In chapter 20 of "Migratory Birds", Jiddy has left the Midlands behind and has entered the Nothern Reaches: A cold, harsh, mountaineous and sparsely populated land which matches her current situation somewhat as she is injured, has lost her equipment and is quite disoriented due to her the disastrous encounter with the river spirit (she would never admit that though).
