Anointing the Lingham
Subject: Akira anoints a Lingham (a symbol of Shiva)

Species: Nekomata
notes: an image that got stuck in my head while at a church weekend (yeah i know you are wondering what kind of church i attend!) It is my character Akira pouring Ghee on the Lingham in Yoni which is a symbol of divine creation. The Lingham is the symbol of Shiva's manhood and the Yoni in which it sits is the female reproductive elements of Parvati/Kali (It represents both the womb and the vagina from which life flows.)
In his hand he holds the Phurba which is a sacred dagger used for demon "slaying" (more of a pin them like a butterfly under glass move really) it is not used in this ritual but it is a object very dear to me.

Notes: pose and such are from my imagination and very little reffernce was used directly at all. the borders are inspired from little pieces of red coral from an antique necklace i found. the thing she is sitting on is based on the Foxtail soft coral. It looks like big inflatable flower and not very much like an aniaml at all or even a fox...

this was a christmas Commision that i rather enjoyed
(nice to have a moment in my life to do art again)
i was told that the Person for whom this was done loves cats and native American stuff (having some cheerokee and blackfoot and comanche blood i was of course interested) I used a mixture of cultures to make this there is no Pure tribe influance for the Bobcat i combined some of the aspects of fancy dancers and grass dancers and for the Cougar i used shawl dancer and the incredible bell dresses as for the rest i have zuni inspired stuff as well as a border using pictoglyphs from newspaper rock (simply an amazing piece of prehistoric art) The purple cat was inspired by Zuni Fetishes the background is Peublo dwellings (i can't remeber just now which tribe) and adobe bricks The arch is taken from an ancient anasazi design and the other border is inspired by some truly gorgeous pottery i found in my internet wanderings for good reffernce
one thing i learned in this is the fact that the copywrite laws and fears of them are simply so darn overboard
i mean Kierstal and I had to actually write a note to the copy place so that Scott (the person that commisioned it) could make some prints for us as well as getting it reduced enough for a future better scan

Subject: A character from a AD&D adventure i was running. Hlaf abomination Yuan-Ti and Medusa. He was not evil and in fact was enslaved to the Evil tyrant in the plot. I cannot remember his naem at all.
