I had a hard time getting up this morning.

inchwyrm.jpg
Image: inchwyrm.jpg   650x492 84161 bytes 2004.09.29

The mighty inchwyrm! Mixed media, 8 x 10

battlehamsters.jpg
Image: battlehamsters.jpg   650x499 91265 bytes 2004.09.21

I sing of the berserkers, beloved of the skalds and songsmiths, the great warriors of Thor's domain, smashers of Jotunheim, doers of deeds, wearers of weaselskins! Fearless in fighting, ruthless in raids, fleet of foot and fat of form, the brave berserk, the war-hardened servants of the war-god, the great Battle Hamsters of the North!

fireworkscrow.jpg
Image: fireworkscrow.jpg   254x700 75582 bytes 2004.09.21

I'm not sure of much in life, and I think I get less sure all the time. However, I am still dead certain that if crows could use matches, we'd all be in a world of hurt.

fairygodmouse.jpg
Image: fairygodmouse.jpg   253x700 79875 bytes 2004.09.21

The Fairy Godmouse, who visits downtrodden mice in the night, magically changing the lucky rodent into the prettiest carrier of hantavirus at the ball, and leaving gifts in the silverware drawer for the rest of us.

piedanteater.jpg
Image: piedanteater.jpg   489x650 155645 bytes 2004.09.01

Portrait of the stately (and rather silly) Pied Anteater.

dodogriff.jpg
Image: dodogriff.jpg   700x563 194052 bytes 2004.08.28

I have been wanting to paint a dodo griffin for weeks now. He's obviously pretty polite, though--he isn't even complaining about having to use those mouse-sized teacups. Acrylic, 16 x 20.

discomole.jpg
Image: discomole.jpg   600x448 52965 bytes 2004.08.18

Another small and silly Burch-inspired piece. The starnose mole is dreadfully underrepresented in art, and the Disco starnose is even worse.

redrat2.jpg
Image: redrat2.jpg   650x471 63433 bytes 2004.08.17

Wild stylistic departures are fun! A rat and his acorn, inspired by the fun and kitschy work of Laurel Burch.

worldcollide.jpg
Image: worldcollide.jpg   650x494 69874 bytes 2004.08.15

The pink lizard meets the dodofish!

dodoascent.jpg
Image: dodoascent.jpg   850x491 42642 bytes 2004.08.09

Unable to resist the sketch charms of the bug-eyed dodo-fish, I did a quick watercolor of the Ascent of Dodo.

wombatgear.jpg
Image: wombatgear.jpg   640x635 154434 bytes 2004.07.28

Wombat and Gears--acrylic on clayboard, 12 x 12.

donkeyfish.jpg
Image: donkeyfish.jpg   800x650 208104 bytes 2004.07.08

At long last, after many travails--particularly that awful thing with the water buffalo and the kumquat, he'd be waking up screaming for years after THAT--the hooded donkey had arrived, his goldfish at the ready. Nothing could stop him now!\r\n\r\nAcrylic on cradled clayboard, 11 x 14.

jellyfishhat.jpg
Image: jellyfishhat.jpg   559x700 172555 bytes 2004.07.01

A companion piece to "Cuttlefish Hat." I firmly believe that there is no creature in nature quite so beautiful as the walrus.

pigflies.jpg
Image: pigflies.jpg   600x480 72659 bytes 2004.07.01

Because if pigs could fly--they'd be a real nusiance. Or something like that.

thegrape.jpg
Image: thegrape.jpg   600x480 47192 bytes 2004.06.30

Another quick and silly little 5 x 7 for Anthrocon. This is MY grape!

seasock.jpg
Image: seasock.jpg   600x480 59646 bytes 2004.06.30

Quick and silly mixed media, 5 x 7, for Anthrocon (probably.) I think I'm a little scared of sock puppets.

cuttlefishhat.jpg
Image: cuttlefishhat.jpg   521x700 129394 bytes 2004.06.12

What, you never saw a penguin wearing a cuttlefish hat before?

penguinarabia.jpg
Image: penguinarabia.jpg   560x700 76899 bytes 2004.06.07

"Penguin of Arabia"

polarcourt.jpg
Image: polarcourt.jpg   864x576 136928 bytes 2004.06.03

I actually just wanted to paint checkerboard tile, but once again, I outwitted myself...

plowpotato.jpg
Image: plowpotato.jpg   800x510 98725 bytes 2004.05.17

Farmer Snoggle just couldn't figure it out. The salesman had said that the Plow Potato could clear as much land as a team of oxen, but once he had it in harness, it just laid there. Not even dangling a stick of butter in front of it seemed to get it moving.\r\n\r\nHe was even beginning to suspect that maybe the salesman hadn't been entirely honest with him.

pignlizard.jpg
Image: pignlizard.jpg   700x641 109592 bytes 2004.05.16

Being a tax collector for the warlike Piggy-Wiggy tribe is a lousy job, but somebody's gotta do it.

balloonattack.jpg
Image: balloonattack.jpg   700x560 74101 bytes 2004.05.12

Fed up with the Porcupine Shaman cruelly popping his totems, Norgle, servant of the mighty Balloon Animal spirit, summons a fearsome Battle Balloon, and wreaks a soggy vengeance.

balloontotem.jpg
Image: balloontotem.jpg   560x700 67622 bytes 2004.05.12

The other shamans laughed at Norgle's Balloon Animal Totem, but he'd show 'em. He'd show them all!

slugrider.jpg
Image: slugrider.jpg   720x576 109484 bytes 2004.05.10

The renowned lizard warriors of Etrajen are best known for their hardy desert slugs. From the original cave slug stock, they have created a fearsome battle gastropod, capable of withstanding the heat of the desert and going without water for up to fifteen minutes at a time.

lizardboat.jpg
Image: lizardboat.jpg   800x579 143736 bytes 2004.05.08

An intrepid lizard explorer in the Quinacridone Caves. Mixed media, 9 x 12.

lizardlove.jpg
Image: lizardlove.jpg   482x650 103467 bytes 2004.05.07

I just dig this color scheme.

wangvalley.jpg
Image: wangvalley.jpg   472x650 116237 bytes 2004.05.05

I can explain! Really! All my rock formations always look really phallic, and I figured I'd try to get it out of my system. Err. Yeah. And it needed a horrified lizard to balance it all out. Um. Yeah.

grumpytadpole.jpg
Image: grumpytadpole.jpg   523x650 124281 bytes 2004.05.05

A quick and silly watercolor of a grumpy little tadpole.

vulturebaby.jpg
Image: vulturebaby.jpg   864x594 100640 bytes 2004.05.02

It was a simple idea, really--if storks carry babies, then vultures must carry zombie babies. Right? Right.
