I think this will stand as perhaps my favorite cover for Katmandu I did. Looking back at it, It's funny or realize that I was only 19 when I started on Katamadu. Katmandu copyright Carole Curtis

Cover collection, the following couple of postings will be a collection of comic covers that I've done in announcement of the brand new Shanda Fantasy Arts and of course what better place to start with my first full time comic assignment, Katmandu 10 colored and inked by Shane Fisher (he does all the colors on all these covers btw). Characters copyright Carole Curtis. Oh SFA's new site is at

This is the cover design (flat colors at the moment) for a CD I'm working to put together for AC. It'll feature the first official Soundtrack for the Extinctioners comic, thanks to fan Joshua the Samuri who write and preformed the songs. If I can figure out how to do it, it'll also be a split CD that will also feature artwork. No official title fo the CD has been though up yet though. Extinctioners (C) S. Howard

Bumbling no more and often falling prey to her own scheme's Zora is a calculating, visious and darn sexy hottie now. Now that she wasn't before, but when I started writing the character she just started getting meaner and meaner with each panel and boy I gotta tell you I like it. She's the boss and there's no questioning it, get in line or get stomped on. Its funny how sometimes characters write themselves without even trying. I do hope I'm doing Ken proud with my version of her. Go to his VCL account under Ken Singshow to see her and the rest of her crew. Andorozons copyright Ken Singshow and Karabiner copyright Den.

Its turning Japanese, yes Its turning Japanese I really think so. From issues 11 to 13 Extinctioners will have a bit of a Japanese flavor. That is there'll be a crossover with Japanese Artist Ken Singshow's Andorozons and each issue will sport a cover done by 3 well known Japanses Artists in the fandom (the first by Ken himself, the second by Karabiner and the third is still in the negotiation phase). I love having the chance to draw and play with the Andorozons and their foes the Evil Cat Sisters. Normally they all play off like a comedy, but my version will sport a very more intense version of these happy go lucky characters. I already think I'm falling in love with Zora as a Class A villianese. Meyow. And getting the chance to draw the amazing Den's fursona Karabiner is also a treat. Action from over seas. Yay (and yes, I've already got 11 pages done of the 28 mainstory pages so this issue will actually make it out for its June release on time for a change unless my hands fall off this time, now that they're feeling better to draw). Characters copyright Ken Singshow and Den, art S. Howard 2002.

Ever wonder what one of my pages look like before its inked, well here it is. I used to, once blueline sketched, go over the work with a regular leaded pencil. Now, i just do all the detail with an either .5 or .7 mechanical pencil blue lead (which ain't the easiest stuff to find mind you).\r\nThe artwork is done on llx17 Pro Blue Line pages, which are 2ply bristle, with an actual art drawing area of 10x15. I buy these pre-bordered paper from my local comic shop. No, I don't have to use these for doing comics, I could just get normal bristle, line and cut them to size, but its more time saving already having guidelines ready for borders. Since the image was larger than my scanner I had to piece two halves together thus the faded center. Art S. Howard characters Ken Singshow.

With each comic I do there's one page I usually like over all others and this one is it for issue 10. For that fact it ranks up their witht he page from issue 2 as my alltime favorite. With this page I went a different riot with the visuals for the characters making them look way more realistic than they normally do. This is what they look like when on the mental plane of reality. This baby sent me through 3 non-photo blue mechanical pencil leads, but oh it was worth it, and Steve did a great job doing the inks on those feathers. And of course the special effects by Mitch seals the deal. S. Howard 2002 (NEED MORE AVIANS IN THIS FANDOM).

Enough of the old, lets look at the new. Samples from the up coming issue 10. I've been told that it made it to the printers this week so hopefully, HOPEFULLY, it'll be shipped next week. I can't wait for it to come out anymore than the readers can. A new team on the current issues now. Pencils by me, inks by the talented Steve Addlesee (Fawn in New Horizons, Shanda inker), and the very cool Mitch Sonota (artists of the comic Wild Frontier) doing greytoning. Yup, its back and looks awsome. Extinctioners copyright S. Howard 2002.

Perhaps my best "spaceship" like drawing. The SolarFox (the name of the ship that gives the group its name) escaping certain doom from Issue 1 Vol.1. I love this picture not only because it show's the SF clearly, but the effects Sully and Blummrich put ont he exploding fire balls looks awsome.\r\n\r\nSince though the SF has gotten an update and redesign by Max Blackrabbit in the Fox Hunt, backup story currently running in the book. Solarfox copyright S. Howard.

Ooh, look at the pretty lights in the sky, unfortunatly this is the last thing these Vulpins would see in the colored first issue of Extinctioners. I got letters about this one. Folks were kinda upset about what happened to the vixen int he foreground and the kit in the background.\r\n\r\nA panel from perhaps my proudest achievement as a comic artists, my first comic which made it in color. Not a lot of independent artists can say that, especially anthro artists. Wonderful color done by BLumrich and Sully (now if Eric will only take this issue off his Hall of Shame page. It got published man!) S. Howard 2002

Image: ish2gt1.jpg   354x550 54725 bytes 2002.04.18

I think this is one of my favorite pages I've done. Mostly because it perfectly shows the anthropomorphic qualities of the character. Katherine, while trying to sneek though a vent shaft, finds she's too heavy for one of the panels and falls through. Rather than falling busting her butt and head on the ground, her cat reflexes allows her to twist and arranger herself to safely land on all four. I love the layout of this page too. Howard,Earle, Sully, Blummrich 1998-2002.

Image: ish2gt2.jpg   386x600 82224 bytes 2002.04.18

More old work from 1996. I just realized, that while'll I've done 15 issues of Katmandu, 11 issues of Extinctioners (including the Vision one), about 6 New Horizons, 2 Magic Carpets, a spot in In the Zone, the American Journal of Anthropomoprhics, a Wild Side, and a couple appearances in Hit the Beach I've still got terrible PR (heh). Folks are still asking in surprise that I do anthro art, SO I figure I need to up my net exposure more to get on some of those fav artists list. So I plan to do a lot more uploading from now on. This image from (the now published Extinctioners Vol.2 #1 minus the toning) was done by me, Max, Sully, and Blummrich.

Image: ish2gt3.jpg   386x600 71391 bytes 2002.04.18

Had this one removed from Yerf once. This joint work by me (penicls), Max Blackrabbit (inks), Sully and Blummrich (digital greytoning) was done for the second issue of Extinctioners that was supposed to come out through Vision Comics but never did (though it did come out in pure b&w through Shanda as VOl.2 #1). Fortunately the files for the whole book in its greytoned fashion was saved, but I as told that these were actually once in color but those files were lost. Darn. Anyway, Characters and art by S.Howard. Collab work Earle, Arsaunlt (sorry if I misspelled), and Blumrich

The winner of the 2001, first annual, Ms. Alden beauty pagent, Ms. Artica Lagopus, so voted for by the fans on yahoo "groups" Club Extinctioners. Who won this years? Want to find out, gotta join, want to join, gotta write for an invite (cause I accidently made the group unlisted).Copyright 2002 S. Howard

Image: samplethis.jpg   450x891 89569 bytes 2002.04.16

Heh, don't ask what inspired this. Lets just say someone had issues with me putting the word "sample" over some art I was auctioning and I put up on an archive as notice. Done back prior to my wrist injury when I could really play with photoshop a lot more.

Image: onice.jpg   340x400 26065 bytes 2002.04.16

Last year I had this little spurt with working with colored pencils, wish I'd stuck with it. But here's a more realistic looking Artica in a blue phase (or the start of one). Copyright S.Howard 2002.

She is perhaps my most popular character. Why, I have no idea to be honest, but this little ice vixen has won over a many fan's heart. And to think, I originally had no plans of ever showing her again after the end of the first story line. Goes to show how fans can influence a writer sometimes and for the best. Artica copyright S.Howard 2002

Satoru Aka, a character I play on Tapestry and soon character in my comic. He's a bit of a playboy this redpanda. Always gunning for the ladies with his charm and wild ways. His pet snake at his side for protection, a theft of hearts and cash. Satoru copyright S. Howard 2002.

Image: labencl.jpg   755x1050 118370 bytes 2002.04.16

Ah, the souless pinup. I see so many artists do the standard pinup work with a rather awsome looking character, but then that's all you'll ever see if that character again. Just an one shot pinup. Well that was almost Laben's fate, way back when this was drawn. Now, I've decided to use her again as the blind Tracker Seek in my comic. Pinups are so much more intersting when there's a story behind them aren't they? Laben copyright S. Howard 1996-2002.

Originally posted on Yerf during Christmas, I figured I'd put it on this gallery too. Got a lot of questions about his one originally. One would of advice, She's cute an all, but Don't eat Phenix's cooking if you know what's good for you. Phoenix's have quite a different sense of what's good than normal folk. Extinctioners copyright S. Howard 2002.

I realized that I haven't been uploading a lot lately and for fear of being forgotten, I better bet my butt in gear if I want to make a dent in the fandom artists. Here's what I believe was my second commission ever for Mr. Firefox. Its Hugo and then named Kirindra. Looks like Kiri got what she wanted at the mall. Art S. Howard 1997-2002, characters copyright Hugo C.

Just expressing myself with art. This was done using a Wacom Tablet (a medium I have not yet begun to master). What's up with this? Well, I feel artists take themselves too seriously sometimes, SO rather than doing a pic in my usually high detailed style I decided to challenge myself and try going simpler, and I tell you this wasn't as easy as it may look. Messages galour in this one. A No Prize to anyone that can figure out just what all this symbolism and what the rat's saying means. Art, Me (Don't have to worry about getting this stolen, but boy am I going to get flamed).

I post these next couple so Ashyrin (man I hope I spelled that right) can get credit for her amazing inking job on these mere sketches of mine. Character and inks Ashyrin, drawing S.Howard.

This was my very first commission ever. Thanks to the American Journal of Anthropomorphics Hugo found me and wrote me a request by snail mail. Imagine a college sophomore suddenly getting mail from someone who wanted them to draw for them. Sigh, those were the days, with so much free time. Now, I have none. Characters copyright Hugo C.

Image: Advice.jpg   660x965 158191 bytes 2002.03.18

Innocent enough, I was going to upload this on Yerf, years ago, but they got that no natual nipple bumps thing going over there, so now about 3 years after this was made I'm finally showing it. Scarlet and Fenidra have a little girl talk. Again, among my first couple of commissions all from the same guy. Scarlet copyright S. Howard, Fenindra copyright Hugo Casares.

Image: Fenis.jpg   795x1016 126451 bytes 2002.03.18

This character, not this picture, was one of the first commissions I had ever done. Thanks to my now good pal Hugo who's doing us all proud. I hope he's well. Fenis is copyright Hugo C.

A human/humanimal team of hunters. Each pair will eventually show up in the Extinctioners comic. While the anthros have names, the humans I'm still working on. Work in progress. Characters copyright S. Howard

A sample from an offer I'm making on furbid where a fan can get prints of 47 pages of unedited artwork from Extinctioners issue 10 and a script to read along with it.\r\nArtwork by Shawntae Howard, inks by Steve Addlesee.

Two samples from a portfolio I did. The second in a series of female Extinctioners characters. Stuff on furbid at\r\n
