Caerrick & Dalia! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LONNIE!!!!!!! :D

Black No.1: pencil, 3/2001. Inspired (but not posed for) by my then-boyfriend-now-husband :D (he has great arms). He's a combination of things I love to draw - big cats, big muscles, and big hair. I LOVE B&W makeup (like that worn by The Crow, Robert Smith of The Cure, etc.). I don't usually do stuff like this, but it was good practice.

285x450 42229 bytes 2001.03.06
/2001, pencil (as usual). An assortment of canine/lupine paws done by request for Zee; there's an anthro-dingo head, too. I draw hands and paws on anthropomorphic animals lots of different ways; variety is the spice of life. :)

Eric & Michael. Picture 1 of 4 for the story "Drowning in Moonlight" by the very kind & helpful (and talented!) Andrija Popovic, an individual who has my full respect. This story appears in issue #3 of ANTHROLATIONS - The Magazine of Anthropomorphic Dramatic Fiction. (check out www.sofawolf.org!) Special thanks to Brer (editor/publisher/layout design) for all HIS help, kindness, and UNENDING PATIENCE! :D The scans he did of my pencil art actually look better in the magazine than the ones I've posted here (per his permission).

Mike & Storm. Pic 2 for "Drowning in Moonlight". "He hugged the 'saur as if Storm was the last, good thing in the universe..." Thanks again to Andrija for all HIS help when I had questions! :D

Michael. Pic 3 for "Drowning in Moonlight". "Growling in frustration, he covered his eyes and collapsed onto the floor..."

Eric & Lorie. Pic 4 for "Drowning in Moonlight". "Eric tumbled over the sofa arm, landing on top of her. She laughed..." I tried to make Eric's features rougher and more masculine when compared to Lorie's. I wasn't sure what kind of feline to make Lorie, so I ended up basing her appearance off of my female cat-character Lorelei, but added generic stripes.

1/22/2001, pencil. For the wonderful Amy Fennell, depicting one of her Cats of the Lodestone.

Rusti! Art trade with Anita Palmisano. She's based off of Anita's pic at http://elfwood.lysator.liu.se/loth/p/a/palmisano/wolf2.jpg.html . Check out the rest of her gallery there as well! Rusti is supposed to be in top shape, so I looked at fitness magazines before starting this one. Looking back, I think I might make her look more wolf-like in regards to her face and tail; at the time I did this I wasn't sure if her proportions should be more "furry" or "werewolfy".

Hairy B: 2000, pencil. Just a generic Hairy Beast.

237x360 62276 bytes 2000.12.06
Caerrick: 9/2000, gouache on black illustration board. Commission of the anthro winged tiger/griffin/stallion, who has brought down a large hoofed animal (it was requested the piece be gory, but not overly so). I wanted to give him a stylized, "iconic" look. He's actually supposed to have a black-furred-and-feathered upper half, not a tiger-striped one. It's a pretty big pic, for me, at 11" x 14"; it was too big to fit on my scanner, so the sides are cropped off. I referred to the gorgeous pics by Cara Mitten, Amy Fennell and Julie Wondra for details. Caerrick is copyright J. Scott "Skorzy" Rogers.

414x435 65334 bytes 2000.08.02
Lovecat: 1992, gouache on black illustration board. One of those things you do at 2 AM. Oh, uh... yes it IS who you think it is, ha ha!
| Image: syn-Winter.jpg
321x450 54829 bytes 2000.08.02
Winter: 1999, Photoshop v. 4.0. For my Honey; fun with filters & unreal horse-anatomy. "All the white horses have gone ahead/I tell you that I'll always want you near..." (with apologies to Tori Amos)
| Image: syn-SunChild.jpg
319x510 89480 bytes 2000.08.02
Sun-Child (Jaguar): 1990 (uploaded 2000), A stylized companion-piece to "Bright One." Prismacolor markers & a white Deco-color paint pen - the materials I used in high school and in college, before I had practice painting. Blend and blend and blend.... This sort of symbolic thing was pretty typical of my stuff then.
| Image: syn-Kyrie.jpg
491x750 317811 bytes 2000.08.02
Kyrie (The Faedh Fiada or The Cry of the Deer): 1995, pen on parchment. This pic of a stylized elk was for Rafeki, who liked my earlier thesis-pic of Cernunnos (and framed it beautifully for me). On his antlers are a stylized Cernunnos in his humanoid form, the head of Rafeki-raccoon, a fox, a side view of a pantherine Syn's head, and a ram-headed serpent, among other things. The quote translates as something like "He lets out a cry...", and the lines are a name in Ogham. Three dots in a triangle mean "sacred".

363x510 124166 bytes 2000.08.02
More-Than-A-Fox: 1992, oil. I did this in a few hours as a test for myself, and to try out some new techniques. The hand-paw is at an odd angle, and it's not an entirely-true portrait of a fox (note the pinkish nose, etc.) on purpose, to represent that it's more than just a mere fox - it's a creature of magic, of fantasy. Though realism is cool, it's fun to bend the rules.
| Image: syn-LionPirate.jpg
388x450 124145 bytes 2000.08.02
Lion Pirate: 1993, Photoshop v.2.0. Another early attempt; this was done before Photoshop had layers, so I had to color OVER the inked lines rather than UNDER them, as I do now. Part of a birthday gift for Ddarcfyre; he's toasting with a root beer. There's some alcoholic drink with a pirate-guy logo/character who looks similar, I think (Captain Morgan...?), but when I created this I didn't have anything particular intentionally in mind. However, this probably would have been a lot better if 1. I drew it at home instead of my lunch break, and 2. if I used references (back then we artists didn't have corbis.com or webshots.com online - we had to go to the LIBRARY).
| Image: syn-lionhead.jpg
310x400 81886 bytes 2000.08.02
Lionhead: 1993, Photoshop. One of my first attempts at coloring on Photoshop - heh heh, on version 2.0, before the "layers" option was available, so I had to color OVER the inked lines rather than UNDER them. He's stylized kind of like a doorknocker, I think. I painted him on a denim jacket eventually.
| Image: syn-ForRaf2.jpg
428x510 82228 bytes 2000.08.02
Anthro-wolf male and raccoon-panther female: 1995, pen. Part of a "rush" commission for a story by Rafeki del Armes. BOY, this is old - it's an example of the way I drew "animal-people" back then. I worked from his descriptions as close as I could.
| Image: syn-BrightOne.jpg
415x255 70218 bytes 2000.07.20
Bright-One (Lion): 1990, Prismacolor markers & a white Deco-color paint pen. A stylized companion-piece to "Sun-Child." From my intense "lion phase". ;D Obviously this was not based on "The Lion King", as I did it years before.
| Image: syn-Bataar.jpg
501x345 105195 bytes 2000.07.20
Tarbosaurus Bataar: 1992, gouache on black illustration board. Dinosaurs are yet ANOTHER life-long passion of mine; they were among the first things I EVER drew! I reconstructed him from skulls I'd seen, though I'm sure by now, 13 years later, it may be a bit out-of-date with current theory! That's his hip-bone there, too. A Tarbosaurus is a tyrannosaur; it was slightly lighter-bodied than Tyrannosaurus Rex.
| Image: syn-Fury.jpg
371x418 177493 bytes 2000.07.20
Fury (Do Not Contest Me For I Will Destroy You): 1992, oil on canvas paper. This was just an exercise for a paint media class - I hadn't really painted in oils before this, and it shows! ;( Anyway, we were just supposed to blend background colors, but I got carried away... There is no "straight-from-the-tube" black paint in this pic; it's all dark blues and purples, tho' it's hard to tell from the scan.
| Image: syn-vision.jpg
300x360 82804 bytes 2000.07.19
Vision: 1993 Pencil sketch. This is more of an allegory than an actual pic of a character, though her mane/hair, tail, and face do look quite similar to Synnabar; it's not supposed to be sexy or anything. The floating sphere is something I have used numerous times in my art - here it helps represent someone wanting to share their visions with the world, while still wanting to protect them from rejection. An online friend said he got it as a tattoo.
| Image: syn-Sabertooth01.jpg
370x415 71240 bytes 2000.07.19
Sabertooth Tiger (Smilodon, sorta): 1997, pencil. Though certainly out of step with current prehistoric-bic-cat-reconstruction theories, this was still fun, and that's that. (Yes, I didn't draw pupils.)
| Image: syn-FireTiger.jpg
364x450 154907 bytes 2000.07.19
Fire Tiger: pen, 1996. Red Pen + NIN = Strange Poses.
| Image: syn-Hmmm.jpg
300x431 69054 bytes 2000.07.19
Hmmmmmmm...: 1997, pencil. 8-1/2" x 11" original. Are his eyes open or closed...? I couldn't decide. He's that same white lion guy who appears elsewhere in my work.
| Image: syn-DireCon.jpg
328x350 189277 bytes 2000.07.14
Dire Consequences (Sabretooth & Dire Wolf): 1995, various pens. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE wolves, but at the time I drew this, it meant something...

311x360 260382 bytes 2000.07.14
Tiger God (Red): 1995, pen. I LOVE Indonesian art, and I hope to do a painting of him someday, or at least something along this theme.
