this was my very first HUUUUGE project in 2002. i came across an art contest that called for a winter scene, and i decided to enter. so on new year's eve, i was drawing while following the new year's action on tv, and i CG'd it over the next week or so. by this time it was right down to the contest deadline, so i didn't have time to blur the characters in the foreground & background (which i did later on and is shown in this piece), and i had to do a really quick & shitty background, but i entered it anyways. then i went ahead and entered it in two more contests. it won 1st in all three (yay!) i was also going to find some contests to enter this in the following year, but i never got around to it. oh well, there's always next year.

fun fact #1: each character was drawn on a separate piece of paper, scanned & CG'd separately, and then edited together for the final piece.
fun fact #2: the catgirl in black is my fursona (which keeps changing its appearance 'cause i'm fickle like that).
fun fact #3: the arm throwin' the snowball at the doggie's head doesn't have a body attached to it (also due to time constraints, but nobody seems to have ever noticed that without me pointing it out, so i never took the time to fix it).
fun fact #4 i was gonna make the dot next to the "REC" blinking, like on most camcorders, but decided against it because of file size & loading time.

this drawing was just a quickie so i could play with my watercolor pencils that i've had for a while but was neglecting. and i've gotta say i was disappointed with 'em. in case you live in a non-artistic hole and don't know what these pencils are all about, they're colored pencils that you use like you would any other pencils, except when you're done you slap some water over 'em and the colors blend to look much the same way that regular watercolors look. ideally. except they don't really blend all that well. not the dark colors, anyways. you can still see the pencil lines in the grey (black) and the dark blue, though i tried & tried to blend 'em away. on later pieces i did, i found that the colors blend much better and are much more vivid if you first wet the area you're coloring, then use the pencils, and then wet some more to blend.

i was originally going to extend this design and try selling it to skateboard companies to stick on the undersides of their boards, but i was too lazy. but i promise one of these days i'll make it available off my website as a sticker.

i realize the lines are really icky & grainy. i could fix it, but it'd take more work than it's worth. i promise the sticker will be silky smooth, though. :)

i like this 'un. the expression on her face kinda changes depending on how you look at it, and how you're feeling when you look at it. sometimes she looks sad, and sometimes she looks scornful. and i absolutely loooove how her hair came out.
