Polarex the phoenix of ice and snow. Yes I know ice is a water element, but I felt that the properties of what they do are different enough to make a distinction. Polarex here is a snowy owl. copyright S.Howard 2003

Genex the earth phoenix. Back in middle school I had this concept of doing elemental characters (thanks to Captain Planet) that were all birds. The drawings I did of them thing were just generic looking birds made out of the element they represented, like a water bird, a fire bird, a bird made out of dirt and grass. Well of those only Phenix at that time became a more detailed useable character. Well, I've gone back, opened up those old sketchbooks and redesigned them. Here's just one. Copyright S. Howard 2003 (and yes, she's a secretary bird)

Zoe another fan character. I like drawing the more unusual morphs and bats are one of them. I'm not the type that adds the wings on the bat's back or part of the wrist. My bat's wings are actually their fingers (just like real bats, but they have a thumb and one other finger for regular gripping. Zoe is just one of 2 bat characters from the fan spinoffs. They have Yahoo Groups of their own. One called GSIF and one called Extinctioners Season II. Zoe copyright her creator, art and Extinctioners copyright S.Howard 2003.

Specter and Sweety Pop. Two more fan Extinctioners characters. These were fun to do cause I like doing herps and I need to work on my rabbits. Though, I just realized I forgot the two stripes on Specter's nose so I'll have to correct that and eventually rescan. Darn. Characters copyright their respective creators. Art and Extinctioners copyright S. Howard 2003.

Spawned by a couple of fans on the Yahoo Group's Club Extinctioners, spinoff teams of the Extinctioners were created over the past year or so. Many of the fans have created some rather interesting characters with even more interesting abilities. Since they were drawing so many pictures to the fan section of the club, I decided recently to do my renditions of the characters (a benefit of being a member). Here are 2 Delphi the dolphin and Splash the shark. Each copyright their respective creators, Extinctioners and art copyright S.Howard 2003.

Catrina Fela, older sister of Katherine Fela. Member of the Extinctioners, Vague possess the abilities of Invisibility. This goes beyond just sight, her powers creates a sound damping field around her as well kills any scent signals she may naturally give off making her totally invisible to the scenes other than touch. She's extremely unpredictable and can suddenly go into fits of extreme violence. Like to see more of her? She's got her own Yahoo fan club out there. Copyright S. Howard 2003

At one point I was going to make model sheets for my Lost Angles Police Department's Official Guardian Squadron characters, but like many things I have a habit of having a short attention span and never got around the finishing them. The purpose was to job out the art responsibilities to other artists for backup stories in my comic, but of course visual reference would have been needed for that. I've got another penciled, but that's all. character's copyright S.Howard 2003.

My favorite picture of Satoru_Aka and his pet snake. This was a 14x17 pen & ink and marker drawing done for AC acouple of years ago. I had forgotten to take a picture of it, but the buyer was nice enough to send me scans in pieces. I had to put it together again and think I did a pretty good job. Oh, and there are AUCTIONS up on FURBID. Go see http://www.furbid.ws/cgi-bin/auction.pl?justdisp&Ebonyleopard

As cooky as this may sound, my ultimate goal in the world of anthropomorphic comics is to be THE best and most consistant anthro comic artist around. Why do I say that? Because if I'm going to put the amount of hours and dedication into what's required to do a 48 page comic, the to my personal standards it better well be the best I got that will totally impress not only fans of this genre, but also out of it. THis pic was one I did for CACE which didn't sale (thankfully couse I want to color it). Its not a cute female or an necessary handsome male. this pic is about pure power and strength and also showcasing my abilities to ink my own work (yes S I don't need help because I can't, just cause it's it helps time wise) and show mad details. The tank he's standing on is actually the TF Armada Megatron (I got the toy, very cool). No way is anyone going to claim this BAMF (Big Ass Mo FO) as their own, but in case they try, Warfare is copyright S.Howard 2002. Don't redistribute, link.

And to show that the folio isn't full of only males, here's one of the many females in the folio. This one has a more step by step process example to it. Is my way of drawing canines the only and correct way? Of course not, there are many ways to do so, some far better than mine, but this is after all "MY" folio about how "I" do it. Anyway, Domino Doz here is also from the LAPDOGS story. She will be a rookie bicycle officer. Domino copyright S.Howard 2002 Don't redistribute, link.

Cover Collection: New Horizons issue 5, SFA's anthology book. This cover sports Sega and his lioness love. Created by Mark Merlino, this character and his first story (which appeared in New Horizons 1) was my very first comic assignment and the first time I was ever published (and perhaps my most challenging 5 page story I've ever drawn). Lets just say I watched a lot of Lion King during that assignment. Characters (C) Mark Merlino

Cover Collection: Thorin solutes you. This was the first of three connectable covers which was supposed to be put together for one whole scene. The printers edged the ends a bit so it's sligthly off. The only thing I regret during my inital Katmandu run was I didn't really get the chance to work with Thorin and Leahtrah as much as I would have liked to. Katmandu (C) Carole Curtis

Cover Collection: I like the effects Shane managed to get with this cover. this cover design also marked the first time I ever had a piece of my work copied and posted somewhere as somebody elses. Cover collection: Though I don't know if many people noticed during this particular story arch and all the ones that interrelated with the Terrie Smith run of the book, I did a lot of cross referencing with Terrie's work to make the environment that I had to draw match that of the one she did. A lot of work, but then not many noticed. Katmandu (C) Carole Curtis
