Thaily Brimstone, who's work can be found elseVelar, created a race of creatures called lox - lion fox hybrids. Here we have the anatomy of a young male lox, playing in a fairly bouncy loxish way :)

Macabre the bat from Tapestries MUCK (though she's no longer there). Macabre
had incrediably detailed tattooed wings, though I've drawn her far too heavy,
as she was described as being very slender. Macabre is Copyright her player.

Over the last couple of nights I've been working on a new picture of Macabre,
the bat with the tattooed wings. As I so rarely do any pictures of plantigrade
creatures, I decided to change her around a little. And then I started watching
the Matrix. And then I read a Cthulhu story. And in the end In had Macabre the
High Priestess. This is the first time I have used prismacolours. They are
interesting, if not the tool I would generally choose.

This started off as a perfectly fluffy, pleasant,
innocent angel bunny picture. Then I had a rather
upsetting and distressing sort of day and decided
to come home and continue my nice angel bunny in
the hope that she could cheer me up.

Oh well. Playing make believe again.

Unseelie Orchestra - Mandolin Player Pencils

Here are the pencils in progress for my mandolin player from the Unseelie Orchestra. I am trying to toss up if I colour him with copics or wimp out and do it on the computer because I'm too frightened to ruin the original pencils.

Porcelain and Rook-in-the-Garret had names that leapt to mind instantly, but unfortunately I keep wanting to call this guy 'Chicken Eater'.

Zebra - Nomad

I did another one in the equine series - this is a Zebra, with her costume based off that of a Masai tribeswoman. She's got her foal held in a sling at the back by means of a head support, which is traditional for the culture. The clothing is a little less so, and she lacks the ear stretching - I found too many conflicting clothes references to be really sure of what I was doing.

Meow the cat has nine lives.
And all of them have two eyes.
Four of them make up her paws
Three of them eyes and her nose
And zero her skill in disguise.

merry_perkygoth.jpg
Image: merry_perkygoth.jpg   446x600 36376 bytes 2000.07.19

It's a perkygoth blowing bubbles, of course. But, more importantly, it's a
Merry bat. Merry was scribbled quickly while I had more pressing concerns
and was solely done for fun. Of course, her sisters Merry and Merry are
a great deal more angsty.

Merry Christmas to all from Silverblue the Gothbunny. Stay safe and be kind to one another.

Mile End - A pencil piece of a punk zebra, looking a bit
dubious about the entire situation she finds herself in.

"It was on the fifteenth floor,
It had a bar across the door
We had to prise it off just to get inside..."

mishamilo.jpg

Misha and Milo

Misha is a fairly shy little thing, and for that matter, so is Milo. They had been dating about a year, when Milo succumbed to a somewhat Edward Gorey end.

Misha's aunt, who was a voudoun priestess, was quite pragmatic about this - she simply raised Milo back up as a zombie. Having young things crying around her was just not on, and it was a quick solution. Now the two of them spend a lot of time hanging out at coffee shops and so on, trying to blend in with the other waking dead.

moon_priestess.jpg

A cheetah priestess decorates her dwelling place
in honour of the moon. This was an experiment in
two ways - the main part was that I sometimes take
pen immediately to paper to remind myself not to
be constrained or controlled by the myth of the
perfect line. So the cheetah was drawn directly
in ink to ensure I could not rub out any line I was
unhappy with. The second experiment involved the
mottled yellow paper I used, which was interesting.
Cold-pressed, it was extremely un-absorbant, to the
point of making shading difficult.

I'm reasonably pleased with the result.

mumbleypeg.jpg
Image: mumbleypeg.jpg   452x650 107732 bytes 2002.04.13

*Cough* - a reupload since the first one seemed so dark.
And one or two changes to make some of the details seem a little more visible.

Silverblue learning to play Mumbley-Peg and hitting her pinky. Painful, that. I like the sort of Gorey-ish feel
it has to it. Lots of fun to put together.

muse.jpg
Image: muse.jpg   430x650 57746 bytes 2002.03.10

This is a complex picture for me for a number of reasons
that are probably of little interest to others. The first
is that I have always had a great love of the symbolism of
the phoenix - rebirth through fire, hope and ecstatic joy
derived from catharsis. So my muse has always been a fire
bird, though I tend to draw the gothbunny more. I decided
to merge them.

This is also something of a tribute to the gothic artists
who I admire, Arphalia and Edward Gorey being amongst them.
While not trying to actively mimic their styles, they were
in my mind at the time.

When starting this piece, I wanted it to be about being
trapped, unable to escape to the scenes behind, but I found
myself growing more positive while working on it. I often
feel as though my art is not up to 'standard' and that
I'm missing much in what I'm trying to achieve. But, again
phoenix-like, I found that as I put my fears down on paper
I began to feel reclaimed somehow. The last touch for me
was the addition of one of my poems, something I seldom
share, and yet it felt right.

And so this is my phoenix-muse all over again, thinking
about inspiration and being lifted up by the flames burning
in her mind.

The fox with the fiery wings in the process of burning is Mwerevu of FurryMUCK,
copyright her player. And the title? Well, that's from KMFDM...
"Now show me one more upturned knife \ And fill the emptiness inside \ If I could leave my burning skin \...Be mine Sister Salvation. \ Juke-Joint Jezebel is coming for my cremation. Be mine Sister Salvation. Closer now - See - the revelation!"

Napaltjarri, a female platypus plays in the water. As a slightly less anthro than normal marsupial, she doesn't have breasts. Who needs them anyway, when you have green floating hair

nightmare.jpg

This is the cover I did for the excellent Australian furry fanzine of South Fur
Lands. Currently this is the only zine I submit work to, and you should all
go out and buy it to support the Australian fandom (grin).
And here I was thinking this was a cool spoof until I realised no one but
me was old enough to remember Alice Cooper. Sigh. Good old Alice...what with
the ever present rumours of him biting the head off a bat, I decided to redraw
him as one on the cover of his 'Welcome To My Nightmare' album.

"So...what actually HAPPENED to your muzzle?" Rodney and a random nightmare critter. Rodney the jackal with the shyguy mask belongs to Radd Spencer (woohoo!), but I just thought I'd borrow him for a moment 'cause I've been wanting to know the answer to this question for a while now. It's almost unbelievable that I drew a bunny that wasn't Silverblue.

officepolitics.jpg
Image: officepolitics.jpg   476x650 41503 bytes 2000.07.27

The Gaiman-inspired picture on the left is called 'Office Politics', which both
sums up how I feel about them and the current state of them where I work...
The concept of the Corinthian's eyes is something I've loved for ages, so I
decided to draw a distinctly grim version of the rabbit Sean from Lacunae.
Dreads, dark glasses, and fangs. If you're curious about Gaiman, go out and
try reading some of his celebrated 'Sandman' series. Excellent work. Look for
the Corinthian.

omnia_somnia_complete.jpg

Omnia Somnia

This is the completed picture. There are a bunch of things I'm not massively thrilled with, however! Various symbols inside are:

* Poppies, alive and dead
* Keys, locks, doors
* Blood, bone, knife
* Wine, glass, pomegranate
* Whipporwill, rabbit
* Life/Death

And probably more! And Omnia Somnia means 'All is a Dream', pretty much.

"Everyone is beautiful. Come and see."

Fan art of Ookami Kemono's 'Pussy Cat' character. Go look at his directory here on Velar.

This is a slightly unusual style for me, but I was trying to copy the fact that Pussy Cat is more muscular than the somewhat sleek Silverblue. It's also plainly just strange anyway. And yes, Silver's naked. Oh, the horror.

This is a present for someone at work in the office Kris Kringle. However, he's also an Orchestra member. I'm not sure if he plays an instrument or if he's some sort of little roadie. Suggestions are welcome!

"So it's farewell sweet Caroline! Farewell Isobelle! Goodbye gentle ladies of
the old order." This picture was inspired by Johnny Clegg's song 'Orphans of
the Empire' which describes the confusion and grief that the white colonists
of Africa might have felt upon leaving due to the uprisings they caused. I was
very strongly taken by the imagery, having felt something of the amazing pull
Africa can force upon you with its beauty and alien nature. The lady in question
is an African Civet rather than a more appropriate imported animal, but I felt
like drawing something unusual.
"He tells you confidentially he wished he understood the indigenies. But the
shadows they are lengthening and the sun it must set. Bewildered and confused,
he scurries home to his bed - 'Hold me close, Africa. Fill my soul, Africa...let
me in'."

owlrider.jpg
Image: owlrider.jpg   500x522 47290 bytes 2006.07.19

This is something of a revisit of my Routing the Black Knight picture - a mouse scout on a snowy owl. Originally I was going to sketch another barn owl, but found too nice a reference picture for the snowy. I'm quite proud of this one, despite the fact that the scanner has removed at least fifty percent of my delicate pencil shading. I really need a digital camera.

Some of the furrygoths from the West Corner of the Park. Left to right, it's Wallflower, Silverblue, Asagwe, Shalindria, and Arphalia (all copyright their respective players). This is also a lesson in why I should stick to pen and ink, damnit.

The Ki-rin Xiaoyan and the unicorn Maya parley. Maya would have her asiatic counterpart join her in the battle against the draconic invaders, but Xiaoyan knows only the honourable dragons of his homeland and is dubious.

Patrick gets ready to go out clubbing. Just like
I would be tonight if I wasn't running a fever.
Pout. Sort of inspired by a mix of Arphalia and
Ashryn - I had an odd dream about this wolfy boy
and he was connected with their names.
