Originally a AC 2002 Con sketch for Shyboar, but I didn't want to keep uploading B&W Con sketches, and the sketch he emailed me was big enough to color, so here 'tis. His book's theme was along the lines of "furry feline femmes", and he asked me to draw a tigress; I was very happy to comply. (thank you, Shyboar! I owe you a print!) Pencil, Photoshop 7.

1/22/2001, pencil. For the wonderful Amy Fennell, depicting one of her Cats of the Lodestone.

Eric & Michael. Picture 1 of 4 for the story "Drowning in Moonlight" by the very kind & helpful (and talented!) Andrija Popovic, an individual who has my full respect. This story appears in issue #3 of ANTHROLATIONS - The Magazine of Anthropomorphic Dramatic Fiction. (check out www.sofawolf.org!) Special thanks to Brer (editor/publisher/layout design) for all HIS help, kindness, and UNENDING PATIENCE! :D The scans he did of my pencil art actually look better in the magazine than the ones I've posted here (per his permission).

Mike & Storm. Pic 2 for "Drowning in Moonlight". "He hugged the 'saur as if Storm was the last, good thing in the universe..." Thanks again to Andrija for all HIS help when I had questions! :D

Michael. Pic 3 for "Drowning in Moonlight". "Growling in frustration, he covered his eyes and collapsed onto the floor..."

Eric & Lorie. Pic 4 for "Drowning in Moonlight". "Eric tumbled over the sofa arm, landing on top of her. She laughed..." I tried to make Eric's features rougher and more masculine when compared to Lorie's. I wasn't sure what kind of feline to make Lorie, so I ended up basing her appearance off of my female cat-character Lorelei, but added generic stripes.

213x286 55256 bytes 2000.07.04
Arrrrr....! 1998 pen sketch. Ever have one of those days? Here's that white lion-type guy again, but stylized and vaguely "big-bad-wolf"-like in appearance.
| Image: Syn-Asa.jpg
449x575 46786 bytes 2001.07.03
Asa! By the talented AND amazingly prolific Allison Reed (the javachickn). I saw a non-anthro wingless pic of him here at the VCL & fell in love! I drew him non-anthro too, and looking kind of like a doberman, tho' I think he's supposed to be more dingo-like. I might go back and color the wings in, too. (BTW: I'd love to get back to experimenting with backgrounds & poses & media SOON! Anyone have some free time to lend me?)

528x450 46564 bytes 2001.04.14
Aurora! My half of an art trade with Michele Sheikh. Check her out here at the VCL! Since Aurora's a unicorn and not a "real" horse, I had fun with anatomy. (Boy, it's been AGES since my "unicorn phase" - yes, I went through a unicorn / winged horse phase as a kid, too). Photoshop 6 & pencil.
| Image: syn-Bataar.jpg
501x345 105195 bytes 2000.07.20
Tarbosaurus Bataar: 1992, gouache on black illustration board. Dinosaurs are yet ANOTHER life-long passion of mine; they were among the first things I EVER drew! I reconstructed him from skulls I'd seen, though I'm sure by now, 13 years later, it may be a bit out-of-date with current theory! That's his hip-bone there, too. A Tarbosaurus is a tyrannosaur; it was slightly lighter-bodied than Tyrannosaurus Rex.

"Beloved (The Leopard Wife)". Colored pencil, Micron pen. One of two images on papyrus with Egyptian themes. The original is much brighter. I've loved Egyptian art ever since I was very young, and I'd always wanted to do a series of big cats in Egyptian finery, but never had the time. I finally sat down and did two pieces; I hope to add more to the series. I tried to imagine this leopard woman (and the cheetah of "Messenger") had interesting backstories; perhaps she had her portrait done as a present from her loving husband (yes, I'm a closet romantic). Papyrus was a lot of fun to work with!

466x600 87073 bytes 2001.04.14
Blackfrost! Out of the blue, Julie Wondra sent me magnificent pics of Synnabar Hellcat - so I did this in return. I was trying out Photoshop 6, and I got a little carried away! (She's supposed to have black fur, not brown).

390x600 80288 bytes 2001.03.13
Black No.1: pencil, 3/2001. Inspired (but not posed for) by my then-boyfriend-now-husband :D (he has great arms). He's a combination of things I love to draw - big cats, big muscles, and big hair. I LOVE B&W makeup (like that worn by The Crow, Robert Smith of The Cure, etc.). I don't usually do stuff like this, but it was good practice.
| Image: syn-BloodhoundOmegaI.jpg
650x569 97809 bytes 2004.10.18
Bloodhound Omega Version I: 2003, the first of four pics I did for his creator. At first I thought Bloodhound Omega was more wolf-like, and since I have a hard time drawing wolves, I tried to make him quite wolf-like and realistic. I looked at other wolf-art I'd done, and since this was a practice piece I tried to fit Bloodi's features onto this more wolflike face.

| Image: syn-BloodhoundOmegaII.jpg
623x485 66806 bytes 2004.10.18
Bloodhound Omega Version II: the second of four pics I did for his creator. I was unhappy with the first version I'd done of Bloodi, so I tried a full-body-shot next. I once again went with an overall wolflike appearance, but gave him a shorter back, fuller neck-ruff, small beard, and other assorted markings specific to the character. Again I wasn't happy with it, so on to Version III... Pencil on cardstock.
| Image: syn-BloodhoundOmegaIII.jpg
716x470 87502 bytes 2004.10.18
Bloodhound Omega Version III: the third of four pics I did for his creator. I STILL wasn't happy with the previous pics, so this time I pushed things even more (fluffier tail, bigger claws, fuller face, elbow-tufts, etc).
| |
| Image: syn-BloodhoundOmegaIV.jpg
504x648 158883 bytes 2004.10.18
Bloodhound Omega Version IV: the fourth of four pics I did for his creator. Finally I gave up and just went for it - I drew what I saw in my mind's eye when I envisioned the character, and didn't worry about trying so hard to be realistic. Here Bloodi has his three-fingers-and-a-thumb front paws, huge claws, fluffy tail, elbow-tufts, etc. The one thing I left out was the top spike of his collar; it kept looking more like a weird horn than a collar-spike.

471x648 102645 bytes 2004.10.13
Japanese Bobtail: my half of a trade with Starfallz (NOTE: I can't take any new trades now - sorry!). She asked for "something Japanese", and I wanted to try something different, so I went for a very stylized, graphic, almost cut-paper-like look, especially with the clothing - I purposely wanted it to look flat. I wanted a bit of the paper to show through, too. The cleavage wasn't done to be "sexy"; I liked the white space of her chest, but it looked too empty otherwise. Gouache and colored pencil on toned paper, touchups in Photoshop..
| Image: syn-BrightOne.jpg
415x255 70218 bytes 2000.07.20
Bright-One (Lion): 1990, Prismacolor markers & a white Deco-color paint pen. A stylized companion-piece to "Sun-Child." From my intense "lion phase". ;D Obviously this was not based on "The Lion King", as I did it years before.

Caerrick & Dalia! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LONNIE!!!!!!! :D
| Image: syn-Caerrick.jpg
237x360 62276 bytes 2000.12.06
Caerrick: 9/2000, gouache on black illustration board. Commission of the anthro winged tiger/griffin/stallion, who has brought down a large hoofed animal (it was requested the piece be gory, but not overly so). I wanted to give him a stylized, "iconic" look. He's actually supposed to have a black-furred-and-feathered upper half, not a tiger-striped one. It's a pretty big pic, for me, at 11" x 14"; it was too big to fit on my scanner, so the sides are cropped off. I referred to the gorgeous pics by Cara Mitten, Amy Fennell and Julie Wondra for details. Caerrick is copyright J. Scott "Skorzy" Rogers.
| Image: syn-Caerrick2002.jpg
648x494 93007 bytes 2004.10.13
The Giant Floating Head of Caerrick! Drawn for the ultra-cool Skorzy's birthday in 2002; the neck-feathers look vaguely scale-like (note: my own interpretation). I tried for a more horse-like head than in my earlier painting of him, but kept it looking predatory, and I tried to make his eye really stand out. Pencil on cardstock, Photoshop coloring.
| Image: syn-CelticLionAC.jpg
495x576 343650 bytes 2002.07.11
Celtic Lion II. Pencil, watercolor, gouache, colored pencil. As promised, here he is in color. Years back, I painted in this style a lot; but I hadn't painted since 2000's "Caerrick", and I had forgotten how much I LOVE to do it!
| Image: Syn-Cerberus.jpg
430x507 63442 bytes 2001.07.26
Cerberus will always be one of my favorite classic monsters of mythology (like the Minotaur, the Chimera, and so on). This sketch of him was for a were/fantasy 'zine online. mechanical pencil on sketch paper.
| Image: syn-Cheetahchar.jpg
413x504 81201 bytes 2001.07.03
Here's a dye-sub printout from a scan of a gouache painting from 1995 of a cheetah I did in college *whew!* It served the dual purpose of being a stamp pic for an assignment, and being the portrait of an online friend. Heh - 32 cents for a stamp! Dig the yellow-green sun....
| Image: syn-chillymouse.jpg
509x576 60306 bytes 2002.02.23
Chilly Mouse! Simply because she ROCKS! - and I do not. Further proof I'm not a cartoonist myself, though I DO really respect anyone who can draw cartoons - it's hard work! Pencil, mouse-colored (of course!) in Photoshop.
| Image: syn-ChrisSawyerharpy.jpg
260x432 86097 bytes 2004.10.13
An overdue thank-you for Chris Sawyer - here's a harpy-type eagle. There was a pic in Zoobooks of a gorgeous blue-eyed eagle that I'd wanted to paint; here's my interpretation (which is not meant to be any particular type of eagle; this is a fantasy creature). The hand is more human-like on purpose, and the feather is because... I need practice with feathers. I tried a flatter, illustrative style and kept the feathers simple so they didn't "clog up" (the piece is small - about 3.6" x 6"). Pencil, gouache on watercolor stock.
| Image: syn-Cloudcatman.jpg
163x215 34839 bytes 2000.07.14
Clouded-leopard-type Man: 1994, pen. Just a simple drawing; I wasn't basing it off anything - it was just out of my head.
| Image: syn-CoraBday.jpg
648x615 83818 bytes 2001.11.16
Coragule's having her cake... but maybe not eating it (that's a pretty ugly cupcake). If only I was as good at drawing snack-treats as I am at eating them! I had fun doing a sort of "super-deformed" Cora - I hope she doesn't mind! (BTW: THANKS NAT!!!!) Pencil, mouse-colored in Photoshop (as they all are, lately).
