Important thing for artists to nore is that her nose turns noticeably downwards, her legs, hair and face are all deep chocolate brown with black pencilled details rather than true black, and he face markings are not typical for the species. (Modified to give her more individuality.) Broad, stocky and soft body rather than "fat", she is quite strong with muscles under the padding...

	Image: p-roughs.jpg 600x452 88592 bytes 2000.11.12 The roughs for the portraits. I am actually violating a personal rule by putting these here, but I rather liked the way they turned out. These were done freehand with a ball point pen, and do a good job of showing how my roughs are done- starting out like this with a pen, so I am not tempted to try to use the first version and refine it- and leave a ton of pencil crud on the paper, making finishing a problem. It also shows how much they can change from rough to finished version. Hinoki in this one looks esecially wild- but more normal in the color version. I do not use photoshop, by the way- this is all done tradtionally, using hand art tools. I normally throw these roughs away when I'm done with them, as they have no value and are usually of little interest.

Again, a bit of a tame pose considering what she is usually doing. This and the Hinoki piece were a bit more rushed than I like to do- but I was under a very short deadline, and if I didn't get them both finished in 8 hours, I wouldn't be able to scan them for who knows how long. Still, I don't think they turned out too bad....
