Another lousy scan via polaroid, but for the time being, it's really all I can do. This is based off an old drawing of mine. I still like the pose and figure and wanted to play with it. The background is from a Japanese cloth pattern book and is meant to represent a waterfall. 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: eddie2.jpg   309x463 38742 bytes 2002.04.01

This is slightly out of focus as it's scanned from a polaroid. Big painting. It's another one of the same character from an earlier painting, Eddie. He's the fictional lead of a fictional band. Acrylic on canvas, and like 30x36.

Image: meascoyote.jpg   346x528 40990 bytes 2002.03.15

This is probably my favorite of recent attempts. It's a self portrait, painted in the bathroom mirror (note the shower curtain in the background) over a series of days. The coyote head, all blue is meant to look pasted on. That and its color are symbolic of various things. The contrast in colors is also deliberate. The canvas in the painting is in fact the one I was painting on at the time, the one on which this image sits. Image 2002 Thomas Blue.

This is a commission for a coworker who's not even a fur. He saw the sketch and asked me to paint it for him. This one's really hard to see, and isn't nearly this bright in person. Again, fault of no one. Acrylic on canvas. Image 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: graftiger.jpg   354x452 38676 bytes 2002.03.15

Third and last in the graffitti series. The chalkdust on this one made it look more weathered than either of the others. I think it gives it a touch more feeling, too. Like the others, chalk, crayon, acylic on canvas. Image 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: grafleo.jpg   384x526 44243 bytes 2002.03.15

This is the second in the graffiti series. Again, too big to scan, it suffers a bit from this photo. I might do a little bit more with the lettering on this one before con. Just trying to go for a street art look. Image 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: cheetahbball.jpg   341x534 26812 bytes 2002.03.15

Not a great scan, but it's from a photo; the painting is far too big to scan. This is an experiment in minimalism. I tried to convey as much as possible with just use of color. The picture is dull and off kilter. Blame winter sun partially. Image 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: coyote.jpg   281x357 29194 bytes 2002.02.02

A bit more graffitti stuff. He looks a little sadder than I was hoping, but perhaps I'll fix the expression later. Drips (which remind a coworker of Herring, which was unintentional) and random coloring, acrylic, chalk and crayon. 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: graffitti.jpg   349x423 43766 bytes 2002.01.23

I got a book fro Christmas called "Scrawl 2" which is photos of "progressive street art." It's a step beyond graffitti per se, and there's some amazingly cool stuff in it. I don't have the courage to actually -do- graffitti, but I admire those that do. Acrylic, crayon and chalk. 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: bigcat4.jpg   265x529 28170 bytes 2002.01.17

Last one. This one has a little bit the feel of a Tijuana Jesus, I think. :D Again, same photo, same program. 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: bigcat3.jpg   265x529 24220 bytes 2002.01.17

Second in the series, same photo, same program, different cat and colors. Wish I could get colors that bright in real life. :D 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: bigcat2.jpg   265x529 30181 bytes 2002.01.17

Part one of a three parter, I cheated a bit as this is painted over a photo in Painter. This one is my favorite of the bunch, I think. 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: xmascard.jpg   357x464 49138 bytes 2002.01.08

This year's Holiday card. Non-denominational, it's just supposed to be a bit of winter fun between otters. From a ballpoint sketch to Illustrator. 2002 Thomas Blue.

Image: bunny.jpg   400x500 23505 bytes 2001.10.26

Nobunny in particular, painted to look slightly out of focus. All digital, Painter Classic. 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: theblues.jpg   285x358 31980 bytes 2001.10.26

All blue, acrylic on board. My mom liked this one (?), so now it hangs in her house. Yay moms! I wasn't happy with the graphitti per se, and have repainted this with better lettering, but with a figure I don't like as much. Ah, well. 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: paintedcougar1.jpg   500x500 25923 bytes 2001.10.26

This is another file done entirely through Painter Classic. It's no one in particular. I just wanted to play with the watercolor features and the scratch tool. 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: motter.jpg   366x257 33296 bytes 2001.10.26

RBG crayon, this is an abstract Mercury (otter). He's wearing red leather, looking over his shoulder. Crayons, when they're just right, blend like a dream. 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: jade.jpg   285x360 27513 bytes 2001.10.26

This was a rejected t-shirt idea that I worked into a painting. Acrylic on board. I think it needs a few more spots; it's a bit too minimalistic. 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: clockcat.jpg   301x284 24958 bytes 2001.10.26

Crayon, a piece I did while sitting at the art auction of AC 2000. Just based on a spiral. 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: eddie.jpg   428x528 33652 bytes 2001.10.24

The last painting done under the name Kamen Kyote (though the sig has been photoshopped here). This is Eddie, lead singer of a band that never was. Think of Counting Crows mixed with Portishead. This one hangs above my bed. Acrylic on canvas. 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: dicey.jpg   284x359 36500 bytes 2001.10.24

This scan came out a little contrasty. It's the firedogs, Dicey and Scruffy, done as a gift for Paf. Acrylics on canvas. This is probably my most cubist piece. 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: bracken.jpg   429x537 38473 bytes 2001.10.24

This is a portrait done of one of my characters, someone that didn't totally work out on tapestries. I was trying to play with mono- and duo-chromes, and chose red and blue for contrast reasons. The patterns in the back represent water and snow, the former taken from a book of Japanese fabric designs from the 17th and 18th centuries. I think this one now hangs in Cali somewhere. Acrylic on canvas. 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: 1311b.jpg   600x500 54455 bytes 2001.10.23

This is my half of a picture trade with Bill. It's all done on Painter. I think its meaning is ambiguous, which is good. Character 2001 Bill McEvoy image 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: turn.jpg   352x436 31081 bytes 2001.09.27

This is a leftover from AC (priced too high) done in acrylic and crayon. Originally, there was supposed to be text running up the left hand side of the picture that said, "turn around, the world's behind you," but when it came time to paint, the words no longer fit the composition. It's a little off as it required 8 passes through the scanner due to size. Image 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: yote6.jpg   388x511 38600 bytes 2001.08.30

I removed the old version of this as I had forgotten to add a tail. This is something I used to forget all the time, strangely enough. For want of a better avatar, this is me. This was originally done in Illustrator, but I forgot to draw in RGB so couldn't save the pic as a gif, hence the slightly muddy jpeg. There's a bit of symbolism here reflecting some of my life choices as well as bits of things I ponder inside. Though online, T' is a wolf, at heart, I'm still a coyote. Image 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: singer.jpg   400x500 34873 bytes 2001.08.10

I was watching a bit of REM on "Unplugged," then decided to retreat to the room and pull up Painter again. This time, I thought I'd play with the pencils and chalk. There's a little water color and blending thrown in as well. All digital. Image 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: angryferret.jpg   400x500 21735 bytes 2001.08.10

Fourth in a recent series using Painter Classic. This one came by accident as I was trying to figure out how to use the pallette knives. Duh. You have to apply color -first-. Just an angry ferret. Image 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: sadyote.jpg   400x400 25313 bytes 2001.08.09

I did this picture the other day when feeling low. I hadn't pulled out my graphics tablet or Painter Classic in a long time, and I don't know why. This is a wonderful program, extremely cheap these days as it comes -with- the tablet. And no mess! All digital. Image copyright 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: eyeyote.jpg   500x500 37273 bytes 2001.08.09

This is the second recent bit done with Painter Classic. I love that program. This was not meant to be the 'comedy' to the other's 'tragedy,' but it struck me that way on my bike ride to work today. I miss my inner 'yote. Image copyright 2001 Thomas Blue.

Image: torsop.jpg   285x353 25882 bytes 2001.07.06

This one's pretty abstract. I did this as I was mucking and saw that certain parts of incoming characters' descriptions would get more attention than others. Oh, it's an otter. Acrylic on canvas. Image 2001 Thomas Blue.
