark forest, staring into a pool, still dripping with the blood of those who failed to answer her riddles succesfully.

makebelieve.jpg
Image: makebelieve.jpg   491x620 46355 bytes 2002.10.02

This started off as a perfectly fluffy, pleasant,
innocent angel bunny picture. Then I had a rather
upsetting and distressing sort of day and decided
to come home and continue my nice angel bunny in
the hope that she could cheer me up.

Oh well. Playing make believe again.

alex.jpg
Image: alex.jpg   378x585 51115 bytes 2002.09.19

Alex from the online comic LatexBlue. Alex belongs to Dragonfly. There you go!

The world needs more rabbits in top hats. Even stuffed ones.

seraphine.jpg
Image: seraphine.jpg   406x610 81008 bytes 2002.08.10

I've been drawing these weird little centauroid life
forms that are bird from the waist down for years. This
one was done in ink direct to paper, but I decided she
turned out decently enough that I'd try and colour her
in photoshop.

Even though Seraphine looks nothing like a phoenix, for
some reason I envisage her species as being something
similar to the firebird in meaning. This little creature
is an exceptionally goffy version of what I normally draw
as firey and cheerful creatures.

handsupcharleston.gif
Image: handsupcharleston.gif   411x600 43604 bytes 2002.08.07

StickDevil (who's spiffy art you can find here on Velar),
zooted up, doing the hands-up charleston.

Just for the sake of accuracy, I'm going to pretend that
he's midway through a transition which is why his right
hand isn't further over. I thought about putting him in
a bright red or blue suit, but decided to go for a more
30's sort of look...

StickDevil is of course, copyright himself!

ayamallin.jpg
Image: ayamallin.jpg   386x560 57918 bytes 2002.07.26

The coloured (and very sweet) Aya with her partner Mallin.
I'd been reading Gloomcookie somewhat, and it has a rather
cute scene with a couple of goths going for a picnic in
a graveyard, so after wracking my brains I decided to have
Aya and Mallin doing the same thing. These two are Copyright
their respective owners. *snug*

ayamalin.jpg
Image: ayamalin.jpg   356x600 47893 bytes 2002.07.24

A little inked sketch of Aya Braeden and her partner Mallin.

Still deciding whether to colour or shade :)

patrick.jpg
Image: patrick.jpg   397x520 44742 bytes 2002.07.12

Patrick gets ready to go out clubbing. Just like
I would be tonight if I wasn't running a fever.
Pout. Sort of inspired by a mix of Arphalia and
Ashryn - I had an odd dream about this wolfy boy
and he was connected with their names.

timelord.jpg
Image: timelord.jpg   351x532 59480 bytes 2002.07.08

I have an obsession with the idea of the phoenix. Less the
actual creature, and more what it represents. I used to draw
dozens and dozens of them, little strange elfin bird creatures
on fire. Time has no real meaning for them - their version
of immortality owes more to renewal and new life than
continued existence, so I see them as more free...

And I rather like the little pocket she's got on her wings.

tabularasa.jpg
Image: tabularasa.jpg   415x500 51424 bytes 2002.06.22

This will be the logo for my new website at http://www.gothbunny.net. I needed a new little picture to use on the side and wanted the gothbunny in it somehow, but didn't want to show her face.

Pencil, ink, and Copic markers.

flyboy.jpg
Image: flyboy.jpg   352x550 58456 bytes 2002.06.06

A somewhat spunky vaguely goffy bat boy in front of a very simple cityscape.

Reminds me of some of the gravers I know in real life, now that I think about it.

exile.jpg
Image: exile.jpg   370x576 58420 bytes 2002.05.24

I have been listening to far too much Cure and Gary Numan.
In Lacunae, Silverblue lives in an abandoned church, and
no matter how she would like to join society, cannot due
to the machinations of her pack and master Crimson. An
exile in truth.

aya.jpg
Image: aya.jpg   325x450 24696 bytes 2002.05.21

Aya Braeden is copyright her player.

I found myself doodling this in photoshop while roleplaying
online. I like precisely one part - the light in the eye on
the viewer's right. I'm sorry, Aya, I promise I'll do
something better next time!

chibi.gif
Image: chibi.gif   260x300 10366 bytes 2002.05.03

The horror, the horror!
Chibi-Silverblue. Because I needed a logo for the new
website I'm developing.

clarabelle.jpg
Image: clarabelle.jpg   429x620 58133 bytes 2002.04.15

The little doodles I do while watching Buffy or Angel tend
to be in a different style, probably because I can't
concentrate on complex shading while I'm trying to watch
something else. But I was thinking of growth and the
unconscious and how it's occassionally represented as a
dark, frightening wood that you have to journey through to
reach a new understanding of yourself.

So this is Clarabelle and her wood of the unconscious.
She's not exactly scared, more wary, but possibly still a
little naive even now - but she has the shadows of her
dress and hair to protect her.

mumbleypeg.jpg
Image: mumbleypeg.jpg   452x650 107732 bytes 2002.04.13

*Cough* - a reupload since the first one seemed so dark.
And one or two changes to make some of the details seem a little more visible.

Silverblue learning to play Mumbley-Peg and hitting her pinky. Painful, that. I like the sort of Gorey-ish feel
it has to it. Lots of fun to put together.

chinese_actor.jpg
Image: chinese_actor.jpg   365x600 38948 bytes 2002.04.05

I've finally finished my first painted piece. The
medium is gouache, on a reasonably heavy paper. The fox
is wearing a traditional Chinese theatre costume, her knife
being nothing more than a prop.
Having no experience of painting prior to this image, I am
extremely pleased with the way it has turned out. Gouache
seems to be a very forgiving medium, amenable to reworking
and shading. This is possibly one of the most enjoyable
images I have ever worked on.

kiss_shade.jpg
Image: kiss_shade.jpg   600x467 57258 bytes 2002.03.17

Pen and ink (microns) as well as brush inks and
thousands of dots. Thousands. They drove me insane.
If I wasn't already there, of course.

I tend to shy away from drawing Silverblue as the
vampiric creature she essentially is, that sense
of being self-conscious again. This time I decided
to actually give it a try with Sean, who at least
would be a more than willing victim. I'm just a
sad old goth.

furrier.jpg
Image: furrier.jpg   371x550 29211 bytes 2002.03.14

'Let me see you stripped down to the bones' - Depeche Mode.

I did the 'The Furrier' quite a while ago, but never uploaded her for some reason. She's something of an anti-furry - actually rather horridly slick and wet underneath, but nice and warm since she found her skin again.

And, rather obviously, she's the vengeful ghost of a murder victim.

muse.jpg
Image: muse.jpg   430x650 57746 bytes 2002.03.10

This is a complex picture for me for a number of reasons
that are probably of little interest to others. The first
is that I have always had a great love of the symbolism of
the phoenix - rebirth through fire, hope and ecstatic joy
derived from catharsis. So my muse has always been a fire
bird, though I tend to draw the gothbunny more. I decided
to merge them.

This is also something of a tribute to the gothic artists
who I admire, Arphalia and Edward Gorey being amongst them.
While not trying to actively mimic their styles, they were
in my mind at the time.

When starting this piece, I wanted it to be about being
trapped, unable to escape to the scenes behind, but I found
myself growing more positive while working on it. I often
feel as though my art is not up to 'standard' and that
I'm missing much in what I'm trying to achieve. But, again
phoenix-like, I found that as I put my fears down on paper
I began to feel reclaimed somehow. The last touch for me
was the addition of one of my poems, something I seldom
share, and yet it felt right.

And so this is my phoenix-muse all over again, thinking
about inspiration and being lifted up by the flames burning
in her mind.

chistrike.jpg
Image: chistrike.jpg   377x500 64267 bytes 2002.03.03

The pencil doodle for this image started in my rough sketchbook while I was at the Dan O'Connell pub and then gradually proceeded to ink from there. This was done while under the influence of Scrumpy Jack, so naturally I had no idea what the siamese cat was actually doing.

Later on, one of my friennds commented that he looked like he was doing a chi-strike, so I quickly tried to pretend I'd meant it all along. I'm cunning like that.

weddinginvite.jpg
Image: weddinginvite.jpg   431x600 39153 bytes 2002.02.20

This is, believe it or not, a wedding invite commission from a pair of non-furry friends. Thus it its layout, design, and characters are copyright Geoffrey Brent and Gillian Richards.

And inking this took forever. Trust me.

clouddancer.jpg
Image: clouddancer.jpg   327x450 26759 bytes 2002.01.31

The horrible thing about this is that the swaths and
swaths of delicate shading haven't shown up in the
scan at all. Nothing. Nada. Damnit, I spent hours
blending this - what happened?
This rather uglier version of Cloud Dancer is Copyright
