The Nameless One - Trade

One of those rare art trade thingies.
For E.S. Hanninen, who is one of my friends from my college days. Her and I would take 'extended breaks' from our life drawing class to go on search parties around campus to try and find vending machines that had peanut butter M&Ms. Haha... that professor hated me.

I miss those days.

Anyways, one of her Lan characters. I was just given a brief description and basically told to go nuts with it. I hope I got it right - I always feel a little nervous working from descriptions alone since I'm afraid that I'm going to mess things up. >_>

I used a more muted color palette for this, restricting the colors I used to only browns, yellows and purples.

Caloo - Species Concept Commission

Another commissioned piece for an upcoming German RPG forum. This one features the playable Caloo race that resembles anthropomorphic kangaroos.

One of the things that this species is known for is exploration. The other is their technology, which is somewhat advanced for a fantasy world, so I made her clothes a combination of steampunk and Indiana Jones.

I am in love with this picture... you have no idea. I've been wanting to draw a roo for months now. If the client didn't like the sketch then I probably would have claimed the character myself. :p

In any case, this concept will be the base for my Mican species, which are also anthro kangaroos (or at least evolved from them) but are a bit different.

Getting Ready for Takeoff

I'm posting my holiday picture and it's not even Thanksgiving, yet. I'm becoming everything that I haaate!

This is my entry for the November/December 2011 Fantasy X-change round. This time around I got Silverflight's gryphon character, Tura.

This year Santa is riding in style. Using gryphons to pull his sleigh is much more economical then reindeer since apparently one gryphon apparently = the strength of nine reindeer.

I wouldn't listen to him, Tura. You don't know what kind of sweatshop he's been running with his elves for the past few centuries. You're probably going to end up being paid in eggnogg.

The person who was supposed to draw Aenigmatista's character for last month's fantasy exchange was late turning in their assignment so he was put on the adoption list. I decided to pick up the adoption as my good deed of the month.

The person who was supposed to draw for him last month is saying that the work would be done soon... but since I already had this started and really liked it, I decided to finish it anyways. :p

It's his elf character Lyn'Nen. The theme for last month was music any lyrics. One of the songs on the list was a song about a man being taken by an executioner. The song was not in English or French (It was in Ukranian... I think?), so I couldn't understand the lyrics or even find a translation for them, so I went my the mood of the song.

It was a Halloween/Autumn themed round. The movie Labyrinth was mentioned on their sign up sheet so I couldn't resist drawing Barikada as David Bowie's character from that movie.

LOL... I hated the movie itself (give me Dark Crystal anyday!), but David Bowie was a lot of fun and I liked the puppets.

Alchemy and Circuitry - Commission

Commissioned piece of a black dragon anthro with a wing that had been damaged and replaced with prosthetic membranes that combines alchemy and technology.

This was originally supposed to be a standard commission, but I upgraded it to a "panoramic" commission free of charge since I thought it would look epic with full wings!

I had a lot of fun spending a lot of time with this commission and I'm pleased with the final piece.

Cesar - Fantasy Xchange

I am not a very religious person, so don't read too deep into the religious themes. You can make up your own story about this picture, but it's not meant to be overly religious in my mind.

The theme for this round was "Music and Lyrics", and one of the songs that they suggested was "Hallelujah", originally done by Leonard Cohen. It's a very beautiful song, so I had to run with this one.

Avior - Species Concept Commission

Species concept commission for an upcoming German roleplaying forum.

The Avior are an ancient race of bipedal avians. They will be a playable race when the forum is launched. I was given freedom with the design, so I loosely based them off of Phillipine eagles.

Yes, I will provide the web address for the RPG forum when it is finished, though least I talked about the forum's creator, it's not scheduled to come out until late this year or early next year. It will be in German, so you will either have to speak German (which I do not) or have a really good web translator.

Talokun Racing - FAX

For Kitsuchi-chan VIA the Fantasy Art Xchange.

This month's theme was "character interaction", which meant that I had to draw my chosen's character with one of my own. I kept racking my brain on how I was going to draw Djali with Liah without making it too boring. So here they are racing on the back of adolescent talokun.

Do not try this at home, kids. Talokun are actually fierce desert predators. They don't normally hunt out humanoids, but will turn any human dumb enough to get close enough to them as a tasty snack. Liah, however, can get away with this since she is a beastmaster. To get a good idea of what her communication is like, watch the movie, Beastmaster.

Djali seems less then enthused about riding on the back of an overgrown gila monster that can outrun a landspeeder.

I went with the strawberry idea because I wanted to do something super cute and thought the red of the berry would look good with the blue of her main body.

I know your character is slightly bigger then she is shown here... but just pretend that the strawberry has been geneticly engineered to be the size of a mango. XD

My long time watchers should already be familiar with this character! I've been drawing NewEnglander's werebear character for over 6 years now!

This is probably the first time I've drawn her genuinely happy since when she goes into bear mode she's desperately trying to get out of it... usually with humorous results.

I can so hear No Doubt's "I'm Just a Girl" being played in the background. >_>
